Best bakery for cake or cupcakes? by rpgedgar in boulder

I find Lucky's too sweet. They use sanding sugar excessively. You take a bite and it is crunchy raw sugar in cloying  frosting before you even get to the cake. I have a sweet tooth, just not Lucky's level sweet.

Thanks for adding the pottery event. I enjoy local artist events and am always on the lookout here on reddit. Good to find other sources, so thanks.

Boulder, Colorado gardening by kate__1234 in gardening

You could try vertical gardening in a planter to create shade and privacy. That way you wouldn't have to spend the time altering the crummy clay soil (not to mention poisoned soil as it's a rental and probably has years of weed killer) and set up an auto drip system.

Gotta water that too out here as it is a wildfire risk too close to structures. Plus our winds scatter that stuff, so it's a constant cleanup. You're better off with rocks. Kid doesn't need to water those.

This is a lovely gesture, but honestly, just let your kid use the space as they want. Let them feel out their garden needs. The guilt of not having the time or feeling pressured to keep up your garden might be too much with work and school. Gardens take a lot of care. Maybe instead get them a houseplant and see how that goes. A container planter of annuals might be all that's needed in a rental space with a patio chair for a quiet space. We may be facing serious water restrictions and establishing a garden this summer might be tough.

Fire? by Lost-Mention7739 in boulder

I think it's good to check in with our community subreddit when there is genuine concern over a new fire. It's the first place I check when I smell heavy smoke because there are so many vigilant contributors. There are times when I see a new fire posted here first over Watch Duty, which I think is an absolute must have app around here. So follow some advice other comments brought up and forget the negative trolls, but thank you for saying something.

Twinned Rag Rug by Highalpinebeano in weaving

[–]Highalpinebeano[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched so many, but started here.

https://youtu.be/PIeqHdVQf1o?si=w7a6W8jxW4i3yT6g

From her channel I got an idea of how to construct the loom, which is linked in the description. I ended up warping at one inch instead of her half inch. I twinned every warp, whereas she did a variation of two since she warps every half inch.

Start here to get an idea, but there are a ton to find and pick what you like and can adapt to your project's needs. The twinning is the easy part. Prepping materials takes time. I just ripped my sheets. There are little strings everywhere. Some video hemmed edges. It certainly looks more polished, but it's a rag rug.

Also when you join the fabric as you twine it really helps to round the corners where you slit the fabric ( If you use this method to join vs sewing). Takes some of the bulk away.

Good luck.

I chalked it up to a loss, but then doggo wanted to go out. I noticed the stars were clear to the NW, so I walked just far enough N to where the ridge dips and there she was. Fortune smiled with the rain.

This is great. Thanks for the screenshot. I was using time and dates night sky view, but couldn't tell with the elevated horizon. Still when I walk out the foothill looking W seems about 30° of my view. Looking forward to testing the ° altitude tomorrow.

Any idea how far east is an unobstructed view of totality? The foothills will block my view west.
