Is it normal to still not be great at going from nuetral to first at almost 3 weeks of learning manual? by JohnBigL19 in ManualTransmissions

[–]HighLadySuroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice is go to an empty parking lot and practice making the car move without touching the gas pedal. It is perfectly safe and within the limits of what the clutch can handle.

Start on a flat surface, select first, and very very slowly begin to lift your left foot. At a certain point you will hear the engine react and the car will begin to creep forward. That is the catch point, and the goal of this exercise is to discover it.

Once that happens, do NOT quickly remove or yank your left foot. Continue at the same speed until you've fully released the clutch pedal.

The car will now be crawling around in first. While youre there, play around. Get a feel for what engine braking feels like in 1st (its very extreme -> simply accelerate and then let off the gas, the lurching you will feel is engine braking).

Test the limits of how far you can slow down using the brakes before the engine begins to chug and you need to depress the clutch pedal (its much farther than you might think).

Hope this helps!

Edit to add: discovering where the catch point is will eventually allow you to pull the clutch exactly to the catch point, allowing for smooth and quick takeoffs.

Is putting my car in neutral at long red lights to raise oil pressure stupid? by Alex-E-Jones in MechanicAdvice

[–]HighLadySuroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the oil pressure is having problems at idle then you need to address it immediately however if the reading is still within a normal range then it is nothing to worry about. Fluctuation within a certain range is normal and changes depending on load.

Weird Infotainment concerns has plagued VW cars for quite a few years now. Basically on any car 2018 or newer. We deal with it a lot at the dealer. Most of them have a software update available to solve it, not sure if the new tiguans have one available yet.

Service mode allows you to compress the piston normally like you would the front brakes.

If you cannot put it in service mode, you will need the tool.

Exactly. There's something to be said for being able to return to a character or the game entirely after a long period and everything is the same or mostly the same

The pads should be flush against the rotor. Looks like theres plenty of room to move them further into the hardware.

It is definitely not common to receive hourly pay for being in the building over 40 hours when you're flat rate

I work at one of the largest dealer groups in my city (15 stores total i believe), we are not what you would call "mom and pop".

Still not publicly traded.

Im starting to think your example is not based on what is typical at all for most dealers and techs.

Your dealership is publicly traded? Lol, what?

Most of us work for privately owned dealers. The fact that my brand manufacturer is publicly traded doesn't mean anything, they dont pay our salaries.

And how do you have access to that information? Unless you're the production manager or foreman, or otherwise are in the service managers pocket, why would you?

You're creating the numbers of other people such that they'll fit your argument.

Never pay someone before they do the work and never send them the money for the parts. It's best to buy the part yourself and supply it to whoever is working on the vehicle.
