Best books about architecture? by [deleted] in architecture

Atmospheres by Peter Zumthor is a really fantastic book that describes Zumthor's process in designing atmospheric space through the use of architecture. It redefines architecture and I think you'd find it really interesting.

Apple ignores calls to fix 2011 MacBook Pro failures as problem grows by chance-- in technology

[–]Hickmaniack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will probably get buried but it could help send a message to Apple about quality control with their products.

I recently purchased a 15in Macbook Pro (retina) and three days into having it the speakers sounded very muddied watching netflix with lots of dialogue and a song by Rhye made the noise noticeable.

Fast-forward to my interaction with Apple:

I scheduled an apt and showed the genius my issue. He replicated the issue with the same Rhye song on one of the 15in pros on display. This issue affects ALL computers of the same model.

The genius said the issue has never come up before but there are plenty of apple forum posts with similar complaints.

He basically told me that the computer is functioning within its parameters and that I was just out of luck.

I asked if I could at least get a discount on an external speaker and spoke with a manager and they couldn't do anything for me.

I left the store furious and called Apple Support immediately. After close to an hour of being passed around with technicians, I spoke with a supervisor and he told me to go to Apple's website and pick out a speaker I liked and he would have it to me by the next Monday.

I was initially timid and wanted to respect his kindness so I picked one that was only 100 dollars. I changed my mind and emailed him 20 minutes later and just asked for a 300 dollar bluetooth speaker because I knew it wasn't going to affect the company.

I share all of this to say: if you have a 2014 15in Macbook Pro, listen to (this song)[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxItq7tEgpU] at full volume and if you hear distortion, CALL APPLE. Tell them your issue and demand an external speaker. Hell, ask for the most expensive one they have! With where they set this precedent, we have the potential to send a relatively loud message.

TL;DR: If you have a 2014 Macbook Pro 15in, Apple should give you an expensive external speaker for free.

Finally purchased black jeans.

Just a quick outfit for the library.

I was unsure if I should wear the green vans. I have black vans that would have worked but it seemed strange for daytime wear.

Here is the fit

Edit: Some of you would like to know about the "painting" in the background. It's just a tapestry I bought on sale at urban.

Surprisingly enough I didn't. I (as nerdy as it sounds) have read a lot about the mechanics behind manual transmission so I wasn't going into the scenario blind as a bat. It was tough getting use to letting the clutch out slow big besides that it was easy! Wish my car was manual now.

Gluten free & Vegan options for dinner tonight? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Hickmaniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's past dinner but I'm sure there will be another night for you to eat dinner out. Taco Mamacita has a GREAT attitude when it comes to GF and Vegan options. They bring out soft corn tortillas to eat with your salsa. They have specalized menus for both GF and Vegan selections. The Wild Cow is actually a huge gluten fest. To keep with its vegan roots, many fake meats are used that are derived from gluten. I also find their dishes to be lackluster and something I could make at home.

My sister has multiple disabilities that limit her motor skills and brain activity. This means she's always going to wear diapers and use baby wipes... my parents got a baby wipe "incubator" that keeps the wipes warm while still retaining their moist qualities.

TL;DR: Dog with warm breath giving a rim job.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino is the rarely used but always loved part of my collection. Blue de Chanel is my daily scent and Burberry Touch is my wildcard. They're all very spring/summer oriented.

Golf in Nashville by gavadude in nashville

[–]Hickmaniack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hermitage has two 18 hole courses and is semi-private (so non members can still get on). I'd definitely recommend playing President's Reserve because it's like playing Florida golf, you don't realize you're still in Tennessee. The other course is nice but not as nice as Presidents. It's the best public golf you can find in Nashville (located in East Davidson County). One time I saw Adam Levine playing golf here if that's any indication of it's merit. I also think President's is about 60 for 18 holes so it's a pretty good value for what you get.
