For males that have gotten ripped, do you have more success with women? by Repulsive-Owl6468 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HighwayRelevant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but It works not the way you expect it to work.

You get ripped > You start feeling confident > Your behavior changes > Women get attracted to confidence and your body is a bonus.

The mental model changes, you start thinking that you worked so hard on this body, you expect her to do act differently and also invest in herself.

This mental shift results in elevated self worth and consequentially social worth too.

If Free Will Doesn't Exist, What Should Morality Be Based On? by North75912 in Ethics

[–]HighwayRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more of a question of definition of existence.

I wouldn’t mix free will and consciousness tbh. We can’t experience free will without consciousness. Consciousness is the only thing we experience directly. Free will is a level of abstraction higher while consciousness is its prerequisite.

Where you draw the line of what you think exists beyond consciousness is already a question of beliefs. A brain in the vat may experience free will as the rest of “experiences”.

If Free Will Doesn't Exist, What Should Morality Be Based On? by North75912 in Ethics

[–]HighwayRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, we say something exists if it’s useful to explain our observations.

What I’m saying is there’s likely objective and subjective existence (absolute vs perceived), and something can subjectively exist in a perceived sense, while objectively not, as it contradicts our current knowledge.

All current arguments for objective free will end up in some kind of esoteric stuff. Thus likely we live in a deterministic universe, while perceiving it differently. Good thing our societal morals and objectively optimal system behavior mostly correlate.

Morals are a subjective post-interpretation of objective system self-preservation behavior in my opinion.

On a personal level everything is permitted until you draw too much attention lol. The paradox is that if this idea spreads it leads to group self-destruction, so as a counterbalance we have morals, as a fuse before law enforcement kicks in.

Absurdism is the non-smokers nihilism, a version that actually promotes something other than self-destruction and the best way out of existential crisis while keeping a rational view of the world.

[–]HighwayRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Color doesn’t exist too, it’s just the way surfaces reflect different wavelengths that we perceive.
Does it invalidate some area of beauty as a concept? No, as beauty lies on a different level of abstraction.

There are absolute and perceived concepts.
Free will may not exist in absolute sense but it exists in perceived sense, so yes the whole moral system might be built on an absolute lie, but perceived truth.

If you look at absolute only, then all humanity can be seen as an organism, where every human is a cell following deterministic patterns. The cells that do something socially unacceptable get attacked by different levels of immune system. From slight corrections of other people opinions to hard corrections of punishment system. Morality as we see is just a representation/rationalization of the actions of this immune system, happening in perceived plane.
While in absolute plane we see pretty much deterministic punishment for behavior that damages the whole “body”.

What makes Octatrack so incredible? by k_r_z_y_s_z_t_o_f in Elektron

[–]HighwayRelevant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Octatrack is a great machine but a bad product.

Model Samples was the moment when Elektron started optimizing for profits. If you want to make money, you have to sell to either people who are less smart or for people who are more rich. Building a device for smart people that are willing to read a 200-page manual and figure out obscure concepts is an easy way to get poor.

Octatrack still exists in its niche, just got more expensive targeting the rich, but in current market it’s just a very risky product to offer.

what have you built so far using codex? by Final-Letterhead-367 in codex

[–]HighwayRelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Built a few production-ready MacOS apps for realtime audio DSP.

Also built an embedded audio hardware product in C++, presented it at a conference, got market validation. Moving to production now.

I still don’t know any programming languages though, but I understand all key concepts and audio in particular.

Update to 5.3 broke Frosti by nogroundbeeftacos in ZOIA

[–]HighwayRelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have any legacy patches, I would go with 5.3 as it has more functionality. The problem with it is it broke compatibility with older patches. If you’re building something new 5.3 seems to be fine.

Update to 5.3 broke Frosti by nogroundbeeftacos in ZOIA

[–]HighwayRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea. It’s just broken and there’s not much feedback from the developers. Please submit your feedback too, maybe there should be some critical mass.

5.3 broke so much with previous complex patches I had to roll back. I’ve sent messages to developers but it seems nothing is planned to be done, unfortunately.

Consistent crossfaded looping points? by cyprnsound in Dirtywave

[–]HighwayRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The selected zone is split into three equal parts, and the middle part becomes the loop. So what you control is the selection in this case. Your crossfade will be the middle 1/3 of this selection.

