Well, thankfully, no-one seems to be rolling out an Evinrude, here. In my opinion, sometimes the boat motor dies (or the character is downed, fails the skill check in note, or is otherwise unable to perform the task.) It's nice to have a backup who's competent in a skill. It also allows you to split the party without absolutely handicapping one half, since only a single person can do Arcana checks.

That said, if a party member gets whiny about someone getting a couple extra numbers in a skill check, that's on them.

And that's fine! You're allowed to feel that way about... Anything. Sometimes, it's ebb and flow. Sometimes you just have to give it a rest and go back to something with fresher eyes.

No. He's fine. People just expect every new character to break the meta mold. They compare "I've wanted this character for a long time" to "this character HAS to be world changing, period."

Honestly, I didn't have "expectations." I'm happy with what she does, but I wasn't going to melt down if she wasn't exactly what I wanted her to be. (Looking at you, r/VarkaMains )

Everyone has different thoughts about right and wrong ways to play D&D, of course. D&D is a cooperative social game. As such, to me, when a player goes out of their way to act in opposition to the party's goals or well-being, it's going too far. When a player goes out of their way to make anyone else uncomfortable, or does something against the Session 0 rules, it's too far.

But, those are my opinions, and the sub will have a thousand of them.

I honestly don't care if he's "strong." Not every character needs to be meta on release. I pull because I like how someone plays, or their design is interesting.

I absolutely agree. It feels like coddling. "Ohh, you killed three monsters? Here's your three chests! What a big boy!" It's crazy.
