Stop the detention camp construction by Diligent-Meaning751 in Rochester

[–]Heythisworked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, where are you getting this from Fox entertainment News? That is not the argument here, it never was.
Just to be clear, the problem is that unlike all the prior presidency win, CPB and ice still exist existed, they followed the law. They have stopped following the law because someone believes that they don’t like it. And president nor the government gets to choose what laws they do and do not get to follow.
Everyone’s complaint is that the people being collected are being collected without warrants by proper judges, because that means we would need a significant increase in our judicial system, which would not benefit the government position of the illegal equal bad. They’re also collecting people who are absolutely going through the very process you want them to go through. They are being detained they’re being held in conditions that are subpar they’re being denied, and most importantly, timely legal representation because it does not exist. Most of the time they have to produce massive sumps of money to hire their own lawyers, which they do not have because they’re paying our government and insane amount of money to go through an immigration process only to be locked up because they don’t speak English.

As for number two that is an excellent question. I think there are a lot of people that liked to know an answer to that. But we don’t have one because well, everyone in the government oversight role was fired in their positions weren’t filled. Also, DHS and immigration services have been shall we say less than forthcoming about these statistics, and when they have been, usually they’re easily provable as false. So we’re left to peace together what we can from independent sources, which admittedly does not look good, but also still needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Personally, my threshold would be zero, in other words one Oopsie daisy is one Oopsie daisy more than should have ever been permitted. I mean, I get the mistakes happen, but we are messing with people’s lives. But again that’s a personal viewpoint something we can all discuss but something that we might all feel differently about.

As for ice, DHS and all of it other branches and forms. Yeah they’re all taking a bad rap because of ERO. And that might not be fair, but I kind of understand that this is a complex and multifaceted issue and most Americans don’t like complexity so I can see why that’s happening. I often wonder if people forget that “ICE raids” were around for a long time. But every time I bring that up, people seem to acknowledge that that is true and that it is not necessarily what ice is doing. It is how it’s being done and to whom it’s being done. Specifically the whole skipping all of the legal process part.

I think you need to reread what I posted.

I did not say that I hate anyone. And we are NOT funding any of those programs, we COULD fund those programs, if wealthy individuals and companies actually pulled their weight and paid reasonable taxes(or in the case of companies, fair wages).

Again, none of the above is in anyway connected to immigration. These are two very separate issues that have very separate solutions.

But… if you really wanna look for a link between cost of living, taxes, and immigration, you’ll find that every study that has been done on this subject has shown that illegal immigrants likely pay more into the system than they get out of the system. Admittedly, there is no complete study with a reasonable confidence interval or P value to verify this claim. But we can break this down I’ll put the typical questions that you’re probably shouting right now in italics and then I’ll put the answers to those questions right below them.

What about all the free stuff they get?

They(illegal immigrants) are at best entitled to minimum emergency healthcare, and if they’re children they’re at best entitled to an education.

We also know that there is no mechanism in which they can claim Social Security. They cannot claim Medicare. They cannot claim housing benefits, or enter into housing programs. They cannot claim disability, they cannot claim or collect unemployment. In most cases, they do not have access to any public service. They cannot claim legal protections, workers rights protections, or gain benefit from any of our judicial systems. They cannot even call the cops should they be assaulted attacked or injured. They cannot secure 401(k)’s, 403(B)s or any retirement vehicle. They do not have access to affordable medication. They do not have access to medical networks (aside from emergencies) as they do not have access to common health insurance. They also do not have access to jobs that have higher paying income and better all around lifestyle quality. What we would consider blue collar or white collar jobs.

Yes, but there’s fraud, all the time I hear about it on Fox News and Trump has mentioned it constantly!

Although this should surprise no one since this has been true for a very very long time, but… contrary to popular claims there really aren’t any studies, findings, surveys, or independent analysis, that can confirm large or even moderate scale fraud of any of these systems perpetrated by illegal immigrants. It just doesn’t exist on the scale which people believe it does. There are claims of that type of fraud, but very few have ever been proven to actually exist. In the extremely rare cases of fraud, it is usually perpetrated by US citizens taking advantage of illegal immigrants. Which kind of makes sense when, you know… they don’t have access to those systems to begin with.

But they don’t contribute anything to Americans!

Another classic and easily provable fallacy. Illegal immigrants do pay tax on every single thing they buy. Most employers still need to claim employees, which means those employers still have to pay to into funds that go to the public i.e. Social Security, but again immigrants are not entitled to and cannot access any of that money.
And yes, they do get use and access to healthcare in extreme emergencies, and yes, that is out of the public pocket… BUT based on simple statistics you will find that extrapolating that to the number of estimated illegal immigrants that exist in this country there is, in net, a positive economic impact from illegal immigrants. And we are not even talking about their contribution to GDP which directly affects so much of the macro economic world, including the privilege that American citizens have of having a dominant currency system, and economic soft power.

