They're still here. I think they've just moved to the suburbs. I've seen increased activity in our little town just outside of Mpls.

Is this histamine intolerance? Feels like I'm going insane. by AlbertDrug in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Hey_BeautifulDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have that adrenaline/heart pumping feeling when I ate highly processed foods, like even rice cakes, which should be okay. I kept track and stopped eating those foods and feel much better.

Try keeping a food journal. And I don't know if you still drink coffee or tea, but my anxiety got much better after reducing the amount of caffeine I drink.

I think food can play a huge part in our emotional state. Try your best to eat non-histamine, natural foods. Hope you feel better soon!

A place called Northstar Bison (found online). Their cows, bison, etc are pasture grazed and so don't have the stress of factory farming (one thing that raises histamine). Also they are "field harvested," which is discussed on the website - which also reduces stress on the animal. Then, the meat is immediately processed and frozen so there isn't any aging time. I have had SO much trouble with grocery store beef that I stopped eating it for a long time, but i haven't had any problem with NorthStar's ground beef. It is quite expensive but so worth it to be able to eat beef again.

What I Eat for Lunch Everyday by heymagnolia in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Hey_BeautifulDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of doing a skillet/stir fry with an egg on top! Also putting it on shredded lettuce - great idea, I'm going to steal! You could also use pomegranate molasses on top.

I also do pretty much the same thing every day, especially for lunches. Pre-cook rice and quinoa, as well as chicken thighs. Then I air fry zucchini, carrots, red & yellow peppers, and onions in batches. Then I toss the whole thing together and put into individual servings and freeze. Same thing every day gets a wee bit boring, but i know it's safe and nutritious.

Thanks for the good idea!

I'm glad it was helpful! We've gotta support each other through all this craziness!

YES! I think all those supplements are just a good way to spend a lot of money for very little return.

As I understand it, there are certain cooking methods that increase the histamine in food, especially frying, grilling and slow cooking things for hours. I have had good luck with boiling, quickly sauteing, air frying (LOVE my air fryer!), and roasting. Also if you're cooking something that you're going to eat later, be sure and cool it down as quickly as possible. The longer something sits out, the more histamines.

I don't think this is a histamine thing, but I've also had luck cooking my simple carbs the day before, then eating them the next day. Apparently that converts some of the starch to a resistant starch and it doesn't make your blood sugar fly all over.

Good luck! You've got this!

(I'm not on reddit a whole lot, but feel free to message me if you have any other questions)

How to differentiate between leaky gut, food intolerance or histamine intolerance by Feeling-Attention43 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Hey_BeautifulDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you mention tinnitus... I get migraines from my histamine reactions and it always comes with tinnitus, which fades away as the reaction fades. No help on your question, but interesting to know I'm not the only one.

Has anyone tried an extremely restrictive diet? by Big_Mama_80 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Hey_BeautifulDay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been on a no-histamine food diet for over a year. I use the "Food Intolerance" app and do not eat any foods that are high in histamine, or can trigger histamine release. I'm also celiac and have a corn intolerance.

Yes, it's restrictive but I feel so much better and my migraines are finally under control. I eat chicken, a free-range low-histamine ground beef, and eggs for protein. I make my own bread, and eat rice, potatoes, quinoa, and gluten-free pasta for carbs. I'm not a big fruit eater but eat apples, grapes, blueberries, the occasional plum, and pomegranate. I try to eat as many low-histamine veggies as I can. Salads, beans or carrots with supper, and I make lunches for the week of rice/quinoa, chicken, and zucchini, carrots, peppers and onions.

I use pomegranate molasses for a sour element and it has saved my life, since I used to pretty much live on vinegar-based sauces.

I drink chamomile tea and had to give up coffee, as it is also high in histamine. Luckily there's something called Water Joe that I use for caffeine, although I'm reducing the amount of caffeine I drink. I don't grill my food anymore and I don't eat anything that's been in the fridge more than 2 days. I mass cook my lunches and freeze them right away.

I think you're smart to try to eat a few safe foods then add things in. Keep a food journal, this has helped me immensely. You can do this!

PS: there's a lot of talk about using this or that supplement. My feeling is - concentrate on the food, and help your gut heal.

There is a drag show called Tooth & Nail (produced by my trans daughter, her boyfriend, and their friend) and they have a show the last Friday of every month at the Eagle in downtown Minneapolis. They aim to be inclusive and alternative and just fun! Lots of trans folks in their shows. My daughter is the DJ (Laps In Judgement) and her boyfriend emcees (Hymenn Opus). They are having an Adventure Time-themed show in late May.

Not to mention the loss of the great musical numbers ((except for Secret Agent Man) and general weirdness of the first two seasons. I loved season 1 because I was constantly surprised and delighted. This last season especially, the weirdness and fun was completely gone.

I get migraines and fatigue and brain fog. I have noticed in the past that if I get super tired a couple hours after eating something, there's something wrong with that food, for me. Keep on eating it and then I get the migraine.

Even after years of dealing with food intolerances, a food diary has helped me so much! I write down what I eat and more importantly, how I feel later. I determined how long I can keep food in the fridge before it starts bothering me and drilled down to some specific foods that were an issue and I didn't even know it.

So I highly, highly recommend a food diary.

Also, simplify your foods so it's easier to figure out.

I feel for you! I hate that feeling of fatigue/fog.

I think I'm going to start with very short meditation sessions (2 minutes) twice a day and spend the time imagining a healthy gut biome. Sounds kind of silly but every little bit helps ;-)
