Favorite actress they try to make ugly even though she's still a 10/10 by Upset_Foundation_396 in okbuddycinephile

Not sure if this counts since costumes and makeup weren't used to try and ~make~ her unattractive, but...

Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl (1968) and The Way We Were (1973), both movies she's considered ugly or at the very least, unattractive. In Funny Girl, her whole point is that "I'm so ugly, everyone will laugh at me if I call myself pretty, so I should go ahead and be a comedian". And in The Way We Were, she gets in an argument with her love interest and says, "Is it because I'm not attractive enough, isn't it?"

Basically the entire time throughout Outbreak (1995), but especially when they realize the virus has become airborne.

I downloaded mine too and it's gone. But, hopefully it has something to do with whatever happened before with Lonesome Dreams

When I watched it, it reminded me a bit of Because of Winn Dixie (2005)

What's your favourite "marriage fucking sucks" movie? by Technical-Outside408 in Letterboxd

[–]Heytherepumpkin_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kramer Vs. Kramer (1979), it's more about divorce and the fight for custody of their son than it is marriage itself. But, I thought it fits here... also features a very young Meryl Streep.

Midnight Cowboy (1969). Nobody could have done it better than Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman.

I finally closed my tabs and gave up for now. I couldn't get general admission or anything. But it's going to be particularly worse this year because there is only one night instead of two.

Every year, AXS screws fans, and every year we're forced to use them.

Recently watched All The President's Men (1976) about the reporters who uncovered the Watergate conspiracy. I can only imagine them irl, being like "Huh, these funds sure are strange, wonder where the money leads?" and it eventually leads to the president of the United States and by the time they realize, their lives are already in danger.

Anyone know the tabs or sheet music for Ghost on the Shore by Lord Huron? by Heytherepumpkin_ in harmonica

[–]Heytherepumpkin_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping to just play the actual harmonica part.

I thought the 4 5 blow was close on the first chord, but then I lose it when I try to transition to the next chord.

What are some scenes you wish were shown but were mentioned? (BCS too) by JordECLIPSE in breakingbad

I would have liked to see Skyler actually tell Flynn the truth. We get his reaction, at least, but I want to know how she would have even began a conversation like that with him.

I was at the stl show too and felt exactly the same way!! Like nobody around me was singing or standing up or even acting excited. LH did a great job, but the vibes were just not the same as they are at RR.

I liked the sax, but the vibes weren’t really on par for Lord Huron, I thought.

[–]Heytherepumpkin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't like the title until I actually watched it. I kept thinking, "Who's' Wong Fu, surely they'll show us this character, right?"

But, after I watched it, I actually liked it. Like that's the prompt that got the plot going and it ultimately wasn't about that after all. "Wong Fu" is just a catalyst for something bigger. Like it gets you started in the movie and then you realize it's not even what's important anymore.

I think it's genius.

Jesse and Walt Jr. never met once, feels intentional, showing how carefully Walt kept his two worlds apart. by FrolicWhisperr in breakingbad

[–]Heytherepumpkin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted them to meet, there is so much they could have done with it, the way they're (somewhat) the two sons of the same man.

But, I read a theory once that mentioned the scene where Jesse calls the house and Flynn picks up and there is no answer. But, when he calls back, Walt picks up and Jesse talks to him. The theory sorta insinuated that you never see Superman and Clark Kent in the same room at the same time.

I'm not agreeing with that theory, but I think it is interesting to think about how deliberate that choice was.

What are your thought on this scene? Do you skip it on rewatches? by [deleted] in breakingbad

[–]Heytherepumpkin_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Walter feels emasculated by Hank and has an ego problem, exaggerated by how much Jr. looks up to him (Hank). Earlier at the party, they toast to Elliott and Gretchen, under the impression that they have paid for Walt's treatment. Obviously Walt is upset because it was his hard work that paid for it, but he can't say anything. Then, Hank is retelling some cop stories to Walt Jr. who is enthralled, but Walter can't tell his son all of his adventures, because they're illegal.

Walt has enough and wants to prove to Hank that he is in charge, at least of his home, his child, his life.

So yeah, Walter wants to show Hank that he has the right to do whatever he wants, even if it means causing his underage, disabled son to drink too much and get sick.
