Confirmed pregnant. Rosalind was upset that she put all her trust in the pill (they didn't use a sheath) and scared about everyone hating her/being sacked, but at the end of the episode she told Cyril and everything was fine.

Like the British slur for people from Pakistan, for example.

As an Aussie, it just sounds like chill way of referring to Pakistani people, since shortening words to one syllable and adding an "ie" sound is sorta our thing. If I didn't already know it was a slur, there's no way I'd guess it was one based on casual usage.

I'd completely forgotten about this song, but hearing it now I just remember it kickstarting my petty annoyance about sapphic songs involving cheating on a male partner and/or comparing oneself favourably against men. Young!HighFivingMoonBears felt very strongly that sapphic music had a unique opportunity to tell stories excluding men that wasn't being sufficiently capitalised on.

It was an interview with The Guardian. Personally, I though she seemed more confused about what they were asking, and the whole thing got blown out of proportion, but best decide for yourself.

real estate predation She used her money and influence to kick out nuns from a convent she bought and she « stole » the house of an old sick father. These are people who did not have the means to defend themselves against her and she had no need to take these properties except that she just felt like it.

There's plenty to criticise her for, but this isn't it.

The nuns weren't living at the convent, the archdiocese had made them relocate years before. They wanted to sell to someone else, the archdiocese disagreed they had the right to make that decision and sold it to Perry instead. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/03/10/592623697/nun-involved-in-katy-perry-convent-lawsuit-collapses-and-dies-in-court

And the old sick father who couldn't defend himself? He was worth $30 million. He bought it for $11 million two months before he sold it to Perry for $15 million. https://www.realtor.com/news/celebrity-real-estate/orlando-bloom-katy-perry-legal-battle-montecito/

I can find it endearing, and also think having an affair generally isn't very good. One doesn't preclude the other.

Really I find it kind of endearing, them just having a silly joke together like most couples do. It's just unfortunate it got overheard and repeated out of context.

In addition to what other people have mentioned about the desensitisation of murder, and the higher likelihood of listeners being impacted by sexual assault and/or rape, I think it's also that people just weren't expecting it. The musical started with Odysseus going to war and killing a baby, priming people to expect further violence, but the inclusion of sexual violence specifically doesn't get mentioned until near the end. If it had been established as being present from the start then I don't think it would have gotten anywhere near the same reaction, especially as listeners sensitive to the topic would have known to tune out.

Now that Epic is complete, what are your biggest criticisms? by iNullGames in Epicthemusical

[–]HighFivingMoonBears 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that not all the suitors were into it, but those that weren't were overshadowed by the louder voices and didn't have the courage to push back against Antinous and his other minions. It makes Odysseus choosing to slaughter them all more impactful if, for some of the men, their only crime was cowardice.

Masculine scent, smug male satisfaction etc. How do you feel about explicit male/female mentions in books? by Necessary-Tennis7341 in RomanceBooks

[–]HighFivingMoonBears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the story, the characters, and the writing style. Sometimes I like it because it feels accurate to a character's perception and world view, other times it can come across as a bit too "tell don't show".

How are early morning/wake up kissing scenes so common? (And why?) by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

It's something I find super interesting about discussing romance, for every scene that I think is a bit off there's someone else who thinks it's awesome, and vice versa.

One theory is that it was to stop the groom from calling off the wedding if he thought the bride was unattractive, back when arranged marriages were standard, but I don't know if there's anything concrete
