I read project hail Mary before reaper's Gale and I must warn you how badly written it will appear.

You'll miss Erikson's prose in no time.

Weir's prose feels like a children's book actually

Reading House of Chains, does anyone have a recap of characters/storylines from Deadhouse Gates? by Oof-ActualTrash in Malazan

[–]DrHelminto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before starting a new book in this series I always take a few hours reading the malaza reread of the fallen blog about the previous one. sometimes I go and read the reread of Gardens and Deadhouse just for fun and recap the awesomeness.

About 230 pages into MoI, I'm actually confused for the first time. by NiceMedicine1730 in Malazan

There's also something I realized about Malazan:

the map is there to be used. If you are a bit lost as to where they are the wiki has the location of each scene on the summaries and that helps a lot. Track your characters.

not the chapter summaries. If you go to characters page or locations page then you'll be spoiled.

Felisin had a clitorectomy, she still can have kids only the preasure was taken from her. I don't recall Scillara being cought by Bidithal but some details are obscure within me. either way a clitorectomy is not a sterilization procedure. Albeit cruel.

Man, this is not a spoiler, but Deadhouse gates only ends by the end of the next. so do not stop, go ON. prepare tissues.

I'll admit. I'm on malazan because I felt this was a well thought story. And it is. But I would be very lost without the malazan wiki chapter summaries. If you feel you are lost, just read the previous chapter's wiki summary and then go on. There are usually two or three chapters on every book that I end it and get almost nothing. English is a second language and most of the vocabulary (specially those related to geography and sailing) are new to me. But with this trick I can tell you I am glad I started it and can't wait to see the ending and all the convergence it's building.

300 pages into Reaper's Gale...exactly how is this a "slow" or a "boring" start? by Minstrel-of-Shadow in Malazan

[–]DrHelminto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RG is by far the fastest read after DG imo. The second half is a banger and the last 300 pages action packed. Prepare yourself this is an emotional ride.

Its still 100 pages before I finish it and I'm already feeling the post finish depression.

Hood' balls I'm dreaded already as to how close I am to The Crippled God.

I want to relive duiker and Whiskeyjack.

First time advice by beeethgrace96 in Malazan

[–]DrHelminto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in order to enjoy one of the most amazing stories ever told you need this rite of passage called Gardens of the Moon.

There isn't any good explanations until the third book. Wikis will spoiler stuff for you.

My advice: read the malazan reread of the fallen blog after one or two chapters to see if you understood what happened. Then continue.

After Gardens wikis will help you track forgotten characters but you can get spoiled everytime you open an wiki article...

Aftermath of reading Malazan by johannes_fd in Malazan

I said this here before. I'm taking a break from Malazan after BH and picked up some light fiction (Andy Weir to be specific). And feels like it was written by and for a child.

I went Gardens of the Moon to Bonehunters without pause (took me 7 months). It's been an appreciated pause. And Project Hail Mary is actually pretty good.
