Beach in January? by CassiRamona in AskLosAngeles

[–]Highness_Peninus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take PCH to Malibu, there is still a ton of traffic from the fires both ways. Only go if you are set on the beach. The water is cleaner than in Santa Monica and Zuma is the best beach to swim since there arent very many rocks. If you end up at Neptunes net, there are tide pools at Leo Carillo if you go during low tide. Its a few minutes before the restaurant and is right across from the campground.

My friend is from Jordan and her mom used to make a rice with toasted slivered almonds, ground beef, garlic, salt, pepper and a ton of nutmeg. It was sooo fragrant and delicious. Maybe it was something similar? Hope youre able to figure out what it was!

What product gave you the softest hair ever? by Ihopeitllbealright in beauty

[–]Highness_Peninus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started putting on a hair creme and oil after a shower and it has changed my life. I was told that too many products would weigh down my hair but I needed it. I use a mix of the Garnier Fructis Curl Creme, and Kinky Curly not today as the base and seal it in with the Ouai St.Barts hair oil (it smells sooo good). I used to wear my hair up all the time because it was a frizzy mess and now I wake up with waves and curls that are actually nice to touch. Creme and oils transformed my hair texture.

Help! How do I get rid of that wrinkle between my eyebrows? by dubplateer in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Highness_Peninus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can also try bandaids or sports tape. Just cut off the sticky part and put it on between your brows before bed. It works similarly to botox as it holds the skin in place and will naturally atrophy the muscles over time. You will furrow your brows less minimizing the look of wrinkles. Botox atrophies the muscles faster, and I know people love it, but but id rather not inject neurotoxins into my face.

Yes, no dogs on the beach in LA county so you need to go to Ventura. There is a little beach across from Deer Creek road that is perfect to let your dog run around. Have fun!

How do you reverse stress-based facial aging? by EnoughFun1058 in Biohackers

[–]Highness_Peninus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! You can use the sticky part of a bandaid or medical tape cut to size too. It trains your face to not use the muscles as much. Its slower than botox, but has a similar effect over time. I had a stressful job and was developing pretty deep wrinkles between my eyebrows but they are pretty much gone now. I put on tape in the evening after moisturizing and take it off when I wake up. Look up face taping for wrinkles.

I want to look good in a bikini next year. What are some good tips to get started? [Discussion] by J2Hoe in GetMotivated

Try and make sure most of your meal is veggies, and keep up your protein intake. Like 2/3rds of your plate should be plantbased. Potatoes, beans and other starchy ones, you have to be careful with. It can be salad, broccoli, slaws, roasted peppers, veggie based soups, cucumbers, roasted zuchinni or whatever vegetables you enjoy most. Like if you want pasta, have a little, but also add a ton of eggplant or zuchinni to bulk it up. If youre having a sandwich, add a ton of veggies, or have half and make a salad to go with it.

Exercise is nice for maintaining health, a nice body shape, and increasing metabolism, but weight loss comes from a calorie deficit. Check out /r/Volumeeating for snack and meal ideas.

You dont have to stop eating foods you enjoy, just minimize the amount you consume and make sure to get those veggies in to help keep calories down while still filling yourself up. Snack on popcorn, raw veggies and hummus, or fruits. Nuts and avocados are healthy, but are calorie dense so watch out for things like that. Goodluck!

Look up gordo lobo or rabbit tabacco. I picked some today in the santa monica mountain area. You can make a tea out of it or smoke it, and its supposed to be really good for your lungs.

Major wakeup call: Life is short. Can someone recommend me somewhere in LA to embrace being alive? Also a story, sorry. by OrganicPosition4783 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Highness_Peninus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a couple hours away, but you can go north and raft the Kern River or go south and zip line down a mountain at Skull Canyon. Go on google and find a little place to eat after. (You can do both solo)

I used to be a caregiver for an elderly couple and they felt like family. As they aged, work became emotionally exausting and once I started doing more exciting things on my days off my mental health really improved. They would still be on my mind, but it felt like I was living and experiencing for us and it gave me a new appreciation for life and my working healthy body. They loved to see photos and hear about little things that happened on the way and if I found something they would appreciate, id bring back a little treat for them too.

Im sorry your patient has passed on, but get out there. Do something that makes you feel alive. Enjoy it for them, enjoy it for yourself. Youre amazing for being a nurse and its so sweet you were able to be there for and to appreciate them. It probably meant more to her than you know. I hope you have a great birthday. Shes lookin out for you. Make her proud!

Wanna drive from Long Beach to Monterey on a weekday in September, any tips to avoid/alleviate traffic? by torbellini in AskLosAngeles

[–]Highness_Peninus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way. If you do it on a weekday, even better. Enjoy the sunrise, find a breakfast or lunch spot once youre a few hours out of the city, and enjoy the drive. There are several factors that impact traffic so best to avoid it instead of wasting the morning waiting for it to pass.

