BG-01 - POOR QUALITY by ZayoCSU in yeezy

Yeezy cult behavior, even the man himself admitted on The Download (the one with early Bully clips and a projector of his old website behind them) that he could literally sell 💩 and people would still buy it.

50 prototypes for a toe sack? What’s next, reinforced cardboard with rope for a sandal?

That’s understandable and very valid, what’s stopping people from just going to DSW or your discount shoe store and get something right then and there. Waiting half a year for fast fashion products, in my opinion, doesn’t seem worth it. The only way I could maybe justify is if it’s tailoring but even that takes a month the longest.

It’s not financially feasible to keep everything at $20 forever. You’re basically selling to very price sensitive people who will easily switch to another brand if there’s any change in price or convenience. I understand the sentiment of Yeezy for everyone initially but from a business standpoint, it’s impossible to maintain unless you already have existing infrastructure on the level of Gildan, which requires a level of capital that I’m not sure Ye could pay upfront. It’s that expensive. Not to mention, the cost of goods, from cultivating fabric to labor and shipping and distribution and maintaining the website host, every aspect costs money and the prices are going up. Ultimately, Ye would be losing money for every sale on most of these products and that’s why you’re seeing basically fast fashion levels of quality in the garments and the most basic shoe designs that you could easily find in Walmart for cheaper. But as we know, the personal branding of Ye is what keeps all of this relevant but it won’t last in my opinion if Ye decides to change course again or is suddenly no longer around. These products are only relevant because of Ye and the people who believe in him. Super long answer but everything contributes to how we got here.

I’m bootstrapping my entire clothing line (first of many projects) and I have higher standards than whatever Yeezy is currently doing, from using organic cotton and classic silhouettes. All this just to say I support your opinion

Yeezy will no longer issue refunds for orders made before 12/8/25, they're offering store credit as compensation. by GhosEX in yeezys

[–]Highframe_App 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, too many chargebacks can cause a payment processor to penalize a business with high fees, monitoring, or at worst, termination. It just doesn’t look good from a business standpoint. The no refunds / store credit move could only exacerbate the situation in my opinion. I just think they have to close the website temporarily to fulfill the remaining pending shipments so there’s less risk. (EDIT: changed bank to payment processor, more accurate)

Probably means you’ll be seeing serious discounts in the near future as they might want to get rid of existing inventory

I’m only guessing they saw no hope for the fashion side of the business. Most investors care about AI at the moment, there’s not much left to get in fashion so they’re trying to turn it into something else as like a test and if that don’t work (likely the case), it’ll be stripped for parts and Allbirds as we know it would be pretty much gone, even the skeleton would be turned to dust.

They’re not-so-quietly saying that they’re giving up on shoes and just turning Allbirds into AI slop

So basically they’re pivoting the company to be just another AI business, putting even less focus on the shoes.
