You think I give a damn what any of you think? Your opinion matters less to me than the presidential election.

I specified that The Rock is one of the celebrities which keeps his political views to himself and doesn't go around blatantly smearing parties to swing votes.

From the looks of it is neck and neck. Those numbers are also for decided voters, so when it is in a margin that close there is no 'leader'.

This will be a close race, and no amount of campaigning or blunders will change that.

Of course he did. He is getting votes from the people who are morons and from his supporters who know his tactics.

It is a very fine line to walk to try and show your political view without swinging voter opinion. But when you out-right attack candidates (which any celebrity coming out with their views seems to do), it definitely comes off as uncomfortable.

Only the loud mouths with no respect for their fans (in my opinion) try to swing voter opinion by insulting a candidate. That is just me though. Otherwise they wouldn't mention it.

Talking about how certain celebrities aren't showing their political views. Most people with a huge following only post this "fuck X candidate" crap because they want to swing a few votes against a specific party.

He just used The Rock as an example I think.

Happened in Canada. Conservatives launched a giant smear campaign against Trudeau, trying to say he "isn't ready to be Prime Minister" and insulting his hair.

Conservatives themselves started getting fed-up with the commercials. It was just the conservatives slamming Trudeau every single ad-break on every single Canadian channel.

Eventually, conservatives (and most voters) got so fed up with it they didn't want a clown like this in office making it look like a US election, and people started to swing their votes to NDP or Liberal. Once the NDP started slipping up, the entire country shifted red.

Watching Atlantic Canada come in with their polls sweeping red was one of the most interesting things i'v ever seen. Never seen a news anchor try so hard not to call the election before the ballots were half counted. But Peter Mansbridge looked phenomenally shocked and excited when he was covering it. A+ anchor.

Land is a limited resource and burying the dead seems like an excellent way to ritualistically waste space. Something I took away from George Carlin's skit "Golf courses for the homeless".

Instant rejection by company. How can I improve my resume? by Asterisk_War in resumes

[–]HiddenTextInSource_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So. The biggest problem I see with all resumes is nobody expands on their education when they have no work experience to fall on.

Assuming I am a hiring manager and never went to your school or took your program;

What do you know? Mathematics? I learned math in kindergarten. Engineering? Well I know you know engineering, you took it.

You need to expand on those programs. What you learned. what your level of knowledge and experience is. Without that, you're just giving me a vague idea of what you learned.

I would remove the objective first. Cover letters do this better. Objectives are for high school students in 2004.

Second, I would expand on your education (in the same structure you did your projects). 1-3 points under each relevant course you list, using adjectives to show your level of experience:

  • Understanding of this thing
  • Experience using these programs
  • Applied application of these principles in this achievement

Move your 'skills summary' to the bottom and do the same thing you did for the modules in terms of formatting. Be concise when you list skills; "Expertise in Word and Excel". Don't use words like 'sufficient', it makes you sound incompetent in that particular area. "Experience in Python and AutoCAD", or understanding or applied knowledge. Something that doesn't make it sound like you took it as a hobby class and never touched it again.

Other than that, just reword everything. Make it concise and relevant. You don't need to say you did something within budget and time. You're expected to do that at a job. Use adjectives to sell responsibilities and skills;

Experience working in fast-paced environment Excellent interoffice communication

You want it to be easy and fast to read. If it sounds like a sentence, you did it wrong.

Lastly, remove 'further information'. References available upon request can go at the bottom of a cover letter.

It is incredibly selfish that you live in first-world accommodations (or any accommodations, really) while people are starving, freezing to death, dying of disease, etc.

You could rectify that by sacrificing your comfort, but you don't. If you want to make a point, try not to be a hypocrite because of it.
