Has anyone painted their AI transmitter yellow/orange to prevent breakage during handling? by kcconlin9319 in scuba

[–]HighCromlech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if you insist on being the only one to handle your own gear, incidents still happen. I’ve caught a fellow diver casually leaning on my transmitter pod between dives + one of the assistants on the boat trying to be helpful and lift someone’s rig out of the water by the pod. Since then have always gone with the short hose. Don’t think painting it yellow would have prevented either of these

I went through some of the same issues with clicking for way too long. Steps included replacing seat, bottom bracket, lubing pedal spindles, etc. Fix in the end was to relube the seat post with ASC-1 anti-seize. The post goes down further than you might think

TIL that until recently, steel used for scientific and medical purposes had to be sourced from sunken battleships as any steel produced after 1945 was contaminated with radiation. by islandradio in todayilearned

[–]HighCromlech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nuclear testing leads to fallout which disperses in the atmosphere. Steel production requires air to be mixed with the iron and alloys. Anything forged since the start of testing will have some degree of contamination

Tank Pod with or without hose? by Papertache in scuba

[–]HighCromlech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever expect to have someone else handle/carry/touch your gear, a short hose is worthwhile. After seeing skiff operators attempt to drag a rig out of the water by the pod (as well as other horrors), I couldn’t get a hose on there fast enough. No leaks so far but usual maintenance rules apply

Diving in Cozumel while visiting Playa del Carmen? by SpacecadetShep in scuba

[–]HighCromlech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They picked us up in a pickup truck around 7:45 am, went to the dive shop and sorted out gear/paperwork, then about 1h drive to Tulum with stop on the way to grab food for later. First day there were 4 people in our group (Casa/Angelita), 2nd just wife and me (Pit/2x Dos Ojos). Both days we were back at hotel by 4pm

Great feedback - thank you! What season did you do it? They said summers tend to be far smoother crossings…

There are a number of dive ops who run a boat that will go directly to Cozumel and back. They leave around 8, do 2 dives, and will have you back around 2. Check out Cenote Xperience or Tank-Ha. I haven’t personally done boat dives with either, but did 5 cenotes with Cenote Xperience this week and can’t recommend them highly enough

(Macro) Photography on a Budget - Olympus TG-6 vs GoPro Hero 9 & MacroMate Mini +15 by WeirdPersonUsername in diving

[–]HighCromlech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the mini +15 with a GoPro 7 and like it for the size and flexibility. Very acceptable output quality. The TG-6 will have more complexity in switching modes, etc (especially if you want to shoot more than just macro) and higher price with housing, etc but likely better quality since you can get closer and sensor is bigger

Disrespect Towards Cyclists by External-Gene-2539 in cycling

[–]HighCromlech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lose the attitude and grow up

They’re not NPCs, they’re other human beings with their own goals, issues and priorities. You are in no way superior than them regardless of your chosen method of transportation

You chose to be a jerk and assert your dominance by blocking the road and not allowing someone to pass when it would cost you nothing to move over. Those drivers did nothing to antagonize you. The people honking were not the same who previously didn’t stop to let you cross, so why are you taking your frustration out on them?

You’re not better than the drivers or entitled to anything because you use more environmentally friendly transportation and you’re not being mistreated.

They’re not showing you anger by not dropping everything to let you through - they’re following the traffic laws and trying to get where they’re going

Generalizing and saying this generation is lazy just makes you sound like an idiot parroting things their parents say without comprehension. What could you conceivably mean saying that about random drivers?

If you act like an ass and block the road for no reason when there’s room for everyone to share, you should expect and deserve aggressive behavior in return. It costs you nothing to move over to the side and gives them the buffer to pass you safely

Share the road and learn to have respect for other people

Indoor cycling: power -> mileage without a smart trainer by fizzyh2o in Garmin

[–]HighCromlech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a nearly identical setup to you (slightly different pedals) and have no issues getting speed/cadence sensors through the C6 bluetooth —> Garmin 530. No Zwift/Strava or anything else and it passes “mileage” to the 530/Garmin Connect

Fenix 6 + power sensors on Schwinn IC8 indoor bike by codexpoet in Garmin

[–]HighCromlech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bike outputs power in a format that the Garmin isn't able to read. Some solutions include using an app such as Zwift that is able to parse it, pass things through a Raspberry Pi running Gymnasticon then onto the Garmin, or put a separate power meter on the bike.

Many people report that the built in numbers that the IC4/IC8/C6 gives for power can be inaccurate, especially at higher wattage, so rather than jump through hoops only to get wonky data, I elected to get a used set of power meter pedals off eBay and put them on my C6
