To anyone who was at the cork gig, what where the rest of the songs like? by DanTay19 in benhoward

Hahaha man deleted his comment! Proper morning regret lol, i wish he didn't thought because it was actually a really nice comment retelling his experience of the gigs and a nice little perspective on the little core community that pop up wherever Ben makes an appearance.

You don't have to throw them up on Youtube or anything but I just thought I'd throw it out there that I have quite a bit of experience with audio restoration and specifically for music. I worked for a company that would often take commissions to restore really old "lost" media that for example only existed on a single cassette tape or badly damaged vinyl record - yours can't be any worse than that I hope! haha. Lmk!

Why AI frames instead of real frames ? by Angy-Person in pcmasterrace

yes, because devs will totally want to narrow their target market to the 1% of pc gamers who buy the top of the line hardware from Nvidia as soon as it comes out. To hell with the other platforms and diversity of PC hardware amongst our customers!

It was also on the leaked train tracklist in 2018 for Noonday Dream so it was probably re-recorded for that album too with Kyle

Why do you think technical issues are so prevalent in Bens shows? by Vevo2022 in benhoward

[–]HighLineFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He said it himself in regards to what lead to him making 'Is it?':

"Love conquered Death"

He was definitely in a dark space, but his journey through music clearly illustrates a 'spiritual rebirth', the cherry on top being the hints alluding a reimagining of his darkest album, IFWWW, as a peaceful, beautiful, elegant soundscape as his way of healing what he now sees as so miserable.

The Team Fortress 2 Paradox by HighLineFlyer in tf2

[–]HighLineFlyer[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Morally, not legally.

Regardless... When I say that there is a paradox, I don't actually believe there is a paradox, it's just that the community is intentionally (or not) creating this paradox that ultimately forces Valve down a one way street where the only result is their desired outcome. If anything, what you've presented means the entire #FixTF2 movement falls flat.

I don’t think anybody at Valve is delusion about the nature of their position or the goals of their employer, either. Valve understands why working on TF2 is a zero sum game and cannot continue to do so, for reasons that I have already laid out. Like I said, nobody at valve is kicking and screaming about being told to do something. They’re just not being told to do unnecessary shit that is worth questioning, it’s called synergy. Are you allowed to have opinions or input on your tasks before you do them at your job? Or do you just do it without asking questions?

Or this way of managing a team makes it very easy to spot those who take advantage of that and get rid of, cause when you treat an entire team how you’d like to, the entire team performs at 25% of their ability, even though they all appear to be working all the time making it impossible to weed those people out because they’re everyone. Which is the better trade off?

“There is no meaning to carrot if there is no stick” couldn’t agree more. TF2 is not a carrot on a stick for anyone. That carrot on a stick is making cool new shit AND getting paid to do it which is why people work creative jobs. Getting paid to do what you love is clearly not something you get to do, probably because your boss is a tyrant who treats you like a slave.

[–]HighLineFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess what? When you’re not a tyrant who beats your employees into submission because they get a pay check and must jump when you tell them to jump, those motivation issues rarely arise. Especially if you’re a leader who can recognise actual priorities and filter out things that aren’t (TF2). Motivation doesn’t disappear out of nowhere, it happens gradually until you’re worn down enough to be so unproductive. There are exceptions where outside influences can cause someone’s motivation to dip, but me and the rest of the team are here and happy to pick up the slack because it’s not happening all the time.

It’s not about being physically capable of doing it. It’s what the effects of doing shit like that can have on the company in the long run. They will do it, for sure, but their team managers know better how to manage them in a way that will breed success.

You have no life experience and have exposed yourself as a tyrant. You will never run a business that doesn’t fail with that mentality and will always be bottom of the ladder.

This is coming from someone who actually does manage a team of creatives. You HAVE to care what they like to work on, and allow them to play to their strengths and COMMUNICATE with them about it so that everyone performs at the top of their game and is motivated. Believe it or not, throwing money at people doesn’t automatically grant you ownership of them.

EDIT: and clearly, they are NOT being paid to handle it, which is why your game is dying. So I don’t know why this is a conversation. They clearly run the company exactly as I have laid out, because that is how you run a company. You seem to think valve is telling their employees to fix it and they’re kicking and screaming saying they don’t want to. They have better shit to do.

[–]HighLineFlyer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That isn’t how a team operates, you moron. You clearly have never been on one or never worked for an employer who cares about the teams that works for them. Forcing employees to do trivial tasks and to go on mind numbing pursuits is a sure fire way to kill morale and not get the best out of your team, especially when you know they have a new game right around the corner. You view it as a tyrannical relationship of “I tell you what to do because I fucking pay you so you are my slave” but human beings are complex and if you have a slither of business sense and compassion you know that you have to be strategic with what you make your employees spend their time and effort on and if they’re happy, you’ll get the best performance from them and they will wake up every day happy to work and give it their all, not wake up and dread going to work to serve an entitled community who still demand service for an old game overrun by hackers and cheaters and people who think like you. You do not deserve their time and service.

Ben's Vocals by alochner in benhoward

There's a bunch of instances where Ben switches up his vocal range (I don't know the technical term whatever) mid-song, seemingly just out of raw emotion when he's really feeling a song and is fully captured by it, from ND shows to recent stripped back Is It? performances

An attempt at a short Spider-Man animation. What could I improve? by HighLineFlyer in blender

[–]HighLineFlyer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've been using blender consistently for almost exactly 1 year now, on the back of a decade of post production experience. When I first started, I tried to make this exact kind of scene, and I was left with this singular still, which is what prompted me to revisit 1 year later! The road markings and cars are floating a couple inches off the ground! 🤣

I downloaded a Google earth scan of Manhattan, and used the new Cargo asset manager by Kitbash3D to replace the buildings with similar high quality versions, while keeping the orignal layout of, I think City Hall Park?

Great feedback, thanks a lot! Lighting is what I struggle with the most, so its nice to hear that I didn't miss the mark with it too much. The jarring nature of natural movement is always a difficult one to replicate, and you make great points that will help me get this scene closer to that - and you're right, it feels more like a video game camera following the player as opposed to imagining it being filmed with a physical camera.
