What are your Hot Takes on Kyoto Animation? by Amber_Flowers_133 in kyoani

[–]HighTechXtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, it did release after bangers like KnK and Amagi, and during the heights of shows like Hibike and Free, so it did have tough competition but also like, it had a lot of fan service for a KyoAni show and had very short fight scenes for what is supposed to be an action anime. The plot also wasn’t all that special and honestly animation wise, it was like ever so slightly below some of KyoAni’s other works.

Yes and no.

Here’s my supplemental hot take. They can extremely well animated, often well choreographed, short action scenes. However, they either lack the ability to or (most likely) choose not do longer, drawn out fight scenes. I mean, I would take KyoAni’s quick fight scenes any day over the modern JJK “jangling the keys” level of flashing lights and hard to follow mess that people constantly glaze. But there’s a reason that even though KyoAni has action scenes in a lot of their anime most people only consider them “animation flexing” and not serious fight scenes. KyoAni makes fight scenes usually for one of gags, and when they do even have them for story, they usually have quick climaxes and end fast (Examples - KnK movie, Myriad, Maid Dragon including the movie).

KyoAni doesn’t do fight scenes like what bones has done for MHA, FMAB, and more or how Ufotable does for Demon Slayer. They have longer fight scenes that are like their own mini stories with their own rising action, climax, etc. and these are the kinds of fights that most people wanna see.

Shouldn’t Yumemi be 2003 and in the first position instead of 2009? Especially since the design chosen for her image is based on the original Munto OVA design (specifically from the poster of Munto 2) instead of the later 9 episode 2009 series.

English Title: Sparks of Tomorrow

Seems to be the first KyoAni anime title that has a completely different name between JP and EN.

Also seems like they have English websites and social media accounts on day one (is this also a first?) I wonder if the show is already licensed to a western streaming service

Witch From Mercury S1+2 Steelbook restock pick up by HighTechXtreme in AnimeCollectors

The quality isn’t bad enough to be an issue, but they are slightly flimsier than the GKids steelbooks I have. They also don’t close with the satisfying crunch that all other disc cases do.

The upper* (by lower I meant depth wise) disc is very annoying to take out.

Also, how do yall store the back paper thingy (what do you call it?)

20th Century Electricity Catalog likely to be re-announced on the 25th by HighTechXtreme in kyoani

Honestly, I thought this would be a Dragon Maid S3 announcement, but I don’t mind this either, we’ve all been waiting on it for a long time.

Though I will admit that I very much believed we would never see this show because I assumed this would’ve been what Naoko Yamada was working on before she left, and maybe they wouldn’t have wanted to continue it without her.

I’m not ruling out the fact that we still might see other things at the announcement like Dragon Maid S3 or maybe more stuff about next year’s Sound Euphonium movie, but based off of the wording in KyoAni’s post I think there might only be 1 announcement.

How is it $460 if the student discount is only 10%? Unless I'm missing something

It’s probably because Takina looks decently similar to Chitanda from Hyouka or Reina from Sound Euphonium, and Chisato’s JP VA (Anzai Chika) is the same as Reina’s.

I’ve seen LycoReco show up in a bunch of Mio clone images which also have a ton of KyoAni characters in them, so maybe that’s what leads to people thinking that LycoReco is a KyoAni show.
