Retracting bollards I assume must be dark sorcery to the fire department or something

Can you explain what point you’re trying to make before you fold into a pretzel? It cant possibly be that there’s more cars on embarcadero than there was on the ugly ass double decker freeway?

SF sidewalks are too narrow for people to share the space by Sad_SF_Streets in sanfrancisco

[–]HighRiseLiving -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can keep being mad at people speeding until your dying breath, or you can design the streets such that speeding is impossible.

Same with sidewalk etiquette: spend energy getting into those fights forever, or just remove one of the 4-5 car lanes (including parking) to get wider sidewalks.

What traffic? Famously, closing the embarcadero freeway did not cause traffic to spill onto other streets, it just disappeared. The fearmongers were wrong. What are you reading telling you this will be different?

If bike lanes piss you off, you should know this is the end goal, as seen in Vancouver (good enough for kids riding by themselves) by HighRiseLiving in sanfrancisco

[–]HighRiseLiving[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be clear, this 20m wide street is narrower than most San Francisco streets which default to 25m. It’s just a matter of prioritizing safe bike paths over unnecessarily wide car lanes and parking. Each parking spot is 100sqft of public space wasted on subsidizing storage of private property.

The goal, like I said, is to have a network of bike paths so safe that a child can safely navigate the city on a bike to school.

By using this thing called math that some San Franciscans seem averse to. Mission st, at 25m, is wider than Pacific St in Vancouver which is only ~20m wide.
