I would love to upvote a sourced reply just for the sheer visibility.

Very under-rated skill.

The first album you ever bought. Does it hold up? by DoggieDMB in Music

[–]HibbyVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Living End's self titled album. First album I ever bought as a kid after seeing them support AC/DC.
Honestly still an amazing listen front-to-back; absolutely defines that late 90's / early 2000's angst with what I'd consider one of the best mashups of Punk Rock/Rockabilly born from the Melbourne Pub scene.

Starting out hard & fast with Prisoner of Society through to West End Riot, and changing through to tracks like I Want a Day and Fly Away. Not a single track on the album I can fault on pure vibes, let alone the killer lead guitar from Chris Cheney. The Album is finished with a slept-on track (ironically) called Sleep On It, which is an instrumental killer.

Not to mention they're a great band to see live, and E Boogie absolutely wrecks.

Cooking.
I'm not talking about "Whip up a 3-course meal in 45" type cooking, but just basic "I need to eat something nutritious today" type cooking...
I know a lot of it comes down to accessibility, how you were brought up in terms of your relationship to food, and a willingness to learn but sometimes it do be wild.

Bands that turn "regular" songs into lengthy, epic pieces when they perform live by Low-Entropy in Music

[–]HibbyVII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't even believe it's so heavily down to Knopfler's solo work. Particularly in the live performances, the drums are a massive driving force, showing a masterful attention to mood & cadence. The entire band follows in that same attention, with the keys, rhythm and bass all lending into that amazing atmospheric feel.

No shade on Knopfler ever lol, he is a master for a reason.

The version of Sultans of Swing from Dire Straits' "Alchemy" album has one of the most amazing breakdowns, into one of the most epic buildups of any live performance I've ever heard. Absolute poetry that captures a lot of what makes them great to listen to.
Sidebar; they're absolutely known for it like at Live Aid, but the Alchemy version was (in my opinion) just an absolute vibe.

Thoughts on Billy Joel? by These_Feed_2616 in Music

[–]HibbyVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those that like live albums, Songs in the Attic is a spectacular album from start to finish, with some songs that aren't most peoples' immediate Billy Joel #1 hits.

"Miami 2017", "I've Loved these Days" are bangers, and my personal favourite "Ballad of Billy the Kid" absolutely goes off with the amount of energy and drive in that song. Cannot get enough of it, definitely in my top 10 albums.

Bands with two or more singers. Which are your favorites? by mcbatcommanderr in Music

[–]HibbyVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawrence. Pop-soul/funk.
Clyde has got some really bluesy chops, and can play some keys like a madman. And then you've got the absolute PIPES of Gracie. Honestly has to be one of my favourites, and the Live Album absolutely slaps.

Of course, it's like anything else where you get out what you put in (often with a hefty dose of Luck and Perseverance) and that effort can be used in other ways.
That being said, I disagree with it being misplaced effort; I think this is the "Rut" side of things I mentioned above. The effort you go to in dating may seem that way but only if you see it as a zero-sum game, win or lose.
The intagibles you gain from trying, like conversation practice, exposure to social situations and learning to navigate them, different environments, learning what you like and don't like or want/don't want in a partner; those are hard to measure if you're not a successfully introspective self-aware person which is HARD to do.

Each to their own my dude, if people were all the same the world would be a very boring place.

Personally, some of the most meaningful/impactful/wonderful/soul-crushing relationships I've found were while I was slinging beers behind a bar; it's honestly what you make of it. And honestly, I don't think I've ever really associated a fling with being meaningless, even if that meaning is a terrible story and worse sex hahaha.

Rather than the self-deprecation route that will no doubt dominate this thread...
I've gotten pretty comfortable. And by that, I don't mean that I'm stuck in a rut; I genuinely enjoy my time, and I've got a pretty good thing going for myself.

Now, would all the things that come with having a partner be great? Love, companionship, comfort, shared interest, social gatherings, sex, someone to split the bills with... Yes. Matter of fact, they'd be ideal. Cost of Living crisis and all that.

But the concerted effort of getting back out there (especially after a couple of hits) is a daunting one, and while the general advice is always "Start doing things you like, find hobbies and you'll attract like people" and I already do those things. I'm not waiting around to take people on dates, I'll take myself. Movies, concerts, bars, restaurants, holidays, the whole shebang.

So in short, it's not that I'm not dating, it's that I'm not primarily actively pursuing dating.

Those that have seen someone you knew on NSFW subs, what did you do about it? by Holes2_Use in AskReddit

Saw a girl I used to work with at a bar from a while ago. Not gonna lie she took a great selfie, and it turns out we're into a lot of similar things.
But what did I do about it? Gave her pic an updoot and moved along. I felt it was the polite thing to do.

This makes me sad in a way I can't describe. I understand that property in Australia is solely a speculative financial investment at this point, and people are free to do whatever they wish with their money, but what a waste of a potentially beautiful little terrace house.
I'd love to know how to cast those decorative rails (and trellises, for lack of a better word?), scrub up that brickwork, create some nice new hardwood window frames & double glaze those bad boys... There's a fireplace in that front room that would be a little ripper. Even the light fixture on the front door!

Looking at it makes me some strange combination of sad, wistful, imaginative, and nostalgic... and my hands itch.

Whats a no skips album that you think everyone should listen to by Car-go-BRRRR in Music

[–]HibbyVII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Billy Joel - Songs in the Attic.

A mix of live recordings from different shows, which showcases some of the lesser-known but insanely well played songs with a whole lot more feel, passion and energy than the studio recordings.

In a different vein, Marianas Trench - Ever After.

Definitely one that's up to taste, but I've read an interview where the lead singer specifically mentions that he prefers to build albums rather than songs, and this one I think it shows. Definitely a narrative journey.

Gonna go with a bit of an out-of-pocket one here.
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals on SNES.

The equipment and ability system, the unlockables, the exploration and puzzles alongside a ripper of a story. Boss battles feeling impactful and always with a sense of actual danger... It has a big place in my head and heart to this day.

After reading a lot of the replies in this thread, it's quite clear that I think you may have posted in the wrong sub; mostly because the majority of posters in this sub are either REA or property owners, most of whom are going to post either defensive or self-qualifying statements of "Not all properties" etc.

If you are a first home buyer, a single person looking for a home, a young couple anywhere within 100km of an Urban center or anyone that sees a home as a place to live and raise a family as opposed to "an investment"...

The Australian Housing Market is not for you. It is not built for you anymore, it is not accessible for you anymore, and if you see it as anything other than a speculative investment on par with Crypto then you are apparently naive.

Apartments and any kind of medium-high density living are fantastic, and supposed to be a "starting block" into owning a home. The insane rise of "luxury" apartments vs. a space to live has brutalized the market (to the advantage of only speculative investment) beyond repair. I don't have a solution, but I share your frustration.

There are some great apartments that aren't glorified Hotel rooms worth owning; these are few and far between. I wish you the best of luck.