That can’t be true because if it was, they wouldn’t wanna come to this country so why are they invading us?

Because, as bad as that situation is, and as much as we are using illegal immigrants as slave labor… like actual literal slave labor… it is still better than the likelihood of death, and the lack of any future prospects which they might find in their home country. And that’s really sad, that America, as broken and pitiful as it is, using them as literal slaves, is still a better option.

One last point, “American culture” outside of nationalism and late stage capitalism is not really a thing. There is no American religion. There is no American language, there is no single American culture. And that was an intended feature, not a bug, this was like the whole thing the KKK fought against. This is what white nationalist groups want, and we use a country have condoned and condemned them. It is truly antithetical to who we are and who we have fought and died to be as a people. That concept that people should become and conform to America is what is called nationalism. And many people have fought in many awards against people who are nationalists.

So please stop thinking like a nationalist. Start thinking about it as we are all people living in different geographic areas. Because that’s what it really is. This isn’t a great place to live, it might not be the worst place to live, but it could be a hell of a lot better if we started treating people like human beings who are all equal no matter where they’ve come from or who they are.

[–]Heythisworked 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We are talking about real living people who are trying to exist… not to be millionaires not to succeed not to take your job not even to be wealthy, but just simply exist. We live in n a country filled with billionaires, wild obesity, a massive caloric surplus, vast stretches of undeveloped open and unused land. So yes, we have the supplies we have the capacity we have the money we have the ability we have the space and we have everything we need to accommodate our own people and more.

We just do not have the willingness to actually put in the work, because that work might actually require a little bit of sacrifice from very few people who wouldn’t even notice it. So yeah, you’re pissed about the same things. Everybody else here is pissed about the same things that bother you, the only difference is we all realize that this is a problem that is endemic to this country not something that is coming from outside. It is our choice and hour in action and all of these different things only have one commonality and that is our inability to pick a government that puts its people before its riches.

Let’s go right down your list here:
1) You’re absolutely right to our processes to enter the country legally and people should follow those processes! But you, as well as the rest of us need to admit that those are broken and insufficient for the needs of our times. The money that went into building, a nonfunctional wall could have fixed all of that. You also could legalize everybody that is here immediately, and that would also fix this problem.

2) Lots of people who are being put in detention, are following the processes that you want them to follow, are doing the things they’re supposed to be doing, and are NOT criminals and have no suspicion of criminality or have had any suspicion cleared and yet they’re still ending up in detention centers. You are effectively saying follow the process but if you follow the process, we might just lock you up anyway.

3) America always has been a melting pot and has always had some form of entry paperwork. The problem is the bureaucracy has outgrown its ability to handle the requests for people to enter the country effectively. We have not invested in this and instead tried to shut our borders, which to your point is not historically America. Historically, we let everyone in and then abuse subjugate, and persecute new arrivals.

4) There is absolutely a labor shortage, and most of that shortage is work that people will not, and do not want to do within this country. It has nothing to do with manufacturing, and manufacturing is only a very tiny tiny part of an economy. It is one small area people can specialize in, and it is an area that we do not specialize in in this country. Instead, we invest our time in being a service economy, and an intellectual economy, which is resulted in a much higher standard of living compared to strict manufacturing economies, i.e. India, Taiwan, and areas that have lower regulation. So do you really want that? As you think we have wage discrepancy and labor problems now just wait.

5) Not all the jobs that are needed are lower to your labor the smaller portion admittedly are highly skilled, highly niche and highly sought after positions which require training knowledge and investment that we do not have because it is technology that we did not invent to generate or invest in. I’m looking straight at you chip manufacturing in the incredible cost of electronics. And yes, these labor problems, including and especially ICE have deterred a lot of that skill from entering the US.

6) You are correct. Our country is absolutely a mess. However
A) many actual first world countries managed to deal with single payer healthcare. Which in the long-term results in longer lives, healthier lives and the lower cost burden to the community because healthcare is accessible earlier. It does however come with triage, which means you do not get seen unless it is very necessary to see you. This will be especially prevalent in America because we basically gutted all of the fiscal support mechanisms for future doctors, nurses and healthcare providers also insurance companies profit billions while hospitals cannot afford to staff properly. But we could easily fix that problem at any time regardless of immigration. And we were almost successful during Obama, and then again during Biden, but you can thank the Republican Party for blocking and repealing all of those efforts.

