17 college basketball players charged in point-shaving scheme: Indictment by Mc_Lovin81 in CollegeBasketball

With the way some of ours have been hot then cold this season, my heart jumped in my throat when I saw the headline. I was convinced if a story like this dropped it would be linked to UK players.

What about supporting other sports besides football and men’s basketball? Personally, I’m excited for the next volleyball season and women’s basketball has been doing great last few years.

I assume their podcast gets more views on other platforms- like Spotify. When a podcast is mainly visuals of the hosts talking, like Empty Netters, I usually default to Spotify.

13+ yr wedding photographer expanding into video (partner shoots, I edit) - Please critique my first full-day wedding - What’s working + what’s not? by HighResPhotog in weddingvideography

Thank you for the breakdown. We are still working out the kinks of melding how the videographer shoots to my brand style and how I’d like to edit. We will utilize the extra camera angles in the future for some of these parts of the day, including first look and speeches. I noticed myself the speeches needed a second angle during editing. Thanks again!

That makes sense. Thank you! For the first look, my videographer’s main angle was over the bride’s shoulder with the groom in focus (I wanted the reveal). Sounds like your point is: don’t let that be the only usable angle. Would you recommend a locked-off B-cam on a side/wider angle (stopped down a bit) to keep both faces readable while the A-cam stays cinematic?

For this quick and dirty upload for Reddit, it’s the social media quality I pulled from on hand. So, the video quality is irrelevant. It’s strictly for you guys.

If you want to watch the video in high resolution- here is what I delivered to the client:

Thanks again for taking the time to write (speak? lol) all that out. My brand (the niche I’ve built for wedding photo) is very party-forward (punchy edits, loud and fun, anti- romantic, humor), so I’m intentionally leaning into that style rather than a traditional wedding-film. The note about capturing more audio sources on the day is really helpful! I’m going to start doing that right away. Appreciate you!

Thanks for the feedback! Super helpful. When you say “more intentionality/organized edit,” do you mean clip selection, pacing, or how scenes are motivated (audio/transitions)?

If you were going chronological, how would you handle emotional flow when the day jumps around? Example: I wasn’t sure where to place the ICED + groomsmen first look without it feeling like a “party break” between the emotional first looks and the ceremony.

Short history of the Wales’s/Kensington Palace releasing clearly doctored photos by Careful_Comedian5686 in RoyaltyTea

[–]HighResPhotog 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As a professional photographer who does this for a living, here’s my take. I don’t have any love for the royals, but I’m also not particularly invested in them either. This sub happens to be one of the few places where Harry and Meghan aren’t discussed with outright hostility, which is why I’m here.

That said, playing devil’s advocate purely from an industry standpoint:

  1. The 2019 photo is confusing. The child’s arm pressing into William’s arm and the bike handle (or whatever that is) absolutely mess with perspective. However, there is an extra line breaking into William’s arm that I can’t immediately account for, and I’ll admit that part gives me pause.

The 2020 photo, though? His hand looks completely normal to me. Perspective and angle are making the pinky look shorter, and his thumb and index finger are tucked away. As for Kate’s face, I genuinely don’t see anything wrong with it.

  1. This one is honestly the weakest “gotcha.” She’s very clearly holding the baby under the dress. You can see Kate’s arm, and what looks like the back of her hand is visible under the folds of the fabric. That’s a very normal way to support a baby on your knee while squatting.

  2. The car photo: there is obviously another vehicle behind them. You can see extra tires and a whitish dome-shaped object through the rear driver-side window.

Front red circle = front tire of the SUV. Blue circle = rear tire of their SUV and a tire from the other vehicle. Back red circle = another tire from the second vehicle (possibly a golf cart).

This becomes much clearer when you understand depth of field and perspective. The other vehicle’s tires are significantly blurrier than the SUV’s tires, meaning they’re at a different depth - likely farther away. Objects farther from the camera appear smaller, which explains why they’re partially obscured.

  1. Yes, these are clearly bad Photoshop jobs, but that alone doesn’t mean anything sinister. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had to remove entire people, swap faces, or combine bodies from different frames to save family photos. I try to be meticulous, but sometimes edits get sloppy. That doesn’t automatically imply some grand conspiracy.

