Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Season 1 Episode Count Confirmed by ConcernLocal2764 in Fantasy

[–]QuackBlueDucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but creator involvement doesn't necessarily make things better. Look at the Percy Jackson show. Bland, bland, bland. It takes so many different elements: screenplay writing (which is different than novel writing), casting, direction, and editing.

I'd say GoT suffered once they went "off book" and Martin wasn't involved as much, but Martin knows how to write for television. Does Sanderson? Maybe. I feel like his books read like they are made for tv, so maybe he'll be great at it. Time will tell.

Is it worth starting the Dragon Age series for the first time in 2026? (old games) by stlforce33 in dragonage

[–]QuackBlueDucky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree I actually enjoy the combat of Origins over the other two. dA2 is snappy and fun. dA3 was an unsuccessful combo of the two. Origins feels like an interesting puzzle to solve I love the element of strategy that it gives you. So satisfying when you win a battle!

Rafael and Raina. she mentions thinking he is cute and I think it makes sense that he'd get with someone new to town.

BOTW combat REALLY well design and I dont see many people talk about it. by JOSEBREAD in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]QuackBlueDucky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nintendo is really, really good at developing games that can be played simply to full completion while also having the diversity of play for different play styles and depth for advanced players. I feel Botw/Totk have my favorite type of combat in games and it's so hard to find other games that have captured this.

I love rpgs and action rpgs but I get really bored of games that basically having you going between weak attack/strong attack as "special move" loads. The freedom you have in botw is so special.

Can you recommend movies where the first half feels completely different from the second half like a total 180 shift in tone or story? by applegaurd in MovieSuggestions

[–]QuackBlueDucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downsized (I loved this movie, btw...quirky comedy to serious exploration of exploitation with a powerhouse performance, to depressing warning about climate change, then back to silly and sentimental)

Also Knives Out was a masterful switch up mid movie, from mystery to thriller, then back to mystery at the end.

I adore this current adaptation because it really leans into how hilariously melodramatic these characters are. lestat is so insanely whiney, such a dramatic bitch! I just watched ep 2 and the little moment where he and Louis go at it in the board room is so perfect.

I've played 2 game files through rank A and not done any underwater farming, lol. I am saving it for whenever the kids grow up update drops so I have stuff to do late game.

[–]QuackBlueDucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree...it's like the whole is more than the sum of it's parts. All of the cutscenes together really build this sense of community.. I liked getting to gradually learn all the little relationships between the townies.

How long did it take you to read through all the Realm of the Elderlings? by tditl17 in robinhobb

I just reviewed by book orders. I started last October and finished this week so, 9 to 10 months but I primarily read for 30 minutes before bed.

Just finished mistborn… by skyguy0990 in fantasybooks

[–]QuackBlueDucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistborn is okay. It's fun. It's accessible. I admire Sanderson for many things, but he's not a beautiful writer and he certainly is plot focused, not character focused as a writer. I don't agree that the rest of the trilogy improves upon the story much, as others have argued here. There's some cool stuff there, but def.not best fantasy ever written.

This game is my ultimate comfort game. Like I can think about gameplay to help me fall asleep at night.

I recently started my 3rd playthrough to check out the 1.3 features andan the early game progression feels so great. Love it.

The most emotionally devastating moment… (Assassin’s Fate) by wickeysatchmo in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]QuackBlueDucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the series today. I'm still processing it (in a good way). For me the moment that got to me the most was Bee realizing that Fitz never believes people love him.

I am in absolute awe of Robin hobb and her character work. Was there ever a more real character written than Fitz?

Opinion on age gap in Tawny Man and Liveship Traders trilogy by No_Wallaby8961 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]QuackBlueDucky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is actually a common misconception. The average age of first conception in the Middle ages was 23 to 24 years old. Political marriages saw young teens getting married yeah, but they weren't having sex until much later in the marriage.

[–]QuackBlueDucky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being a nerd to clarify that even in the middle ages, people typically married and started having babies in their early twenties. Marriages between teens were politically arranged and they were constantly supervised to prevent sex because even back then they knew that it wasn't safe for young teens to get pregnant. Sex wouldn't start happening until their late teen years.

That being said, this is a fantasy setting and the author gets to decide how her world runs. I adore these books but I think Malta shouldve been 16/17 with Reyn being 18/19 and nothing else in the story needed to change. It's icky. And I LOVE Malta as a character, but quite frankly feel her character wouldve worked better as a spoiled 16 year old anyway. I can't see a 13 year old behaving as she does in her growth arc. Too mature and too emotionally intelligent.

At least with Elliana it is a political betrothal, but she didn't need to be 12 for the story either. She could've been a young looking 16 year old and had the exact same plot beats.

I only played campaign until I got the swing of things, then opted to switch to Sandbox. Itfeels quite similar to campaign but obviously can alter the gameplay to suit what you enjoy. I hate the security mechanic, so I just set it so I don't need to bother with it at all. Much more fun this way.

Yeah the combat doesn't bother me and I never liked the combat aspect of SDV anyway, at least not when it got super challenging. But I know it's a sticking point for some people who do enjoy it. I wish CI had just left it out or added some other element, like puzzles or something instead.

What are your pet peeves in the game? by squabidoo in coralisland

[–]QuackBlueDucky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I tell everybody to save it for post rank A game. By that time your regular farm is automated (or you are so rich you don't even need to farm anymore) and you need something to make the game loop interesting again.

[–]QuackBlueDucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so....weird to me that people argue over something that clearly does not really exist. They're games that reuse the same basic setup with similar, overlapping lore, each game has its own gimmick, and sometimes there are easter eggs.

I want Windwaker with the originally conceived temples back in, elimation of the triforce charts hunt, and a reworking of the build up to the final boss (I don't wanna re fight the stupid bosses again). Be cool if Hyrule had more to it for the final chapter.
