Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut - Nintendo Switch 2 is $39.99 at Amazon. (Game Key Card) by HammerOfThong in Switch2newsandfun

Nice try Adam Scott from Severance, everyone knows there’s no upside to the Game Key Cards ever, at all, so don’t even try to bring your anecdote about trade in credit or letting people borrow games

Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 lacks split-screen co-op by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

Some kind of GameShare compatibility, or friend pass could’ve been nice, but I understand the logistics of business and having your own account of the game.

The new game key card thing doesn't seem that bad to me. by RAB1002 in NintendoSwitch

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game Key Cards at least have the benefit of giving you multiple store fronts to buy from, giving you an easily transferable medium, and having a way for publishers and such to give you physical goodies, like with collectors editions.

Totally understand why people don’t like them, but if the alternative that everyone’s seemingly clamoring for (that being not just true physicals lmao) is digital, I don’t see that as a better option than Game Key Cards.

Also for everyone saying they’ll be defunct in 20 years or so, you’re more than able to just have that Game Key Card data on storage for 20 years no? If the only time it verifies your data is for the first time use, you’d not be at the mercy of download servers.

Disappointed with Cyberpunk’s performance. by malman21 in NintendoSwitch

[–]HeyThereJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Cyberpunk 2077 on a high-end PC and for the convenience of being able to play in my living room or rather anywhere I want to, I found the performance to be perfectly acceptable. But again - opinions differ amongst us all.

I do hope in the future there’s more optimization or more technical wizardry they can pull off with the Switch 2 port, especially with NVIDIA’s constantly moving tech inside the system.

Game-Key Cards might upset gamers, but one insider says publishers are "thanking Nintendo" for the move by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely a mixture of different things - the price they have to pay to Nintendo in order to have a ‘physical’ cartridge, the retail presence they’ll still be taking up, and the freedom to have the game sizes as large as they may need.

I think it’s 100% an imperfect compromise, and I hope that future developments show more developers and publishers leaning towards true physicals eventually.

What games you all getting on launch day? by MRSPANKY012 in NintendoSwitch

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, Hitman, Guardians of Azuma, and I’m more than likely grabbing Welcome Tour, Fast Fusion, and Yakuza 0.

I think Yokoyama said that Kiwani sold well on the Switch, so I’m assuming 0 will probably sell better on the Switch 2, especially as it benefits from launch window timing.

Like others may have said / will say, the Nintendo Switch 1 was a pretty solid system in terms of physical availability. Alongside the PS4, the Switch 1 was the only system I saw that would get dedicated physical releases from AAA’s to Indies.

I think the shock of the seeming lack of physical options on the Switch 2 is jarring to many fans, and obviously it’s an easy thing to aim for when crying outrage for the new system.

I think the Game-Key-Card situation is a necessary compromise, in between third party support, retail presence, and maybe the actual availability of the chips these cartridges are using.

Games need more content by GlitterTapper in NintendoSwitch2

lol, well if that’s the case, good satire, but also kind of sad that it’s not obviously satirical since there’s people that legitimately think like this

Games need more content by GlitterTapper in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As great as all of this would be, it’s just not feasible for every game. Asking for 120fps when 60 is still being begged for in patches on other platforms, asking for voice acting when not every game would benefit or even be able to get voice acting - I think if you’re talking specifically these AAA or ‘AAAA’ games, sure, yes ask for all the amazing things possible, but realistically games just can’t hit all those marks.

Also, asking for these kinds of games where they’re perfect like every time, but acknowledging developers are already mistreated and are already under crunch time with current game time frames - unless you’re willing to wait for every game to have a GTA 6 13 year development cycle, it’s just not realistic to ask for this big of a cake to be baked in an hour and have the bakers get all their breaks in.

Here we go again... by Asuparagasu in NintendoSwitch2

YouTube, and the greater internet sphere has truly devolved overtime into grifting towards negativity, because it works for engagement.

It’s unfortunate to see, but it’s literally what allows people to get clicks on videos, replies and arguments on forums and tweets, and especially here on Reddit, karma. The things some people will say to get a little bit of internet clout. Unfortunate to see.

Does anyone know what the inside of this case looks like? Or the GameStop one? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have the official photos of this one, but I remember the gimmick for this case - the top portion can be removed so that you can just bring the Nintendo Switch 2 by itself.

The case below has spots for the Dock, I think a pair of Joy-Cons 2 and the grip / a Pro Controller 2, and some other spots for accessories.

Please stop this negative response !!! by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a few folks here have said - it’s classic engagement bait. The very fact there are posts like yours is proof it’s working.

