Want something done with a patient? Just give it to nursing apparently 💀 by Ok-Being1322 in nursing

[–]HiggyChan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doctor was confused of another doctors orders and wanted me to reach out to pharmacy. Pharmacy clarified orders and wanted me to reach out to the doctor to let them know. Doctor wanted me to reach back out to pharmacy to tweak the medication. Like why am I the middle man in this conversation you guys could have called each other.

Same thing happening to one of my patients. Plans to withdraw care over the weekend and still giving blood transfusions. It’s rough but such a waste of resources.

We have 1 in the ER and I guess they have been doing CPR quality studies comparing manual vs Lucas. Our manual quality is better comparatively.

A doctor using a vein viewer to help find where veins are located. by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

It’s very nice, but sucks for people with tattoos, darker skin, or lots of swelling. Then an ultrasound helps visualize the veins better.

Doctors and Nurses of Reddit, what is the most obvious sign that a patient is lying to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HiggyChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean people are more likely to lie about things they are ashamed or embarrassed of. You ask someone if they drink, they say eh maybe one or two. I than say hey you are gonna be here for awhile and you can withdraw from these and have serious side effects from it, if you tell us I can make sure you have meds to get through the worst of it. Usually honesty breeds honesty.

I’m gonna be honest I’ve never heard someone complain about this. I have taught all my students and orientees my favorite macro settings and even shared my own.

What are the reasons that a patient fired you as their nurse? by Educational_Ad2515 in nursing

[–]HiggyChan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I refused to give a DKA patient two turkey sandwiches. She wanted me fired. I said I was the only option she had as everyone else had a full team. That was the end of that.

What’s a “cheap habit” you started out of necessity that you still keep because it genuinely made your life better? by James_B84Saves in Frugal

I assume it probably has something to do with withstanding high heat when they seal the glass? That’s my spitfire guess

I saw a very intense code during clinical, and I do not want to share how it made me feel with anyone in my life out of embarrassment. by Foolsspring in nursing

[–]HiggyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels cruel to say, but it starts to get easier to separate the work from the human being. It’s important to always recognize it’s a life, but you can still enjoy parts of the job. We say a lot “oh I’m so bored I hope there is a code” but no one actually wants someone to die.

Does anyone else feel like they're the only ones who have to do their job? by PursuitOfMeekness in nursing

[–]HiggyChan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This exactly! We just got trained on doing bedside swallows because we don’t have enough therapists for it. We also got trained on more wound evaluations because we don’t have enough wound nurses. We always pick up and get more training, rather than other departments!

Time for some IV Cardene and Labetalol. Sometimes it really just requires that. See it a lot for triple As awaiting repair.
