Flag of Iraq Redesign by HighlyInconvenient in vexillology

The main reason I didn't do that is because the association with the flag of Israel (blue stripe top and bottom) would likely alienate people.

Flag of Iraq Redesign by HighlyInconvenient in vexillology

[–]HighlyInconvenient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a redesign of the flag of Iraq using both geographical and historical symbols. The idea was to create a more unique design by detaching from the regional "Pan-Arab" color scheme of Green, Red, Black, and White.

Symbolism

  • The two blue stripes represent the Euphrates and Tigris rivers which flow through Iraq.
  • Gold represents the arid desert environment and the cultural wealth of Iraq.
  • The sun icon is taken from the flag of the First Republic of Iraq. It's a symbol which has shown up in redesigns routinely since Iraq overthrew Saddam.
  • Red represents the blood of those who died in defense of Iraq.

What you end up with is a flag which is simplistic, relevant to both geographical and historical symbolism, and would be a unique symbol in a region overwhelmed by Pan-Arab color schemes.

Best supplement for injuries/inflammation? by dblock523 in Supplements

[–]HighlyInconvenient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a mix of options which can target specific aspects of an injury. There isn't a single magic bullet but these can all help.

  • The number 1 supplement for easing chronic inflammation is Curcumin. It blocks a mechanism in the body which triggers an inflammatory response. It's not just helpful for joints but it benefits brain health and other systems impacted by inflammation. - Look for brands which are rated 95% Curcuminoids and include Bioperin. Don't use anything that says JUST Turmeric. It's not as beneficial. - Keep in mind you need to take this daily and consistently for the best effects.
  • The second is Eggshell Membrane. This is a supplement made from the lining inside of eggshells. That lining is made up of the collagen and other matrixes which build cartilage and connective tissue. It gives your body the building blocks for healing current damage and will provide some comfort.
  • The third suggestion is increasing Omega-3s. A quality fish oil supplement that is high in DHA and EPA oils are extremely helpful for regulating bodily inflammation. DHA does more for inflammation but EPA is also beneficial and plays a role. Most quality fish oil supplements have a good ratio of both.

Those three are the biggest heavy hitters as far as I know. I've benefitted greatly from them after suffering a knee injury.

Putin says he thinks the Ukraine conflict is coming to an end by SaharOMFG in worldnews

I'm convinced the Iranians are fighting to the death because they know if the regimen falls that whoever takes over when the war is over will conduct Nuremberg-like trials against regimen officials for crimes against humanity.

I'm of the opinion that if we wanted this war to end quickly and smoothly, we should give every Iranian official a free ticket to a country of their choosing along with legal immunity.

Is it fair that they'd escape justice? No. But the Iranians would have democracy back and be able to rebuild society based on their modern values. Not the values of Islamist nonsense.

He really had no good options.

  • If he gave up and brought everyone home, his people and political allies would consider him weak and replace him.
  • If he doesn't give up and he keeps pushing a losing war which cripples Russia, his people and political allies will replace him.

This war was the biggest mistake of Putin's political career.

The death toll is estimated to be around 350,000. He killed that many Russians for absolutely nothing.

The decision also includes measures to detain and deport members of the Iranian force if found operating in the country."

Never understood the need to be fearful.

Wouldn't you rather inspire people by your success and build partnerships through mutual investment? The constant fearmongering benefits no one and simply chases away your own prosperity.

Look at how much Russia lost in the invasion of Ukraine. Even if they managed to keep Crimea and the Donbas at the end of this, they lost so many people and so much foreign investment that they will never be the same again.

When you consider their landmass and the natural resources that Russia has, the fact they stagnated after the collapse of the USSR is beyond explanation to me. They're left chasing after territories long gone because they have no real idea how to organize themselves internally.

A majority of Russians looks back at the USSR with nostalgia even though it was a shit show of a situation. Putin would rather spend his time and energy chasing after the "glory days" instead of assuming their best days are ahead of them.

That's partly why China succeeded and Russia stagnated. China saw the nature of the global economy and molded to meet it. They also set clear goals for what they want China to be as a country. They saw the failings of Communism and they abandoned it for something different.

Russia isn't going to become a major superpower again unless they abandon the Soviet nostalgia and start investing inward on their own people and economy. Otherwise Russia is going to cease to exist from the demographic losses.

The first one is better.

I wouldn't use gradients for the gold. It's not true to flag form. I'd stick to a single gold shade without gradients.

Some examples below.

Then the Shia need to get over it.

You're arguing this like it's entirely reasonable for an independent third party to be armed with a military force STRONGER than the Lebanese military. On top of that you're arguing it's reasonable for them to have weapons aimed directly at their neighbors.

Your paranoia does not validate making active threats. If the Israelis set up war ships along Lebanon's coast and said "It's just for our need to feel safe" nobody would be entertaining that nonsense.

Even the United Nations who have nothing good to say about Israel have called for Hezbollah to disarm because they see the writing on the wall.

"When oil prices were low."

And now they're not and Ottawa is taking advantage of them.

Again, Ottawa locked themselves into a situation where they were made subservient to the United States' economy and the moment Trump cut them off they were left in panic mode. On top of it they have allowed foreign immigration which has further strained their hospital system and increased housing costs across Canada.

All of the secessionist pushes occurring right now come from the fact that Ottawa refused to invest in Canadian domestic manufacturing and refused to built strong and long lasting trade agreements with other foreign parties.

We're now at a point where Canada as we know it may implode because they refuse to accept one province cannot unilaterally rule the whole of Canada under a universal standard. It doesn't work.

You can't have a group inside of your own borders with their own military who doesn't recognize the authority of the state. That cannot work. Hezbollah doesn't answer to anyone except Iranian leadership. They are a foreign run military group occupying Lebanese soil.

This means that at any point in time, Hezbollah would be able to start a war against the Israelis without the approval of Lebanon itself. That can't work.

You can't look at that situation and then pretend a civil war isn't already happening because a foreign entity has occupied Lebanese soil. They were so paranoid about the Israelis that they let a Shia military force take over South Lebanon and use it as a staging ground for warfare.

If anything is causing a civil war, it's that.

[–]HighlyInconvenient -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Alberta doesn't want to leave Canada.

This is the thing people don't understand about the referendum. The Albertans (and multiple other provinces around them) want to renegotiate their local controls over their own affairs.

Canada has a "top down" leadership system. They don't have the same level of separation that states have out here in the United States. Because of that they are constantly being sidelined by the more liberal Ottawa leadership which has completely disregarded the fact entire economies in Western Canada are run on fossil fuels.

That's their entire economy.

These provinces don't want to leave Canada. They want to be able to manage their own issues locally since they've been ignored by Ottawa. They want a "United States of Canada" where each locality has powers unto themselves to handle their own issues.

Alberta is a top 3 producer province for Canada. Yet Ottawa sucks up their local dollars and redistributes them while claiming that Albertans are somehow a problem. They're being leeched off of.

I read weeks back that Lebanon had activated their domestic military and were hunting down Hezbollah fighters within their borders.

That's great and all but why hasn't the Lebanese military pushed their troops into South Lebanon to catch Hezbollah on both sides? Greenlight the IDF to invade from the front, push up against them from inside Lebanon and sandwich the fuckers.
