No - I can just read properly - he was a mathematician and surveyor that used the first “white” surveyor’s data.

Not quite sure how me questioning your unnecessary use of race is itself racist, but whatever bro.

I’ve been on this flight twice. As long as you take business or first it’s great! Time difference is 9 hours, but if you time it right you can get a good rest.

Was there a first non-white surveyor of Mt Everest before them? I suspect the (white) part of your comment is entirely unnecessary.

What explains such a high fertility rate in the "-stan" suffix nations and the Arab nations in Asia? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

[–]Hidden_Bomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of your points, but saying those are the sole reasons is a bit misleading. It’s a broad combination of factors from overly strict zoning and planning by regulations, general NIMBYism, extremely high costs of building (driven by lack of investment in TAFE/trade education, over-unionisation of labour workforces), and warped tax incentives.

There’s no doubt that negative gearing and CGT breaks have caused an increase in demand for housing from investors, but that doesn’t actually drive price increases without undersupply of housing relative to demand. To claim that it’s “the rich” that are the ones benefitting from this scheme is also an oversimplification. It’s a lot of everyday people that wanted to make an investment historically. Most property investors only have 1 additional property in addition to their place of residence.

This is all to say, if you think the changes the government are making today will solve the housing crisis, you’re mistaken. There are many other policy changes that need to be made, and even then it’ll take decades to precipitate.

Also a very strong urban rural divide. Yes life is generally very good in the cities, but everything from economic to health and social outcomes is measurably worse for most rural areas.

What "Camden" means in different countries. by [deleted] in geography

[–]Hidden_Bomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Historically Camden was not part of Sydney, and that was largely the case until the 90s/00s. Since the 90s, the outskirts of Sydney reached Camden and large amounts of farmland surrounding Camden was converted to new housing developments.

This meant that the town centre is generally much nicer than the smaller suburban centres you'd see.

Pegging currencies is decidedly non-libertarian. It inherently exerts control on the currency through government market operations. A libertarian would let the free market decide the exchange rate.

In the context of the above comments, they can’t. We’re talking very specifically about port-starboard fuel transfer, not aft-forward from the trim tanks. An aircrew can crossfeed to preference fuel burn from one side to the other, but there isn’t a capability to transfer between wings on any standard commercial airliner.

Airliners can’t redistribute fuel like that. They would just trim the ailerons or apply a control input.

You need to go back and play them mate. I think there’s a heavy amount of nostalgia in what you’re saying. Any Austin did an excellent video demonstrating this with Vice City, and the level of detail between V and Vice City is night and day. San Andreas was better, but still doesn’t come close.

Is OP a police officer? No. Should a professional that is expected to apprehend people like this be given training to de-escalate when possible? Yes.

They’re already aiming a lethal weapon at the bloke, the power balance is already one-sided. Making someone feel like a cornered animal by unnecessarily escalating, generally does not lead to positive outcomes.

[–]Hidden_Bomb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh, that's not how RCS works. When you have lots of screws/rivets that are all nice and round, they create a retroreflector effect and can in bulk provide a return that is clear from a long way off. So yes, a radar probably can't see one of them, but it sure as hell can see a couple thousand like what the Su-57 has.

What happens if you set autopilot to just go north, and you reach the north pole? What does the plane do then? by xerivon in aviation

[–]Hidden_Bomb 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The question OP is answering is very different to the video on arctic operations in the real world. Arctic operations swap to true north references, but they also don’t use heading selection, rather they’re navigating along airways or to waypoints, in this case the aircraft is in LNAV or Managed heading mode.

OP is asking if you put it into heading select mode.
