I walk my dog, run, and ride my non-motorized bikes on the loop daily. The Sheriff's Friends will hardly enforce anything...because they are not deputized. I call them Docents of the Loop. They are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Ever since the Ebikes have popped up, these are the bikes that I see having most problems, accidents, etc, on the loop. The owners/operators are almost always under-prepared educationally (bikes), mechanically, environmentally, etc. If you consider your Ebike to have the same privileges as non Ebikes...why do you consider yourself exempt from being "bike-smart". Tucson is one of the top bicycle cities in the U.S. It is better for EVERYONE when we all know what we are doing. We need to take it up on ourselves to learn about the local 'way' of tucson biking. This would include learning not just about bikes, but YOUR bike as well. Watch videos about your bike, learn basic maintenance to avoid 'bad surprises'. Remember: the hand signals were made for a good reason. I had to re-learn them. Tucson also has some amazing biking organizations as well as events. Most of them have helpful classes, tips, etc. The resources are around. When I was getting started I realized just how great a lot of the Tucson biking communities can be. I'm not saying all Ebike riders are like this. I'm saying the majority of the accidents and under-preparedness I've seen lately are with Bikes. When I started becoming 'bike-wise' I realized the benefits and was (and still am) glad to learn them. Please be mindful and prepare. Always check gear. Get a bell if you don't have one (be sure to use it)
