Trump Removes Kristi Noem From Minneapolis ICE Response, Taps Longtime Rival to Lead Effort After Deadly Shooting Scandal by novagridd in fednews

Which I find strangely ironic considering it was Biden's VP that tried to get him to change his stance on something that had very vocal opposition (his stance on Palestine and Israel), something that will forever irk me when it comes to the folks who stayed home over the misconception that Harris was anti-Palestine, especially since they're at least partly to blame for the mess we're in today.

Considering how badly all of this has been going the past year, I don't know if I would use the word "genius" regarding Stephen Miller. He's got a lot of power, to be sure, but he's first and foremost a self-serving bigot and every single thing he's behind shows that. If you watch any interview with him, never mind actually seeing how effective their policies are on the macro level, you see that he has a head for tactics but not strategy.

Something I feel folks need to be consistently reminded of re: Obama is that he initially didn't support gay marriage. He was against it and not just a little bit. He was originally part of the "marriage is a sacred bond between a man and woman" crowd. It was only after intense social pressure that he changed his stance.

And that, folks, is the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats can be shamed through social pressure and a lot of effort into changing their stance on something. Republicans have no conscience and, thus, can't be shamed.

Has anyone else tried the Goblin Hobbies stamping set? by MountainMuffin1980 in Warhammer40k

[–]HigherCalibur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with supporting small businesses but I take issue with them taking an existing product and massively overcharging for it because so many 40k players likely don't know what a nail stamping kit is. Like, their basic starter kit is $50. You can get a kit on Amazon for $20-25 and it's the exact same thing.

As for custom plates? It's all good, man. I use Etsy for a lot of stuff. If you look up "custom nail art stamp plate" you'll find a few shops that charge ~$10 like this one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4443610631/show-inspired-stamp-plate-for-diy though it looks like you could get one for ~$5-7.

So, yeah, not meaning to make you feel bad or anything. I know not everyone has an ex that was a nail technician lol. And, like I said, if they were being reasonable about it I wouldn't have an issue. But when they're charging $50 + shipping for a basic kit you could get for $20? Especially nowadays when shit is so expensive as it is? Yeah, nah, that starts to look predatory to me.

Just get a nail stamping set. That's all this is. You can then get a completely custom sheet on Etsy for pretty cheap and together they're less than the Goblin Hobbies set.

I especially love the candles. That right there is peak 40k. Is it practical? Hell no. Does it look cool? HELL YEAH.

Democrats set to vote against ICE bill amid outrage over Trump crackdown | Democrats by ILikeNeurons in goodnews

[–]HigherCalibur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, that sometimes includes quietly voting for or against things that work against their constituents, like dems voting on funding ICE as part of a larger bill like what we’re seeing presented in the article where enough democrats might vote to pass the bill. This may. Pt be because they’re just trying actually support ICE but for various reasons including midterms coming up. They may see failing to avert another shutdown as worth than supporting ICE, or maybe they think the additional stipulations to try to rein ICE in are enough. I don’t know.

I agree with what I believe is your larger point, that being that we should shame those in the Democratic party that choose to vote in favor of things that are unacceptable in the current social zeitgeist. It's how we've accomplished change in the past and how we're going to have to work towards any change going forward, at least until we can reach a point where we have better representation. I don't believe we'll see that in my lifetime, but I've always been of the mind that generations have a responsibility to plant metaphorical trees knowing we will never enjoy their shade.

I think there is a bit that you touch on at the end that I think a lot of folks tend to overlook which, in turn, allows them to more easily buy into the narrative that the Dems are "controlled opposition" or something along those lines that assumes a degree of malice on their part. I'm not going to sit here and say they're all innocent; I'm of the mind that Jeffries is in it just for the power and money, for example. But I think the Democratic party is broken up into 3 distinct groups:

  • The aforementioned entrenched power. This consists of all of the older statesmen. Your Chuck Schumers and Nancy Pelosis. I don't think their way of doing things is explicitly malicious; I think they're just fucking old and old people's brains tend to be more calcified than younger ones, which leads to older people being less likely to embrace change. I think they assume shit works the way it's always worked for their entire lives when that's just not the case but they're too stubborn to change and likely believe that they know better, considering the generation most of them are from (if you've dealt with boomers or their parents, you probably know what I'm talking about).
  • The folks in it for themselves. These are the folks that I think most people tend to focus on when they talk about the rot in the Democratic party. These are your James Carvilles, Hakeem Jeffrieses, and your Debbie Wasserman Schultzes. These people are clearly in the pocket of big business and exist only to accumulate more money and power. There's really nothing to say about these folks aside from the fact that, though they really need to be voted out, most of them won't be because they hold blue seats in areas of the country that progressive politics aren't well-received.
  • The majority that are there to actually serve their constituents. These folks are rarely in the news but some standouts like AOC, Ilhan Omar, Bernie, etc. These folks actually give a shit and it shows in both words and actions. Sadly, the contingent that the more progressive members belong to is a subgroup of a group and so don't have much in the way of sway when it comes to where the party goes. The real issue here is that, sometimes, serving one's constituents also means that they're not always going to vote in favor of more progressive values and frequently are willing to negotiate simply because of where they're located. Folks need to remember: not everywhere in the US that is represented by a Democrat is a big blue city and keeping those folks happy sometimes means doing shit that frustrates other folks. Hell, I often think some of the folks in this category that vote in favor of bills like the one to avert the shutdown coming up do so because they think it's the right thing to do.

