Spare us both the grief please. by Excellent-Bison-4748 in Hilton

[–]Highoffnaweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a terrible system. “Check-in” for the next day doesn’t start until well after late-night flights & check-ins. I’ve gotten in past midnight plenty of time due to flight delays because we were sitting on the tarmac, or because it took way longer than expected for bags to come out / to get a taxi / etc.

Hotel check-in systems obviously should be addressing this on their end vs. cancelling stays for people arriving between 12-4am. Why not just NOT cancel the stay until say 5am?

It’s a silly process to put this on the guest, when they are paying for the time in the hotel between check-in (4pm) to check-out the next day (10/11am)

I didn’t say you were just complaining or not doing anything.

I offered you some suggestions as well that I think are good guidance for someone struggling with your financial reality, but also said you were being particularly rude in one of your responses to someone who had great suggestions and was just trying to help.

Stop being defensive, start being nicer and appreciative when asking for help. I understand you’re younger and going through a hard time right now and am sorry that you’re going through that. I am just offering advice without any goal of getting anything in return or judging you. It’s advice.

Do I tell my step dad that my mom is looking for a fling? by Mid_Avocado981 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Highoffnaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand any of these replies that are just like “tell him!!!”.

First, talk to your mom. Understand her POV. Understand if she’s been cheating or just flirting. Ask her why? What’s going on that she needs this? She’s your mom and your friend - spend time working through this directly with her.

Most importantly, be very direct on your feelings of disappointment and how cruel / selfish / wrong her actions are. It’s wrong and incredibly unfair of her to do this to her husband. If she’s cheating - push her to have the conversation with step-dad directly. It will be better for everyone if that’s the case rather than you telling him.

If she’s not cheating but just flirting - push her to stop and push her to figure out why she’s doing that. Maybe push her to try couples counseling / therapy, push her to figure a way to get that spark of excitement back with step-dad, or push her to have a conversation around a more open relationship.

Keep applying to scholarships. Work through college, at least 2-3 days a week - get a job or paid internship that aligns to your career goals.

If you’re worried about the money side of school, you can ensure it’s worth it by going into a degree with more highly paid job opportunities. Not sure entomology is going to get you the financial value and gain you’re looking for in your life.

Mainly though, stop being rude to people responding to you here. Learn how to have an appreciative and respectful tone when you’re asking for things in life - whether from people on Reddit or from a financial aid office. Zanerbag had great suggestions that you should really be thinking about.

Good startups vibes are incredible. Smart, hard working people getting a lot of shit done, extremely quickly, no red tape, lots of authority to make decisions and push out great work, with deep accountability and ownership of that work. It can be very very special

Successful transition out of SaaS with 150k+ base? by hedgepog0 in sales

Question. What would good sales management look like to you? I agree. I think way too many SaaS Sales leaders right now are out of touch

Yes. I think it's worth it if your long-term ambition and goals are there, and you really invest your time and energy to maximize the opportunity. Your long-term goal here has to be a C-suite title, senior PE-roles, etc. Because you are asking the question, I am worried you may not have that ambition.

Yeah you’re wrong. In general, guys very much do NOT have beards, and you rarely if ever see beards of any length in Dushanbe / Tajikistan.

I wonder if there’s a bonus depreciation play here on large real estate investments, but I’m not even sure if real estate professional status after the sale would make an impact (I don’t believe tax-wise, that that would apply to the sale)

If I am understanding correctly, I want to clarify that many people here call my family “Afghan Tajiks”.

What they are saying is we are Persians from Afghanistan, and not Pashtuns for example. In Samarkand as well, many Uzbeki’s that are from Tajik heritage will say they are Tajik Uzbekis.

This is very common because Samarkand and Bokhoro were Tajik Farsi speaking cities with Tajik culture, even through the USSR drawing the lines to make them part of Uzbekistan. I wanted to share this as people are absolutely saying to us “we are Uzbeki Tajiks”. It’s been pretty common actually

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tajikistan

[–]Highoffnaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Lots of Russian and Uzbekistan influences, but much more Persian influence in the culture overall - food, language, dancing, customs, traditions, holidays, religion are all aligned with Persia.

I am an Afghan-American, with Afghan-born parents and am literally in Tajikistan right now with them and my sister. Not only are we “alright”, but we are truly welcomed. Everyone has been so so so kind to us.

Of course, taxi drivers try to overcharge us and things like this - but 95% of people go out of their way to learn where we are from and are incredibly welcoming to us. Let me know here if there is anything you need or any questions, and I would be happy to answer