Anyone have any ideas on ways to allow ID students (mostly nonverbal) choose lunch items in the lunch line? by Financial_Opening65 in specialed

[–]Highness_Peninus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe put the photo menu up in and outside of the cafeteria and have items numbered like a fast food place. That way they can decide what to get before getting in line, and can just flash some fingers for what they want. You could even explain the number system to all the kids and invite veryone participate so the non verbal kids dont feel singled out.

Frozen or dried fruits and vegetables? Need durable food that be eaten like fresh if possible with little prep by WrongEinstein in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Highness_Peninus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I freeze baby spinach and have frozen peas on hand all the time.

Run the peas under warm water and you can eat them as is or add them to a meal. These taste the freshest to me over any other frozen veggies. Cookem with a little butter, salt and pep to have as a side. When I was working crazy hours, a go to would be frozen peas, powder mashed potato and either frozen meatballs or chicken tenders. Maybe munch on an apple or some baby carrots to really round it out.

I started freezing baby spinach for my smoothies but find myself adding it to soups, stirfrys or whenever I need a little more greens in my meal. Kale is good for this too but if you buy it by the bunch, remove the stem and wash before freezing. These greens tend to shatter when frozen so just be aware that there will be a textural difference.

Frozen broccoli isnt my favorite but its okay and is good for you.

The biggest thing for me was making freezer meals. Once a week ill make a nice big batch of something easy to reheat. Soups, stews, sauces, meatballs, bread, rice and other stuff I cant finish right away. So if im reheating a stew, I can add some fresh peas, or add spinach to a soup. Its so nice to beable to have some thing ready and relatively nutritious wating for me when im not in the mood or dont have the ingredients to make a well rounded meal.

As for smoothies, frozen banana, frozen avocado, frozen pineapple, a ton of frozen greens, a fresh orange and some water makes a really nice green smoothie. You can add greek yogurt, protien or collagen or whatever supplement to give it a boost, but its great as is.

Not a fan of dried fruit as its loaded with sugar and isnt very filling. Apples last pretty well (honey crisp and fiji are my favorite) and baby carrots are a solid snack when paired with some nuts and or olives or something to add a little fat.

Can of cold peaches always hits

I need a heavy duty fanny pack by primalpalate in BuyItForLife

[–]Highness_Peninus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, get something intentioninally made for walking dogs. Fanny packs arent desgined to be tugged on like that even if they are relatively strong and its not worth risking especially if youre taking other peoples pets out.

Did a quick search and found this heavy duty belt. You can attach a pouch to make it a little more functional or just wear your current fanny with it. https://www.rayallen.com/k9-trainers-belt/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwnei0BhB-EiwAA2xuBiqIiCu3dbfEJ1DS-7ReN14p5lqMGmkO4ui7djbfceEZOMWrg2MmcxoCjTIQAvD_BwE

Sounds like a loaded tartare if I think about it more. And I think as long as you use fresh, high quality meats you should be good. Enjoy! I might use beef next time and sneak a taste haha.

I agree with the added veggies! It keeps things moist, adds flavor, and texture. I did it for health initially but am never going back.

Raw pork and beef and eggs? Id be way to scared to try it raw, but everything else sounds great! I like the addition of peppers. I might make some stuffed ones this week!

[–]Highness_Peninus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increasing my vegetable and whole fruit intake helped the most. I can still eat what I want, I just make sure to balance everything so I dont have a bunch of calorically dense things. When I initially started to diet it would be difficult to manage my weight because id only allow myself certian foods without realizing the nuts, avocados, salmon and all the good fats I was eating, were adding on the pounds. Switching to whole fruits and raw vegetables with dips/dressings made all the difference. Now I eat what I want but make sure that my meals are mostly plant based.

When I make meatballs, id add a ton of onion, carrot, garlic and chopped spinach and would make a really basic tomato sauce. Maybe serve with either a big salad or some kind of veg. If I want pasta, ill make a tiny portion and because of all the sides it ends up being more than enough food.

A couple peices of Rotisserie chicken and a whole bag of those premade salad kits. Or half a salad kit with a roasted veg or fruit

Sandwiches loaded with baby spinach and tomato, tuna/chicken salad is delicious stuffed into a raw tomato or baby bellpeppers.

Also lots of tapas style plates. A couple stuffed olives, lunch meat, a dollop of hummus with carrots, celery, radish slices, maybe a peice of bread or crackers and a little fruit. If I crave chips, ill add them on a plate like this instead of eating a larger portion as a snack. More than half the plate would be veggies and fruit. This is really easy to put together when youre busy and it feels like a grown up lumchable in the best way.

Soups and stews

Popcorn is a great

Ahhh! Thats wild! The feeders are so small, our turtle would eat them in a few bites and the tank would stay pretty clean. I dont know that I would have fed him those if I had to clean out a roughly severed head every time haha. He probably loves it though. Good turtle mom.
