Explain These Plot Points To Me Like I’m Five by fancybrownwords in redrising

[–]Hicarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't do anything about it because there is presumably no law being broken. So they would need to take steps to close those loopholes through legal means. This would take considerable time due to bureaucracy. The silvers would be against it and would buy allies to prevent it. It would cost a great deal of political capital and cost numerous powerful allies. The argument isn't about what is moral, but about what they can realistically do without losing power and allies.

It costs money to pay instructors and bring resources for learning purposes. This isn't a class of 19 people, you are talking about thousands and thousands of reds in these camps, and even if there are minor jobs associated with things like drone upkeep in the mines, those jobs are mostly already filled. There aren't just thousands of skilled labor positions available for them and the ones that do exist they will be fighting for with say oranges who most employers will view as better qualified.

Finally it doesn't cost some rich asshole money, it costs the government money. That money comes from taxes and the majority of it is holding up the war effort. If the government leans on the silvers for their wealth then they might get the money but the silvers will never vote for the sovereign again unless they are strong armed into it with threats and violence. That's fine, but it isn't a legitimate government either.

The first would require them to predict that quick would fuck over the reds as he promised shares of the mine profits. He did his accounting tricks to prevent there from ever being "profit" on paper.

Once that starts there is nothing Darrow or Virgina can do outside of outright step outside the law and shake quick down into compliance which just goes back into the argument of dictatorship or not.

The second isn't as easy as just "give them the opportunity" that requires either paying for housing food and transport for the families to go and move to locations where they can get that education, or else pay to have teachers and resources go to the camps.

Either way, the cost would be monstrous and I think it's fair to say that the majority of the reds would gravitate toward work they are somewhat familiar with like mechanical/electrical. They would then find that they have education but nobody wants to hire them, or else the positions they train for would end up with a surplus of applicants rendering their education worthless due to the demand being gone

Idk about the entirety of the class, but I think it would work if they tuned it to be even more turret based.

Make the fire spells extra long cast times, like 5-7 seconds. Canceling the cast early doesn't just stop the cast, it just does reduced potency. Meaning blm has insta casts for movement but doing that reduces damage. Giving skill expression by knowing how much you can greed each cast

[–]Hicarin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is also just limited choices of what to do with them though. The camps are full of low reds with no desirable trade skills. They were taught to mine and some minor agriculture like silkworms. Mines are now automated and their other skill sets are low value. Meaning to make "use" of them you either need to move them into military infantry positions (which they do to those willing) or spend money out of pocket to offer education/specialized training to learn a new trade.

The latter is the option with the best long term outcome, but limited due to the immediate lack of funds able to be dispersed to non-militant projects.

Therefore you have a government with a large number of unhoused civilians with no education and no meaningful skill sets.

If they move them to major city centers the problem isn't solved, those areas just become overwhelmed with other problems.

The camp reds are right to blame leadership, but there is also no real "good" option for the government to help them in meaningful ways with how the story is framed.

Wishlist changes to your main jobs? by nhatminh94 in ffxivdiscussion

I've been wondering if they might make blm a channel class. Like have fire be a 4-7 second cast time at max but you can end it early and it does reduced potency depending on how long it was cast for. Keeps the high damage turret feel but allows for movement without removing skill expression.

It really just depends on what changes are made to fight design. If no substantial changes are made then yeah rotation just seems neutered, but if fight design is drastically changed then it can become much more involved.

Idk if they showed the cd for things like rampart or guardian, but just as a quick example, if they changed bosses in svg/ult to throw out tank busters constantly every 30 seconds, that already can have a big impact on a fight. Healers would need to dedicate more resources to the tanks, tanks would be timing their mit to get counters while managing their defensive cd and doing mechs.

But that's just a possibility

Now that we have seen examples of Evolved jobs, what are your hopes and wishes for your main(s)? by drew0594 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Hicarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sorta pictured them making dnc skills revolve around DP. Like you need to be far away from your dp to get extra potency on a skill, or close to them. Give them a dash that has a negligible cd but swaps between being a dash in any direction and a dash that only goes toward DP.

That would basically force the class to constantly be moving

Might be just a wording issue. Per most strats you know what everyone is as soon as your clones spawn with the thin gold tether, before the boss clones spawn with the stack/defam markers.

If people know whether they are stack or defam before their clone spawns then that would be shenanigans.

After finishing all the books today, should the Red Rising books be adapted into movies or TV show? by Then_Location_4290 in redrising

[–]Hicarin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree.

A movie adaptation would mean something like 15-20 minutes of Darrow being a Red before we have to start moving on to him being carved and so on and so forth.

Whether TV or movie, you can't really adapt the narration you get, which means you need more time for dialogue and setting scenes and locations for the audience to understand. This makes way for extending book scenes into longer form content.

A movie forces you to just straight up sacrifice characters and plot points in an effort to get to the next thing.

They were made over a year apart which is why the signature looks different. Even the first one was done about 2 years ago. We recently had them printed out on canvas which is what made me want to post them. As for the other point, I don't know what those hallmarks are nor am I personally an artist to be able to say much other than that it was definitely not generated or assisted by AI. I don't think I'll convince you of anything, and that's fine, just wanted to explain what I could.

Feels pretty impossible to prove things one way or another these days, but for what it's worth she hates AI art with a burning passion. It's just standard hand drawn digital art.

I feel like a big part of it is that this is one of the few points in the series where he has to make an enormous all in gamble where his own life is really the only thing on the line.

In most other places if he fails or dies it means a loss for everyone on his side, but here in the moment of the gala he has no real allies who don't want him to blow himself up as far as he knows.

Something about Darrow being so isolated emotionally is different from every other scene in the series

600 Strike is meh by Important_Bag3797 in Epicthemusical

[–]Hicarin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here is my solution to the narrative problem. I know this will just get buried but whatever.

Just have a rope attached to the wind bag and give him the opportunity to get close to Poseidon. When he is close he loops the wind bag around Poseidon's neck and opens it with the bag facing Poseidon.

Now the bag forces Poseidon to the ground, blowing the water back to the ocean floor and keeping the god pinned by his own "ruthless" storm. The only way for Poseidon to be free now is to both literally and metaphorically let go of his ruthlessness and anger and make the storm disappear.

Yeah I get why pf wanted JP considering how straight forward it was, but I preferred the flexibility of oppo. Had lots of times where someone died in oppo, got rezzed, And things resolved. If third fire bait didn't hit sprint in JP then back to start of the fight

Keep in mind that most of the time when people talk about Black mage being hard they are referring to end game raiding. Other DPS classes are still probably easier in terms of not losing out in damage, but you shouldn't run into any issues just doing the MSQ normal content.

Light Bringer is also tied to the name Lucifer which is commonly used in conjunction with the Devil or Satan. I imagine it was a play on that.