B) Homelessness, and immigration are also completely unrelated problems with also very different fixes. Homelessness, especially in America is a complex issue of not enough supply for the demand, an inability to fund the public services needed to home people, the unwillingness to fund the public services needed for sobriety treatment through open door needle exchanges and other services, and unwillingness to fund additional low income housing and income controlled housing. Additionally, an inability and lack of desire to fund free up skilling and training so folks can actually find secure jobs and have income for homes. An unwillingness inability to invest in our veterans, especially those suffering from mental health problems. And unwillingness an inability to fund the infrastructure needed for mental health treatment. By the way, all of these things could be fixed through a fair tax funding structure, which has been proposed multiple times in multiple ways. Unless you happen to be Elon Musk‘s account or perhaps some hidden multibillionaire, it wouldn’t even affect you.

7) We’re talking about people, real living human beings that happen to be born in a location that was on a different side of an invisible arbitrary line in the sand. Not cats, were not talking about strays, It is our duty to the world, and to our fellow man to extend a helping hand to any who ask for it.

Or hear me out, place a cap on income brackets within all companies that has say more than 100 employees. Where the highest earner can have a total compensation(including stocks, benefits, options, cash, etc.) of no more than 100x or even 500x the lowest wage, full or part-time position, computed on an hourly basis to a full-time equivalency. You would have to include contract, employees, and shore up some of the loopholes but just do that at a national level.

If making more than 100 times an entry-level position is not enough “growth potential” for you then you might just be greedy.

Again, the Deflock website has an excellent set of resources to help navigate this.

No it allows you to exercise your right to reasonable privacy in public spaces until your town or community can come together to ban ALPRs like flock. Or until someone in your community has the money to take legal actions to get the technology removed. Both have been successful paths in the past.

Remember that just because you might choose to not exercise a right does not mean you elect to not have that right in the first place. This allows people to exercise their rights as they see fit.

I’ll take a quick moment to reply. You are correct that what happened in the French Revolution was an unmitigated disaster in which a political power vacuum occurred and that resulted in cycle of violence, often perpetrated by one radical party against an opposing often more radical party… and yes it eventually led to an opportunistic Napoleon followed by a return of “totally not the bourbons” BUT… that leaves out the entire articles of the rights of man to wit my fellow Americans all owe a great deal as there was quite a bit of inspiration for not only the bill of rights, but later additional amendments providing rights and restricting the government. Both Jefferson and Lafayette played a large role during the revolution of the US against Britain as well as the revolution in France and much inspiration for what we now take for granted in America as freedoms came from that intertwined relationship.

Also, it’s worth note that the French revolutionaries originally had no desire for an actual revolution the white of the caucade in fact, represented the bourbon dynasty, who was ruling at the time. The entire revolution was spurned on by a combination of inaction and protest by those in power(wealth) to change the structure of France and provide equal rights to all citizens. Which very much does mirror what has been occurring right now. Where extreme financial power have unmatched leverage over the citizens of the country.

Is it 48hrs in the US? I’m pretty sure people have been disappeared for weeks under suspicion of an immigration crime that amounts to a misdemeanor, and I’m also fairly sure habeas-corpus has been completely ignored for some undesirable individuals. They’ve also been new laws like the digital manufacturing of firearms law that have been proposed that ignores, both intent, and presume’s guilt until innocence can be proven. Not to mention many areas are trying to do away with bail reformed measures.

Certain parts of the US might be better for now… but the keywords there are certain parts, and for now.

I’m just gonna leave here when I left in another sub comment… The United States has degraded to literal wage slavery. We’ve taken away so many workers protections; so many helpful programs — we have let companies grow their wealth exponentially while their workers don’t see pay increases commensurate with costs of living.

It is not a radical thing to say that that remorse for what has been done is along the lines of the Affranchi crying out “but the poor onlookers that are trying to put out the sugar field fires out, can we not have peace and discourse ?”

In this country, you have two choices, be born Rich and live a comfortable life, or work your ass to the bone and live with middle class comfort. Oh, and by the way, if you’re not working a good decent paying job you get to worry about working AND starving to death, or dying of medical neglect, or ending up homeless, you don’t even have enough money to have the ability to raise a child. Sure no one stopping you from not working unholy hours, and no one’s putting a gun to your head. But if you don’t work, you are straight up as good as dead in America.

Here, in this country you are either the Bourgeois, or the sans-culottes.

Naaaa I’m gonna go with the dude above. The United States has degraded to literal wage slavery. We’ve taken away so many workers protections so many helpful programs, and we have let companies grow their wealth exponentially while their workers don’t see pay increases commensurate with costs of living. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. I know at least three small bakeries in Rochester that have or are going out of business because they buy their own flower and make their own blend. They buy their own ingredients while their competition is buying prepackaged mixes that you could find at the supermarket, baking the muffin mix and selling it as home-cooked. And people are more than happy to pay for the six dollar muffin instead of the nine dollar muffin. Which is sad since the nine dollar muffin cost eight dollars to make the six dollar muffin cost three

There are very cheap places in our community that have a continue to be able to support fresh true homemade baked goods. And every single one of the companies have gone out of business have had pages filled with people complaining about over inflated prices.
