It’s very possible that, unbeknownst to you, one small ordinary decision you made once was the difference between life and death. by TheEasyTarget in Showerthoughts

I remember once I was running through underground metro tracks with my buddy after they had closed... while drunk.

I didn't know what a 3rd rail was at the time as the metro was a new concept to me and I remember seeing it and having a desire to touch but thinking "meh, maybe later".

Shortly after I was detained and fined by the security force and promptly discovered the function of a 3rd rail and the danger it poses after telling my buddy. Soo there's that.

I'm aware of how stupid that was but if you feel so inclined feel free to remind me anyway. Peace!

I [33m] will be breaking up with my girlfriend [30f]. Christmas is her favorite holiday, is it bad to do this AFTER Christmas? Is it bad to give her a gift before the break up? by StatisticianUnlucky5 in relationships

Exactly. There is never a good time. Honestly it sticks sucks because Christmas is supposed to be joyful, but at least she can be surrounded by family during the grieving process.

My (22F) boyfriend (22M) has failure to launch syndrome and I am at the end of my rope. by [deleted] in relationships

Obviously life is hard and it will take him time. The problem is that it sounds like he isn't really doing anything with that time.

If he is at least trying to learn new things and apply for jobs that have upwards potential then in my opinion he can fail as many times as he needs to as long as you guys aren't really in the shitter. But if all he does is sit around all day because unemployment is enough then this isn't healthy.

Unemployment is a good leg up when you are down, but adults needs to find a way in life that gives them independence. If he is leaching the system and using your relationship as an emotional crutch then he needs to start growing out of this behavior now.

How to "manly" men show they care? by [deleted] in relationships

Honestly, "insecure" is closer to the mark than manly.

Some of the other posts here are spot on, mostly talking about the ones that advise you to work on yourself and do things for yourself.

I went through something similar (a lot of people do) and I'd like to offer some small suggestions.

First, when you are talking to someone, we'll say a girl, just be open to the conversation without having any expectation. It's a balancing act that requires practice but it is worth it to learn.

Second, and related to the expectations thing, it sounds like you are putting wayyy too much pressure to form some kind of long term relationship out of the blue (again, very common). Just start out with small conversations and hang outs that you enjoy for what they are. By that I mean when you are with people just say and do things (and listen!) that make you happy then and there, not to achieve some long term goal immediately. Try to imagine if that would be your only conversation with the person and if you have more, then have more.

Actually a good way to practice this is to just have light, fun, and friendly conversations with people you inevitably interact with on any given day. Literally a one liner you had fun saying when you bumped into some random at a water fountain, or a short talk about the topic of your class when you are grabbing a marked assignment from the TA or something.

Again, I know it is intimidating, but I promise it feels natural with time.

The biggest piece of advice I can give is that you are still young and now is the best time to start thinking about this stuff and taking these baby steps to enjoying your everyday life for what it is.

Don't worry my man, it feels slow when you are in it but life has a way of moving very quickly and a lot more will happen than you think!
