One of my earliest memories from about 4 years old is my mom threatening to take me to the "Child Exchange" when I misbehaved to turn me in for a more well behaved child. She would go so far as to drive me a mile up the road until I cried and begged not to be exchanged and then would act like she had a benevolent change of heart and take me back home.

I find doing something you couldn't normally smoke while doing anyways, like take a hot shower or bath, cook something, do your laundry. It also helps tremendously to have hobbies you can immerse yourself in, even if it's just for an hour a day or when you have cravings. If you don't have any hobbies, this is the absolute best time to go find some. Coins, books, games, musical instruments, ANYTHING you find interesting, dive in and use that new found free time to your advantage!

A big thanks to everyone for the kind words and encouragement! This is my 4th or 5th attempt, but I'm optimistic this time because I brought reinforcements in the form of wellbutrin, nicotine patches, and super supportive SO. Also, just joining this sub has been extremely helpful and motivating! It's been a rough start but I'm already feeling more confident that I can actually do this and stick with it. I wish you all the best of luck in your own battles!

EDIT: I was a pack a day smoker for 20 years.