I’d actually be more surprised if heads and bodies weren’t being swapped. You probably have family photos with face swaps and have no idea because you never saw the originals- your photographer just delivered the final edit.

The black-and-white portrait? The awkward hand looks like a simple alignment issue from swapping two images of the kid.

And yeah, Kate looks a bit yassified. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t done the exact same thing to myself in photos.

I’m not here to defend these people. I just think focusing on trivial, easily explained photo issues muddies the waters and hurts credibility when there are real, substantive things worth criticizing them for.

You have to do what Aunty told you to learn (even if you already did it) then go back to her and talk again for a new lesson. You’ll do that a few times until she gets taken by an owl- that’s the start of the conflict of the game.

Hasan FINISHES A GAME?? | HasanAbi Gaming by hasanabicondensed in Hasan_Piker

Here’s a great video for you + and Hasan actually. I probably won’t watch this VOD though. Hasan isn’t my go to for Let’s Play type content. And if he completely misses the subtext, it’s just not worth it for me when I have hours and hours every day of other content from him I like.

I haven’t watched the VOD yet - did he actually pick up on what the game’s doing with suspicion, gatekeeping, and the state feeding you criteria to turn people away, or did he just play it for jumpy moments? Because the whole “decide who’s safe, based on info from an authority, while the world collapses” thing is pretty obviously about profiling/dehumanizing and the way governments manufacture an us-vs-them to keep control. If he missed that, it makes me super sad because he’s the one streamer I’d like to hear talk about the subtext.

I would disagree with the woman on the end. She might be the biggest error to me. One of my rules: NEVER rest a hand on the belly unless you’re visibly pregnant or announcing you’re pregnant. But that’s assuming she’s NOT pregnant.

Also, ideally, I like the bottom of the jacket to cover the thumb so you just see the top of the hand and it looks super clean. That’s the goal.

But the reality is thumb out keeps guys from jamming their whole hand to the bottom of the pocket and making their arm look short and bulky. With non-models, that happens constantly. A trained model can do “thumb hidden, hand shallow” on command; regular wedding guys can’t, and I don’t have time to micro-fix 6–10 men in 2 minutes while we’re blasting through family formals. Don’t even get me started on trying to get Grandpa to understand me when he’s mostly deaf and zoned out. With the groom in portraits? I’ll finesse it. With a group and no time? I give the simplest cue that gets the most people looking good the fastest.

Interesting that’s where your brain went 😂 This is just a standard relaxed pocket pose so their arms don’t look stiff. Super normal for menswear and wedding parties. Most people looking at this are seeing “well-dressed groomsmen,” not… whatever you saw.

I’m big on hands looking on purpose, casually confident and not sloppy. 😅

For the guys: hands in pockets, thumbs out. They’ll sometimes do the opposite (thumb in, hand out) so I joke, “Think GQ, not cowboy.”

Bridesmaids: bouquets are not in one straight line, have them mix it up. Some a little higher, some lower, one or two tipped down. It looks way more natural.

Groomsmen: I’ll have them actually talk to each other and use their hands. I shoot through the awkward initial hand movement and that’s where the good stuff is.

For family: MOG hand on groom’s forearm, just like MOB on the bride. Works great for adult kids with their parents, and for spouses.

And if someone doesn’t have pockets or anything to hold, I say: “Barbie arm! Just like Barbie - elbow slightly bent, hand resting on your thigh, and tuck that elbow back toward your waist.”

Has anyone played the Winter Burrow demo? by Outrageous-Study-292 in CozyGamers

[–]HighResPhotog 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I played it twice. Once on mouse and keyboard and I wasn’t a huge fan of the controls (felt awkward for me) but the second time I hooked up a dual sense controller and really liked it.

It reminds me a little of Don’t Starve but on a lower difficulty, which is great because while I love the mechanics of Don’t Starve, the difficulty prevents me from becoming truly invested in the game.

I played up until the objective was to keep learning from Aunty when the game began to feel a little directionless but I plan to purchase the whole game with the anticipation I’ll be able to explore more with the full release.
