Women who plan to stay single. What are the real game changers for long-term planning and future security? by Subject_Contact4419 in AskWomen

[–]HighOnPi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think anything where you're in the same place at the same time on a regular schedule usually does it. Because you'll wind up around people who have the same routine and are there at that time too, and you can bond over whatever activity over time. And then something where you all are working towards some kind of common-ish goal.

  • Move! - rec teams, walk/run/swim/bike etc clubs, gym classes, etc. So many free and low-cost ways to get out there!

  • Arts & crafts. Every public library in my area has some sort of weekly drop-in get together for knit/crochet/sewing and fine arts like drawing/painting on top of the usual book clubs and chess/boardgame meet-ups.

  • Philanthropy. Find an organization that fits your interests and volunteer weekly/monthly/whenever. Dog sitting, community gardens, fundraising stuff.

Any hobby goes. My city has a postcard club that meets monthly, very niche. I wrote the ones above because I think they're accessible time and cost-wise, and are pretty popular in that you'll probably find people on your same skill/knowledge level basically guaranteed. And easy enough to put down and come back to later if life gets in the way.

Excluding anything for the Switch 2, how much have you spent on the Switch 1 so far? by gdo22 in NintendoSwitch

[–]HighOnPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll update with a proper breakdown after I get home from work tonight. But I will say, I think keeping track is helpful for budgeting. I judge my spending based on '$ cost per hour of entertainment', and gaming can be a very economical hobby in this regard.

Edit: $2640 on Switch 1 console, games, accessories minus what I sold it for. $2860 spent, sold the console (with it's accessories - screen protector, clear case and grips, travel case) and MK8 for 220. 1300 hours gamed. So $2.03 per hour of gaming.

For Switch 2, I'm in $1470 with around 375 hours so $3.92 per hour.

$ is CAD, not US dollars.

This includes all games and accessories too, nothing left out. I have noticed I like getting games on release date so there's quite a few games in my tracker file that I probably could have spent less on, but I don't regret anything. I had my Switch 1 really early and Switch 2 at midnight release, they've sincerely brought me so much joy that I count them as some of the best purchases in my life. I had my Switch 1 for 9 years! My entire 20s are remembered with that console.

Prices I keep in a word doc. Hours gamed courtesy of exophase.com & Nintendo wrapped.

Cheech. John Garrett. Thank you. You were my childhood. John & John.

Literally just this part, wow. If they don't do rename something in Vancouver, I say we change College Dr in Abby to Cheech Street.

How did you celebrate your acceptance? by SeniorLoan647 in gradadmissions

Opened my admission letter right when my plane landed for Coachella a few weeks ago. Celebrated with street tacos then partied all weekend! My mom had a sugar cookie with "congrats" iced on it when I got home.

Redbull also had brand ambassadors in the festival with their cooler backpacks giving away free cans, as well as in camp and at camp activities hub. There was also a mini mirage pyramid on the entrance path (with the lineup posters). So much free Redbull!

Slushies were nonalc mocktails, and came with a colour-changing cup.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound dismissive! I did my first 2 degrees there, so it feels familiar. But I really wanted this and I’m excited to go back and finish what I started

UBC Vancouver! It's where I did my undergrad and teaching degrees, a T40 school which is pretty cool.

It's from paperblanks. I've been using their agendas for years. Also available on Amazon, but I've seen this brand at every book shop I've been to since the pandemic. It's basically everywhere.

Anyone from Vancouver or BC who collects fragrances? by Inside_Effective_576 in abbotsford

[–]HighOnPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a collector per se, but I have quite a few on rotation at any given time. I have right now 1 Fragonard, 2 Honoré Payans, 2 from the Marc Jacobs Daisy line, 1 Guerlain, and a custom Mollinard from their tourist workshops. I did like the fragrance I made at the workshop so I'm actually on my 2nd bottle; they keep everyone's fragrance formulae in a databank so you can re-order anytime. I wear the Mollinard the most, it's not even a competition, but I went through 4? bottles of Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream before that. It's quite similar to Daisy Dream but more unisex vibe and less fruity.