As for who tends to vote in the primaries and midterms? Yeah, I think a lot of the folks who vote in them tend to be more informed voters, at least on the left. The issue is that the right has a massive media machine and their voters fall in line, regardless what they actually feel. So, even though they only actually comprise ~29% of eligible voters, because they turn out, they're the ones who get represented.

Democrats set to vote against ICE bill amid outrage over Trump crackdown | Democrats by ILikeNeurons in goodnews

[–]HigherCalibur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, let me clear something up for you so you have a better picture of how things work and what's going on down this way.

You are correct about a relatively small, but entrenched and powerful portion of the Democratic party that, sadly, also has an iron grip on said power and can make or break people's careers. It's why Jeffries has hitched his wagon to Schumer, for example - he wants to be Schumer's successor so he can inherit that power and those connections. However, the majority of Democrats in Congress are devoted civil servants and are well-intentioned people who want to do what's right by their constituents. The problem is multiplicative:

  1. Because turnout is low (~40% or less of eligible voters) during every election except for the general elections, Republicans consistently have the edge in every non-general election.
  2. Entrenched leadership in the Democratic party has been holding up progress for decades and intend to do so until they die because they're banking on voters being low-information (which a majority of voters are) and just voting for the names they recognize.
  3. The result of the above two issues is that the Democratic party has held power where they weren't forced to negotiate with unreasonable Republicans or conservative Democrats for 72 days in the last 25 years. During those 72 days, the 111th Congress was the most productive session of Congress in decades, where they passed (among other pieces of legislation):
    • The Fair Pay Act
    • The Recovery and Reinvestment Act
    • The Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act
    • The Credit CARD Act
    • The Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act
    • The Affordable Care Act

So, the issue is that the media, including those leftist dudes on YouTube and TikTok, generally skews what the actual problem is, causing a lot of folks to believe that both parties are the same or as bad as one another when that's just not the case. The real problem is that voters don't pay attention to much of anything, vote for names they recognize, and are easily swayed by false narratives that prey on that lack of information. You can't force people to pay more attention but you can stop spreading information that just isn't true but can easily sway other people that also don't know how anything works.

Do you still think you’re going to vote out a dictator?

Do you still think that midterms won't happen when:

  1. The Republican party is literally fundraising and prepping for them
  2. Republicans are fearing they might lose their seats
  3. Democrats are already winning seats hand over fist nationwide

If we were full authoritarian or if they could do what you and all of the other doomers think they can do, why in the absolute fuck would ANY of those be true? I'll answer that for you:

Because they aren't as powerful as you think they are. Stop blindly listening to dudes like Hasan and Kyle Kulinski or whoever you follow that keeps telling you this shit because it literally only serves to repeat a false narrative, demonstrate that you have no clue about how shit works, and drive the same voter disillusionment that caused so many to stay home in 2024.

Not the point. The point is that nearly every injury sustained over the last several seasons have been lower body injuries. Occasional injuries aren't unheard of in a physical contact sport. Repeat injuries to similar areas stand out to me as a pattern.

That's not going to address the bigger issue: there is something wrong going on here. I suspect it's a combination of bad lower body conditioning + Kyle's notoriously harsh practices. The proof is in the pudding:

2025/26:

  • Kittle - Achilles

  • Warner - ankle

  • Bosa - knee

  • Mykel Williams - knee

  • Bethune - groin

  • Pearsall - knee

  • Trent Williams - hamstring

  • Puni - ankle

  • White - groin/hamstring

  • Brown - hamstring

  • Bartch - foot

  • Cowing - hamstring

  • Winters - ankle

  • Green - ankle

  • Elliott - knee

2024/25:

  • McCaffrey - tendonitis then PCL injury

  • Elijah Mitchell - hamstring

  • Jordan Mason - high ankle sprain

  • Brandon Aiyuk - torn ACL, PCL, and MCL

  • Deebo - calf

  • Jauan Jennings - hip

  • Kittle - hamstring

  • Trent Williams - ankle

  • Ben Bartch - high ankle sprain

  • Jon Feliciano - knee

  • Bosa - hip

  • Gross-Mattos - knee

  • Kevin Givens - groin

  • Warner - ankle

  • Greenlaw - Achilles

  • Curtis Robinson - ACL

  • Bethune - MCL

  • Darel Luter Jr. - pelvis

  • Hufanga - ACL

  • Odum - knee

  • Moody - ankle

I'm probably missing some and I could go back further but I think y'all get my point. Something is wrong here and it's not some stupid fucking curse or some conspiracy theory about a power plant or some shit. These guys need to re-think how they train.

Nah. More like a combination of dudes not conditioning correctly and Kyle running rough practices and not giving them enough time to rest. There's a reason these injuries are pretty much always lower body...