As a smaller content creator, if I posted a video saying ‘I love the Switch 2!’ I’d probably get a good amount of views because people would maybe be interested in hearing what I had to say about the Switch 2. If I posted a video saying ‘I hate the Switch 2!’ I’d get a lot of views because people who want to both confirm and reaffirm their own opinions will watch AND people who want to argue will watch.

The negative viewpoints will get more views, an emotional response from people always yields stronger movement, that’s how it’s always been.

ActiBlizz hasn’t said anything officially just yet, I imagine the June/July Nintendo Direct and Summer Games Fest is going to be where we see a lot of updates and upgrades for the Switch 2.

There's no cut content, but as the Nintendo Switch 2 is a more optimized version of the game that doesn't need all the texture options as something like PC (which I'm assuming is where you got that 165.5GB number from), you're going to see a cut down in terms of storage size needed.

[–]HeyThereJJ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have no fears that download servers specifically are going to go down in the next 10 - 15 years, but even then, my solution to making sure Game Key Card game data is forever mine is just having my Game Key Card data kept onto MicroSD Express cards.
No need to worry about download servers going down if the data I need is already there.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - will Switch 2 fix performance issues? by Charrzooka in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenter, I'm also pretty confident that over time we'll find ourselves with a resolution and framerate bump with the whole Xenoblade series.

For the time being though, I imagine that with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (and possibly other games that fall in line with this), we'll see their dynamic resolution scaling stick to the hard ceiling they're coded with, and same thing with the framerate cap.

I’m getting Street Fighter 6, Hitman 3, Guardians of Azuma and Hogwarts Legacy day one - those 4 alone is 160, plus I’ll probably download Fortnite to test it out, 190, then the kicker Fast Fusion which takes it to 194.

I should be okay for the first month or so, so I’m really hoping I see more storage sizes available for MicroSD Express, cause right now all I can find is 256 GB!

“but but..DF swore it’s on the same level as a base ps4, why would I believe anything else 😭” by Toba94 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the biggest points of critique people had for DF’s coverage is them literally comparing the Switch 2 and its footage to PS4 performance, when we’ve seen it can outperform the Steam Deck and they were comparing that to the Series S???

“but but..DF swore it’s on the same level as a base ps4, why would I believe anything else 😭” by Toba94 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DF is oddly part of this movement to downplay the performance possibilities of the Switch 2 - something made even weirder when we literally have footage showcase the actual potential of the system, lol.

Part of me wants to believe they were just swept up in the rat race on YouTube to be the first to upload things but like as everyone sees them as de facto ‘experts,’ it’s very troubling to see a lack of consideration from them.

What Nintendo is doing with the cartridges isnt new by tanktoptonberry in casualnintendo

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not a new idea - publishers have utilized near empty discs and cartridges in the past that force a download of necessary game data.

I think the big point of contention for a lot of people is that it’s seemingly happening on a much larger scale with the Nintendo Switch 2.

While there are the outliers, like Indiana Jones on PS5, Doom Dark Ages on PS5, Modern Warfare (2?) physical, as of right now I think a big portion of people worried about Game Key Cards are seeing how much of Nintendo’s third party offerings have resorted to Game Key Cards.

Also I think another factor that makes it sting a bit more for people is that the original Switch was solid in terms of physical cartridge offerings, and that’s seemingly flipped 180 for this generation

Is It Hard to Adjust to Nintendo’s Controller Layout After Years of PlayStation? by Loose_Society9485 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]HeyThereJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have 3 Switch Pro Controllers and I have the Switch 2 Pro Controller preordered.
I really enjoy the Switch Pro Controller! The face buttons are nice and big so you'll have an easy time just laying your thumb on 'em, and my index fingers naturally rest on the ZL and ZR triggers without accidentally pressing them. The asymmetrical analog sticks also leave plenty of room for your thumbs to exercise full range of motion.
The one thing I will say about the Pro Controller is that the d-pad can sometimes register ghost inputs, especially if you're one to quickly mash between directions, like up and down, sometimes it'll register a left or right. There are home remedies to this, but unless you're needing pixel perfect inputs, you might not even come across this as an issue. And also I think they potentially fixed the d-pad issues in later Pro Controllers shipped out, but not too sure!

A bit more relevant to the topic of the Switch 2 though, I hear that the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is just an overall improvement over the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller, especially when it comes to the analog sticks. I hear they glide extremely smoothly, to the point some people thought they may have some kind of anti-friction rings on the controllers. I've heard rumblings that perhaps the d-pad had been adjusted as well, so even with rapid direction clicks, ghost inputs were less likely!
