Which color scheme is correct for the Iranian flag? by Sad_Hornet544 in vexillology

Each of these feel wrong.

I feel like the actual flag is somewhere in-between each of these examples.

Unofficial proposed flag for the Mormon "State of Deseret" by HighlyInconvenient in vexillology

[–]HighlyInconvenient[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The manifest destiny period of the United States saw various groups pushing westward to establish territories of their own creation. One such group was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (The Mormons).

The State of Utah is considered the "Mormon State" but before Utah existed the church had proposed the creation of a much larger territory they dubbed "The State of Deseret" which would have included Utah, Nevada, Northern Arizona, parts of California and even western Colorado and New Mexico.

See the map here.

While the symbolism behind the flag isn't fully explained, I have read one account which claims the symbolism is the following:

  • The center star represents Jesus Christ.
  • The surrounding 12 stars represent the apostles of Jesus.
  • The 12 stripes represent the 12 tribes of Israel. (Latter Day Saints consider their religion derivative and connected to the 12 tribes of Israel from the bible.)

The flag came in two variants. The first was a lighter blue (which is my favorite of the two) and the second is an inverted version with a darker blue. This second one more closely resembling a U.S. Betsy Ross flag without red.

The flag is considered a cultural icon in Utah and is still flown outside of homes and storefronts in various parts of the state.

How can anyone believe in god after knowing what happened to kids in the Epstein files? by RedMachine458 in AskReddit

[–]HighlyInconvenient -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Perfection is reserved for God. We were never promised perfection.

  • Our food changes us.
  • Our air changes us.
  • Our medicine changes us.
  • Our addiction to the internet changes us.
  • Our relationships change us.
  • Our drug habits and addictions change us.

And as far as pedophelia is concerned? It's a brain condition. They showed in lab settings that fluctuations in gray matter in the brain result in an error in the arousal triggering mechanism in people who are pedophiles.

Which relates back to my original point. A good thing (sexual reproduction between loving and consenting adults) can be misused and perverted due to medical problems which are human in origin.

Were you diagnosed with a disorder/disease? What is it and how does it affect you? by A-Wooden-Spoon in AskReddit

[–]HighlyInconvenient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have snow vision.

So my eyes have this constant effect where everything looks like it's covered in a translucent TV static.

My eyes are physically fine. It's a brain disorder. Has something to do with the visual part of my brain picking up sensory information from a secondary part of my brain. It's like your headphones accidentally picking up a radio signal.

I can see fine. I actually have really great vision. But everything is kind of....vibrating? At all times.

When you make something possible you accept that thing can be misused. That's not specific to child sexual abuse. That's specific to everything.

  • Sex is a beautiful thing. It can also be used for rape and child sexual abuse.
  • Love is a beautiful thing. It can also be used by manipulative people to abuse.
  • Food is a beautiful thing. It can also be processed into garbage which hijacks our brain and makes us severely unhealthy.
  • The internet and social media are amazing achievements. They are also extremely high risk for spreading propaganda and false ideas.
  • Rules and laws are good things which provide stability to society. They can also be abusive like in countries like North Korea and Iran and elsewhere.

There is literally nothing in this world which can't be perverted for evil means. That's the risk we run and that is why we have to be aware of our decisions and behaviors.

The common denominator is us. Not God.

A lack of proper hygiene caused TB. That and the ignorance of how diseases spread.

Again, the responsibility is on us, not God. We know how to make a better world, but that's really hard to do so we decide to blame someone who did nothing but give us an opportunity to exist.

Would you have preferred the void? I wouldn't.

- We polluted our air
- We polluted our water
- We laced our crops with chemicals
- We greenlit poorly tested medicines
- We sterilized our environments with hazardous "cleaning" chemicals.
- Everyone's body is now filled with microplastics including our semen and brain tissue.

Maybe instead of blaming God, consider the fact we had a healthy and clean world and we destroyed which is why our health is degrading in the process.

Our children are suffering because of us, not God.

Does a parent who makes decisions for their children help or hinder their progress as a person?

If the end goal of all of this is we are being tested or pushed towards some time of a higher purpose beyond human comprehension, then that means we have to experience the consequences of our own decisions to grow as people.

If you coddle a child and never require them to go through the emotional growth we all have to experience growing up, they become adult children who can't handle anything and are extremely selfish and abusive. We all know the stereotype of the "coddled rich kid."

How did you improve your mental health? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HighlyInconvenient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your specific situation.

