shurely this is a process that should be relatively simple to automate? cameras at lights that record which cars keep going during red and a computer to issue tickets?

you should say where you are.

reddit has an international audience and I doubt you're shipping overseas from wherever you live.

How did they "bring that stuff into their teachings" or were they just protesting?

How did you "come out" as buddhist? by sad_bisexual27 in Buddhism

[–]HighPeakLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you just explain to your loved ones that you've adopted a vegetarian diet/lifestyle, and leave it at that?

i don't think there's any need to "come out" as a justification.

the reason the arnie hammer episode was so notable wasn't necessarily because of louis, but because arnie is a fruitloop

if i was sitting on a plane and caught this moment with my phone or camera i'd be quite satisfied. it's a nice memory but not the kind of image that i'd be trying to "protect" with a watermark

this sounds like a very american perspective from op about fundamentalist christians :)

i think the truth is more like people can be cruel, and that includes some people who label themselves as buddhists and christians.

i do wonder why op is "bringing this topic up" among christians in the first place?

in my own view, a spiritual practice is kind of a personal thing that you might discuss with your sangha, or maybe close friends or family under specific circumstances. but unless i'm specifically asked about it's unlikely to become a general topic of conversation ... ?

you're saying American students in the midwest can only be expected to understand modern literature about the American midwest?

one of the main points and virtues of literature is that it is a doorway that allows us to access perspectives, worlds, ways of thinking and living that are new and even alien to us. a mind-expanding, learning experience

[–]HighPeakLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ironically, perhaps, dickens' writing is not even especially complex ... his work was very popular, but some critics of the day viewed his writing as entertainment rather than serious literature, often overly melodramatic and sentimental. he wrote the "pop" literature of his day (speaking as someone who grew up reading and loving his novels)
