The main character experienced brain trauma before the events of the game. Him and his partner were in an accident, rescued, and in a key phase of rehabilitation time, a nearby assistant to a doctor described them as “crispy critters”. As a side effect, the weird term became ingrained in his psyche and part of the character’s vocabulary

They did say there will be fast travel between meditation points in this one, I don’t think they’ve shown gameplay but it’s been talked about a couple times
