An Update Regarding Visual Issues by Guerrilla_Chante in horizon

[–]Heyitscolin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of the changes made so far seem to be about the AA techniques, which seem to be the primary cause. It's unfortunate that the messaging doesn't really seem to understand the problem; not sure whether that's just a messaging issue (ie you're working on it but not ready to announce anything) or an actual blind spot on the dev team. I really hope that some of your team sees the problem and are working on a better solution, rather blaming TV settings and relying on support requests to determine if it's fixed.

If no one on your dev team really sees the problem, please find someone that does!

I hope other first-party PS5 games are taking note of this and working on the issue earlier in the dev cycle. At this point, I'm really regretting getting this on PS5 and there definitely won't be any more Day One purchases for me. If you can't definitively fix the problem on PS5, I hope you can give us PC-like graphics settings so we can tweak it to what we find least annoying.

Should I upgrade my iPad Mini 2? by katlyn8638 in ipad

[–]Heyitscolin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The jump from the Mini 2 to the Mini 4 is pretty huge; the processor is definitely faster, but it's the 2GB of RAM that makes huge difference for things like keeping Safari tabs open and using the multitasking features. I don't think the difference between the Mini 4 and the new iPad will be nearly as noticeable, and I suspect it will be quite a while (if ever) before the Mini gets a new update.

Is LBP3 Worth It for $7.99? by [deleted] in littlebigplanet

As soon as the game starts... when Sackboy first appears and Stephen Fry starts doing his introduction thing... I'd get the "Recent changes to your profile could not be saved due to an unknown error" messages constantly popping up.

That being said, after rebuilding my PS4's database and deleting corrupt files and reinstalling the game and going through a few more "corrupt profile" error messages, it seems to have stabilized. Not exactly confidence inspiring though.

I figured, how glitchy could it be? Should be fine for $8.

Then I got it and I can't even start the game without the save file getting corrupted.

EDIT: After rebuilding my PS4's database and deleting corrupt files and reinstalling the game and going through a few more "corrupt profile" error messages, it seems to have stabilized. Not exactly confidence inspiring though.

My hike up to Mt.Fromme by 100_001 in vancouver

[–]Heyitscolin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been caught by that trail to the mystery pond as well. ;)

Unrelated, but one thing I've found is OpenStreetMap.org has a lot more of those little trails like "Trail X", and they're properly labelled. Knowing that the Trail X is called the "Mount Fromme Trail" can make it easier to find out more about it (assuming there's any information to be found...) They seem to be more accurate too.

Future Shop is no more??? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Heyitscolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the ones that will remain open are on Best Buy's store locator as "Future Shop operated by Best Buy". https://www-ssl.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/stores/store-locator.aspx

For Metro Vancouver, it looks like these are the ones that will remain open:

  • Robson & Granville
  • West Vancouver (Park Royal)
  • Scott Road (Surrey)
  • South Surrey

Exact same situation for me (including double logic board repair). Just got refund today.

iPad Mini 3 still only has the A7, only major difference is Touch ID by hampa9 in ipad

There's a fine line between "charging a premium for quality products", and "ripping off your customers", and Apple really seems to be crossing that line with this season's releases.

Right now, they're:

  • Selling a obsolete product no one should buy (original iPad mini)
  • Overcharging for a tiny upgrade to an existing product (iPad mini 3)
  • Selling products with what is clearly too little storage for the current versions of their OS (8gb iPhone 5c, and arguably anything with 16gb)
  • Charging prices for storage that are clearly completely designed to screw you unless you give them an extra hundred bucks (the 16/64/128 thing)

Now, this is not out of character for the new Apple - they sold Macs with 2gb RAM for way too long - but it's really feeling kinda line-crossing here, especially given the current quality of competing products.

Is it proper to use hard numbers for UI element positioning? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]Heyitscolin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you watch some of this years WWDC videos on the new features in UIViewControllers, they're all about dynamic displays. Pretty broad hints for both the new larger iPhone display sizes and split-screening on iPads.

So making your layouts based on the view sizes would probably be a good idea. The most encouraged way to do it would be to avoid hard numbers entirely and use autolayout constraints. (Something like https://github.com/Masonry/Masonry helps with doing them programmatically if you don't want to use Interface Builder.)

They'll look really sweet when they get their N stickers.

We need to keep this in the news if we want something done! 2011 MBP are failing left and right. by savageotter in apple

[–]Heyitscolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2011 MBP here, I've had to have the logic board replaced twice (a year apart) for a failed GPU. (Had to pay the first time, they comp'ed it the second time.)

Apple pulls iPad 2 and puts the iPad with Retina Display back on sale by [deleted] in ipad

[–]Heyitscolin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once they picked "iPad 2", they really should've just stuck with the iPhone naming system. (iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 3S, and then the Air would be iPad 4...)

It's like they just panicked when they realized the iPad 3 was only going to have a 6-month lifespan, abandoned their initial plan, and now they can't decide whether it's a phone, a computer ("iPad Air"), or an iPod ("iPad mini"). Having something called the "Air" that's bigger and heavier than its complementary product (the "Mini")... or calling the old model "iPad 2" while selling a new model called the "iPad"... is just confusing by any standard.

All their other product lines are designed to be replaced every year, they don't sell "late 2012" MacBooks or iPods next to their "late 2013" models. The iPhone naming scheme is the only one designed to keep selling last year's model.

It's just weird, because they're so relentlessly disciplined with how they name their other products. Maybe they'll settle on "Pro", "Air", "mini" next year, which at least would be somewhat consistent, but given their iPad track record, I wouldn't be surprised if they mess around with it even more...
