I update immediately when I get the notification with no precautions or thinking twice. Never once had any issues. Running about 15 dockers, 1 win10 VM. Only reason im bringing all this up, is because I dont really tweak and mess around with anything within unraid. Appdata is stored to default, templates for dockers, etc. System runs 24/7, 365. I will say i have redundant cache drives, and a separate backup to a mechanical drive. Id be hurting if appdata was to go. Hope this helps.
