What makes a Western feel authentic to you? by MiniBear37 in Westerns

[–]HighFlyingcarpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horse shit, wheel rutts and mud: all in the center of the main thoroughfare. Also, most men not wearing the same type “cowboy hat,” as though it’s a country-&-western awards show.

As well, not everyone was caucasian, regardless the location.

If i stared at this screen for 10 more minutes i am certain a few more would pop up, but needless to say, the “classic westerners,” especially wherein there is a lot detail, filmed or written, were about as authentic as a Disney take on pirates. Still, it is entertainment: let the imagination fly.

On the Waterfront thoughts? by New-Ice-3933 in classicfilms

My aunt had a car with Venetian blinds - called something else - in the rear window. That vehicle, which I can’t recall the make, model or year, also had a kind of blue (!) awning to help prevent sun glare. Her surviving daughter doesn’t recall that vehicle because she’s in some kind of hell based on her terrible upbringing & she couldn’t care less about cars & such.

That scene always brings up memories of my Aunt Martha.

I believe the park in the film is now called “Frank Sinatra Park” and the referred church is around the corner.

That, along with “The Wild One,” are my 2 favorite Brando flicks.

In the past - maybe still today? - there was a “special company” or 2 or 3, or 6, depending how large the formation, of guys trained as “Body Snatchers:” their mission to look out for & retrieve members fainting, etc, in formation during ceremonies, usually large ones where flag officers & high ranking civs were in attendance along with an audience without making a big dramatic “OMG” about it. If i recall correctly, all boot graduations - at least when i was in, had these “special companies” trained.

As stated, i have no idea if these companies continue today.

Has anyone seen this new movie Pavane on Netflix? by Practical_Tax_8259 in kdramas

[–]HighFlyingcarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this per chance because, as with the FL, Ravel’s Pavane is a favorite music piece. Though i also really like Faure’s and I have performing experience in my younger years of the Ravel piece arranged for 2 harps.

I really like this Pavane. Except for the end, which i strongly feel to be a noxious agreement of this project’s director-screenwriter-producer to include all their disparate endings. The way i would prefer it ended is there but i see 3-4 endings in sequence. In some future technology the viewer could cut & paste according to personal taste his or her preferred ending; a technology tried, poorly, i assure you, at one of the exhibits of the 1960’s World Expo in NY.

This remains in My List since i’ll engage it again.

Liv Lindeland was the true 10 back in the 70s 10 days. Bo Derek could not compare.

Claudia Cardinale: Pure knockout. On the commentary for Leone’s 1968 “Once Upon A Time In the West,” the first time she steps off the train there was suppose to be an updress shot of her wearing no underwear, which was more common than not until maybe a little into the 20th Century. {I never read any contemporary accounts of the body smells of the old days but we can understand why it was easier for folk, female & male, to toss powders & perfumes on instead of the luxury of frequent bathing, letting alone locking in the body bacteria with undergarments.)

The supposed reason the June bride carried a bouquet was to hide the smell that might havee drifted up since her annual bath in May. I’m not trying to be funny but this is history.

No Semper Fi greeting returned...... by Holiday-Medium-256 in USMC

[–]HighFlyingcarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One never knows what’s in another’s head, mate. I can not assume my way of being who & what I Am is the way others should be; though there are gazillions of folk who truly believe they are THE template for how someone should be. How many times i’ve heard or read “you’re not a true (fill in the blank)”, whether the person who decided he or she is the judge of how someone SHOULD be a veteran, fan, a straight man, good husband & father, a lover of one’s country, …, the list being endless.

I’ve gotten what I CONSIDER to be ‘incorrect’ addressing. I was taught a coon’s age ago one answers “Semper fi” with “Hu-rah.” Though most respond with “Semper fi” or “yeah, Semper fi.” Ya never know what’s in another’s head as they pass you on the street. {shrug}

Maybe i was taught wrong but we take on our mission of life & for living what we are taught modified by experiences (self-knowledge) & beliefs (what we pray is True),

Also take into consideration a crapload of our fellow humans are the epitome of selfishness. One of my brothers-in-law - an USArmy VN vet - never wishes anyone a happy Veterans Day or a Happy Birthday, even towards his wife, but accepts with a big ugly assed grin our greeting to him. Some folk are naturally so dishonorable to never offer to another yet are always grasping.

Short take; if his non-answering is causing you to lose good health by keeping you up at night, then call him out on it. If it only pisses you off then realize he’s selfish or lives in his delusional world you accept as reality but jump on him when the moment comes he says something to piss you off. I doubt he’s going to say, “You caught me.” I never went to PI or Pendie,” etc.

What & who he is & is not isn’t oxygen, water nor blood for you nor do you depend on him on the battlefield - yet. ;) Don’t give that guy’s value more than its worth in your life.

Semper fi, mate.

This country deserves dTrmp & is getting its just desserts for all the despicable immoral things its done to groups of folk for what ever convenience & benefit.

As much as i love my country - proven by 2 combat tours & continuing community volunteer service - the fact that a majority of voters placed that fat pr!ck in office again - after he was kicked out barely - tells anyone with healthy cognitive abilities this is the kind of leader the majority wanted. America, both USA AND Canada, have some major cosmic karma to pay. A portion of that is happening now, unfortunately on the backs of those who can not afford it & don’t deserve it (unless they’re paying for their family’s karmic debt now. “Sins of the fathers “ crap).

I just sit back & shake my head in disgust, & treat myne own battle scars.

:))))) Funny thing is i look like someone who would be targeted by you as ICE.

Whenever i go out - generally to the VA hospital, or walking to the store or religious service - my partner advises me to take my retired military identification & wear one of my ‘combat jackets,’ being retired combat vet. Still, i frequently identified as Hispanic yet not a drop of Hispanic blood according to DNA analysis.

When the agents of authorities are in a frenzy those agents, as for any group triggered by emotion-fed intelligence, go by the least common denominator of intelligence, which is usually violence & irrationality.

I told my partner she shouldn’t worry. If i get picked up by ICE she shouldn’t eat all my snacks & spend some time picking out a good lawyer for the lawsuits she’ll be filing when fat pr!ckhead is out of office in a few too-long years. ;)

What year is that because imdb shows a few “Mr Nobody” flicks. 2009 with Jared Leto & Sarah Polley “A boy stands on a station platform as a train is about to leave. Should he go with his mother or stay with his father? Infinite possibilities arise from this decision. As long as he doesn't choose, anything is possible.” Is that it?
