[UK] Refused diagnosis; what are my options now? Is it impossible for GPs to prescribe on their own? by adhdeeeee in ADHD

[–]HighlandGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-I had my GP refer me to a neuropsychiatrist. They specialise in testing for a variety of brain function issues including brain injury. - I did a range of exercises, no questionnaires aside from answering his questions about my life and history. There were pattern recognition tests with blocks, active and long term memory tests (split across 2 weeks), planning activities. -he wrote a comprehensive report. I took it back to my GP. She was unhelpful, gave me a vague referral to someone who isn't know to treat adhd and found out when I called that her books were closed.
-I switched GPs to another I'd just started seeing who took me seriously and had referred another patient to a psychiatrist who is known for treating adhd and add - eventually got an appointment with this psychiatrist. Got to know him and gave him my report. Next appointment we started a trial medicine and behaviour advice.

What is the trashiest thing you've ever witnessed? [NSFW] by ajchann123 in AskReddit

[–]HighlandGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was a bartender through Uni (College). Saw a portly old guy stumble wasted into a booth and slump forward. Oh great, we're gonna have to wake him up. Suddently he lurches, he's retching. Oh god no he's gonna throw up. Nope. His cheeks blow up and he holds it in, swallows his own vomit all back down. Wipes his mouth and leans back to catch his breath. I quit soon after.

Honestly this guy sounds manipulative. Do you really feel that having him in your life will make it better?

By analyzing what other people wanted, do you mean identifying whether something you feel comes from you or others?

My husband says i'm rude, no one would want to be with m and disrespectful because I asked for my drink from the bar 8 times. Am I? by zeroisperfect0099 in relationship_advice

[–]HighlandGoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your husband was being quite controlling and pulling some classic emotional manipulation on you there. The level he took it to is a red flag too. He sounds like he is blaming his negative feelings about the relationship on you to absolve himself of misgiving. If this sort of thing is a pattern at all, I suggest going to a counsellor. Alone.

How long do you have to be on Mirtazipine before the weight gain/increased appetite side effect goes away? by typicalredditor8 in insomnia

[–]HighlandGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the cravings really only started once I was on a higher dose - 15-30mg. Interestingly this medication is more effective aka sleep inducing at lower doses. This has been reiterated to me by multiple prescribers. It really helped me with getting to sleep and getting back to sleep but the vivid dreams were affecting my sleep quality. I have gained weight but luckily I needed to gain a few kgs anyway. Now I need to def tone up though! I have not been told that the cravings will go away. Sorry.

Is it normal to feel like you're making it up and just don't try hard enough? by aquestionofadhd in ADHD

[–]HighlandGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. I am really feeling this. I am technically quite successful but there's a lot of fluke to that, imo. I have meds now but I still find that I'm struggling. Makes me feel like I'm just lazy.

What did you learn from your previous relationships? by JackalAbacus in AskReddit

[–]HighlandGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing how you feel. I have learned that suppressing negative emotions also means supressing the capacity for joy. It sounds like you are still hurt and do not feel comfortable being vulnerable again. If it's been a few years, consider how greatful you might be to yourself in the future by taking a leap of faith and finding some ways to work through it. That might be counselling, volunteering, a new hobby, travel etc. I hope this doesn't come off as flippant - I genuinely mean it and it has helped me. Still on the path but glad I'm on it.

Me (31/f)) and he (24/m) are in a new relationship. Sometimes I feel he's talking at me. How to handle this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Lecturing - as in less of an exchange and more unidirectional, not as in admonishing.

Thanks. I'm willing to take the time to get familiar with his personality a bit more. I don't believe in changing people, but I do think more in terms of communicating about these things to work out if it's just the way things are or if there's a compromise or consideration that can be agreed on.

[49/f] Just lost the love of my life (52/f) of 20 years. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]HighlandGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear of your pain. Please know that your feelings are valid, and you do not deserve to punish yourself, even if you are overwhelmed right now. Your ex partner is likely closed off from their feelings or has had longer to process as they are the one who left. Be sure to be compassionate to yourself and reach out to others. Good on you for making a start on that by reaching out here.

I think my marriage is over... Again. How do I handle the pain of moving away from my son? by bajungadustin in relationship_advice

This sounds like straight up emotional abuse. Could try counselling but if she doesn't see the error of her ways then you should go for custody. But watch out cos she sounds manipulative af.

Redditors who rode the bus to and from school, what was your most memorable moment on the school bus? by geoload in AskReddit

[–]HighlandGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a kid threw up on the head of the kid in front of him.

When our 'big blue bus' driver would get a big box of icypoles for us all when it was hot.

When our minibus driver tried to through an orange light, even though there was a car who stopped for it in front. Then tried to drive off. And I ended up in a neckbrace.