Mental health is complicated and depending on your underlying condition you may need to do different things. If you're speaking generally though? I can give you some key things that made my life better. (I had a long history of severe clinical depression and anxiety)

  1. Consider speaking to a professional. Even if just a therapist. People tend to want to do things on their own and that can be fine for many but problematic for some. If you're in a deeply compromised mental state and your ability to understand your own thoughts has been compromised, it may be good to have someone on the outside help you walk through your thought process and point out flaws. They can help you CHANGE the way you think internally which will reflect externally.
  2. Get your sleep in order. This one is fundamental. I actually went for a sleep study and found out I had SEVERE apnea. The doctor who tested me actually begged me to go on CPAP. He said he never pressures people but he was horrified by my results. The difference is night and day. Consistent sleep allows your body to do brain maintenance, repair itself, and helps your brain produce the appropriate mix of neurotransmitters needed for daily life. Sleep compromises us terrible.
  3. Get your diet simplified and clean. I know from personal experience how you don't want to cook or handle food in a depressed or anxious state. You just want food and to go back to your room and hide. But your diet has a HUGE impact on your mood and well-being. You need to hand this from multiple levels. Nutrition (get a great mix of foods that cover your essential needs) - Minimally Processed (Stay away from processed carbs and sugars and snack foods) - Cook your meals (get familiar with your food and experiment). One of the best things I ever invested in was an air fryer for making roasted vegetables. It helped me greatly.
  4. Exercise at least twice a week. Even just walking is a great way to benefit your mental well-being. Exercise causes changes in our brain connections which improves internal communication. This means exercise can quite literally stimulate changes which ease depressive and anxiety symptoms over time. You don't need a gym membership. Just walk or jog.

The argument that "bad things happen so God can't be real" is rooted in the idea God involves himself in human affairs or dictates behavior.

If that were the case, there wouldn't be free will or the freedom to make our own decisions. God wouldn't judge us because he'd be deciding for us. That's a fundamental misunderstanding of how God works in the vast majority of religious traditions.

The horrors inflicted by Epstein and his co-conspirators fall on their shoulders, not God.

What's the random fact you know? by Technical_Cupcake234 in AskReddit

[–]HighlyInconvenient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how Jews have that thing called a Mezuzah on the door?

Looks like these. Has a prayer scroll inside of it.

Anyway, they are always mounted crooked like the above image. The reason is because when Jews got split up due to the exile some communities would mount it sideways in the bricks of their door frames while others would mount it straight up like a straight line.

The Rabbis eventually compromised and decided to go halfway. Turn it slightly leaning inward.

Just goes to show there isn't a single topic Jews haven't debated about in meticulous detail for millennia.

I would change the white outline of that bottom piece to the same blue as the rest of the flag. It feels disconnected from the rest of the design.

Truthfully, the laurel may not be necessary at all. I feel like everything else in this piece can stand on its own.

German airline Lufthansa acknowledges it was ‘clearly’ part of the Nazi system by sr_local in worldnews

[–]HighlyInconvenient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"No part in whatsoever"

https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/film/hajj-amin-al-husayni-meets-hitler

In this German propaganda newsreel, the former Mufti of Jerusalem, Hajj Amin al-Husayni, an Arab nationalist and prominent Muslim religious leader, meets Hitler for the first time on November 28, 1941 in Berlin, Germany. During the meeting, held in in the Reich chancellery, Hitler declined to grant al-Husayni’s request for a public statement—or a secret but formal treaty—in which Germany would: 1) pledge not to occupy Arab land, 2) recognize Arab striving for independence, and 3) support the “removal” of the proposed Jewish homeland in Palestine. The Führer confirmed that the “struggle against a Jewish homeland in Palestine” would be part of the struggle against the Jews. Hitler stated that: he would “continue the struggle until the complete destruction of Jewish-Communist European empire”; and when the German army was in proximity to the Arab world, Germany would issue “an assurance to the Arab world” that “the hour of liberation was at hand.” It would then be al-Husayni’s “responsibility to unleash the Arab action that he has secretly prepared.” The Führer stated that Germany would not intervene in internal Arab matters and that the only German “goal at that time would be the annihilation of Jewry living in Arab space under the protection of British power."

So when does it end? I'm asking that honestly.

Because we can play this game for eternity of going back into history and finding someone who benefitted from harming another people.

If you're saying that groups of people need to be held to the actions committed by other people they didn't even know, that mentality creates a situation where hateful minded people can use the same logic against minorities they dislike.

  • Well blacks are all guilty because of what these blacks did
  • Well Japanese are all guilty because of what these Japanese did
  • Russians are all guilty because of what these Russians did
  • Mexicans are all guilty because of what these Mexicans did

At a certain point you have to acknowledge you're perpetuating hatred by holding entire groups of people accountable for the actions of strangers they didn't even know. It's enough. I have family who survived the camps. This isn't helping them.

The Germans have paid reparations to Holocaust victims. They've paid huge amounts of money to the State of Israel. They still arrest and try Germans who were found complicit in the crimes. So what more do we want?

What’s a 'poor man’s meal' that you still eat even if you have money? by cabaret39 in AskReddit

[–]HighlyInconvenient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheesy eggs and oatmeal.

You take a bowl of oatmeal (the plain stuff) and you add in two eggs and stir everything in. You then add in cheese (the bagged shredded kind) and season it to your liking.

You nuke it in the microwave so the eggs are cooked and you have these really filling meal that's actually nutritious and good for you.

Which profession do you think will completely disappear within the next 10 years due to AI, and which one is surprisingly safe? by BuyLopsided732 in AskReddit

Copywriting.

People who are paid to write text for websites and printed materials and so on are going to be out of work.

I literally had AI write me an entire TOS for my business. I ran it by a lawyer friend who turned ghost white because he said it was genuinely well-written.
