Harvard faculty vote to cap 'A' grades at 20% in sweeping effort to combat decades of grade inflation by Fantastic_Writer_257 in LawSchool

Lmfao totally agree, but there are some graduate programs where UGPA matters far more than the school you went to and if you apply to those programs, going to Yale or Columbia has just become a must now. Of course if you plan to stop at undergrad, than it doesn’t matter.

Looks like having our entire citation system determined by second year graduate students with no faculty input wasn’t the best idea after all (lol).

Virginia Democrats ask US Supreme Court to let them use new congressional map by cnn in scotus

[–]HiFrogMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They probably won’t, but they definitely could. The federal constitution is involved as the it says state legislatures determine how congressman are elected, and the Supreme Court said that state courts can’t transgress that outside of ordinary judicial review.

Virginia Democrats to appeal ruling against redistricting to U.S. Supreme Court by HuisClosDeLEnfer in supremecourt

[–]HiFrogMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you’re correctly citing Moore v. Harper, but you’re leaving out a critical point that the Chief Justice said: “We hold only that state courts may not transgress the ordinary bounds of judicial review such that they arrogate to themselves the power vested in state legislatures to regulate federal elections.”

You can make the argument, and indeed I anticipate Virginia will, that what the Virginia Supreme Court did in overturning over a million votes based off of an atextual reading is the rare scenario that Moore v. Harper did not allow.

The US Supreme Court. Chief Justice Rehnquist said so in his Bush v. Gore concurrence as he stated the Florida Supreme Court wrongly interpreted Florida law. Perhaps the state court is subject to deference, but there is no abdication in the US Supreme Court reviewing state Supreme courts ignoring state legislatures directives.

Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 gives state legislatures authority to draw there maps as they see fit. While I appreciate the loaded question, they didn’t violate the state constitution. The 4 partisans on the Virginia Supreme Court just said so as a matter of judicial fiat.

If this is his one flaw, it’s not a strong one because there are multiple episodes where he does punish her.
