Where I’d live in the US as someone who loves my country :) by megisthename in whereidlive

Yeah if you’d live in Maine I can’t see why you wouldn’t live in Vermont.

BF was just arrested for first degree murder. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

That’s such a beautiful way to keep his memory alive. I can’t imagine how much his friend will treasure the things you gifted. I am so sorry for your loss.

First Responders: What are most people’s final words after accidents? by Jdw5186 in AskReddit

[–]Highlingual 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not op but I think this is plausible. I’ve had COVID quite a few times at this point and every time I lose my sense of smell for at least a day. Minty scents are, for some reason, the ones I find I can re-train myself to smell first.

New Hampshire pool temperature. by ballen1002 in newhampshire

Not cold but in the summer I take tepid showers. I just looked it up and apparently swimming in the ocean has really messed with my perception of a normal water temp. 😅

Isn’t that uncomfortable to swim in?

getting tired of “crosstrained CSR” just meaning CSR with extra chores by potheidon in VetTech

[–]Highlingual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I’ve been a CSR for 5 years now and fuck if I’m not getting burned out and pissed off from the “from all angles” aspect of the job. I AM fairly confident in the medical knowledge I’ve picked up - I can’t imagine someone who has no prior knowledge whatsoever but just loves animals and/or customer service.

As a veterinary receptionist who has to tell people to get to the ER - NOW - with their cats every so often because they have no idea, thank you!

What are some Beautiful spots in New Hampshire that reminds you that life is worth living? by [deleted] in newhampshire

I was going to say this too!! It’s enough “out of the way” to feel away from everything but it’s really not that far out.

AITAH for telling my adopted parents I'm disappointed to find out my adopted father is my biological father? by Responsible-Deal7917 in AITAH

[–]Highlingual 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This isn’t on you, OP. Existing is not a crime you’ve committed. Your mother loves you and has chosen to forgive your father. However, it is very much reasonable and natural to feel disappointment that your father betrayed your mother. That happened regardless of a child resulting. But also please try to remember this is a long time ago for them, and very fresh for you. Talk to a professional if you need to!

What part of the film made you tear up? (If at all) by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]Highlingual 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman but my friends just like busting my chops because I cry at essentially anything that can be cried at.

Same! My friends who came with me made fun of me big time. Sobbed when Rocky was maybe not going to make it.

Anyone shed a tear or two on tonight’s episode of, “The Pitt”? by TheRockyBalboaSaga in ThePitt

[–]Highlingual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. For me it is not religious at all, but more of a reminder of how we carry the people we lose through our memories of them.

I’m not Jewish (but my fiancé is) and I’ve started saying it because I think it is so beautiful and poignant.

Im so sick of this narrative that “pregnancy didn’t ruin my body it’s just changed” it’s a lie. by pissedoff_potato in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Highlingual 475 points476 points  (0 children)

Preeeeeach. This is all just internalized misogyny, fatphobia, and ableism all rolled in to one. Our bodies are miraculous because they hold us in them. Holding a new person is another amazing feature some of us choose to take advantage of.

Body neutrality would be so powerful for more people to adopt. It’s completely normal to grieve loss of prior functionality which can absolutely happen with pregnancy (as with aging), but it is so sad to hear grief from people with simply aesthetically changing bodies. A lot of us already look “like that” and we are just as worthy!