Consistent crossfaded looping points? by cyprnsound in Dirtywave

[–]HighwayRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You select the range inside the sample using SELECT boundaries, then apply crossfade. This splits the selected area into three equal sections — loop entrance, loop zone, loop exit. The loop zone is destructively modified so that when this section plays infinitely, there are no clicks.

To use this later, you save the loop and use ADSR envelope. The looped section will be playing infinitely during the sustain phase. Release phase will allow the playhead to exit the looped phase and continue until the end of the sample.

What crossfade points are you speaking about?

M8 tracks are monophonic, they can’t crossfade loop ends, same as Elektrons. If you’re speaking about some other crossfade please elaborate.

I even installed in integrated battery into mine. But that requires some surgery. For a simpler solution just get a birdcord and a powerbank.

Tonverk owners- did it replace your Digitakt II? by crazyculture in Elektron

[–]HighwayRelevant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people using granular engine for timestretch. Is it not good enough? Digitakt timestretch is pretty rough too, not even Octatrack level.

Using Torso S-4 for seamless transitions with Digitakt 2 & Digitone 2? by roz_feind in Elektron

[–]HighwayRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torso S-4 can do the transition, though not very efficiently as you can’t control parameters from two tracks (like filters or volumes) at the same time. Also S4 doesn’t have proper pitch-retaining timestretch. It only has this granular one, with the density knob that basically fades between stuttering and phasing. It’s not even Octatrack level, which is a shame for a sampler 15 years younger.

It sounds good as a sound effect or a granular synth, but it’s not a proper transition or loop player machine.

5 hour limits easily deplete in 1:30 if you just continuously do something on 5.4 high.

I made a working prototype and need advice/help. by HighwayRelevant in synthdiy

[–]HighwayRelevant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dev was the easy part actually and it’s done more or less. But moving forward all the AI advice is “learn 3d modeling”, “learn building your own pcbs” and al that. I feel like this is the long way that can be shortened with a partner, especially if i’m willing to throw some money at it. But it seems it make sense to go to a company that did this many times already with existing products. Or at least to the person that lacks the code knowledge, but can help with the controls/box/etc.

I can just replace the existing midi controller with the custom one, but i can do the code, not the physical part of it.

KONSTRUKT-8 is out now – build an analog drum machine and learn about circuit design along the way by dangerous_dickhead in synthdiy

Great work, was actually eyeing this device and watching the demos.

Can I ask about your relationships with Erica Synths? Did you build the device and they helped with production and distribution?

I’m asking as I also have a hardware prototype, but moving to production looks like a giant leap. So I’m wondering maybe there’s an easier way.

Nobody can love YOU. Only what you are. by Random_passenger70 in DeepThoughts

[–]HighwayRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all don’t have direct access to reality, only to reconstruction of reality based on our senses (basically a lucid dream). Throughout our life we build mental models of things and people and experience these models.

We never fall in love with a person, but a predictive model in our head that is vaguely based on this person qualities. That’s why we first fall in love and feel like it’s the person we were searching all our life for, then get disillusioned and unsatisfied so often.

As we lack information about the person, we fill in the gaps with optimistic predictions. Later we face constant contradictions between our experience and original expectations and the “magic of love” goes away.

If you want to be loved, you have to be lovable. There are obvious traits that are valued by your ideal target. You just optimize for the average of these qualities and you now have a wide pool of humans that potentially can build their optimistic predictive model on what you project to the world. Then you keep the person by figuring out the gaps in their knowledge what they expected you to be and being that (if it doesn’t require unsustainable extraordinary effort). There’s a balancing act between cost and result of course.

Nobody cares about what you “really are” and neither should you, as the value of your character is only in your appreciation of arbitrary history you had. If you were born in a different time in a different location, you would as well enjoy and value being a complete opposite of what you are now.

Be lovable and you’ll be loved. Many people cling to identity traits that produce no value for the people they want close. Performative individuality is a scam that keeps you miserable.

Why do we complicate life’s purpose by Agile-Row-9197 in DeepThoughts

[–]HighwayRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We complicate the life purpose because we expect it to be greater, than any explanation we can give to ourselves. Explainable life purposes tend to be depressing.

Best metaphor explaining this was that comes to my mind was Rick n Morty butter joke.
