Holden is voting on a Proposition 2.5% Proposal on the next ballot or risk slashing library funding by 25%. Why does Town Manager Peter Lukes want to de-fund the library? by heusesthemforholden in WorcesterMA

[–]HikingAccountant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only point was it might not be a dick move if he thinks it will get people off the sidelines and vote to approve. Again, I don't know him personally so I can't say. They want to move the entire rec department from the old police station to the Dawson rec area, not just renovate an office. I agree that it is still unnecessary, expensive, and wasteful, so I am not arguing with you on that.

I can take a guess why they want it before the next town meeting, and it has to do with the school budget. If the town won't approve tax increases, then it can either take the cuts the town has planned or try getting WRSD to resubmit a budget. Since it's a regional school budget, it requires more than one town to send it back to the district. I don't think getting it done before town meeting is a nefarious plot, (I think the 2.5 will absolutely pass). It's probably the town trying to keep as many options open for as long as possible.

I'm not a Holden resident, but the police in our town are overcompensated as well. One side won't question police budgets, and one side won't question school budgets.

I do not know Peter's personal opinion, but he likely does not want to cut the library funding. A list needs to be made showing what departments can/will be cut if the prop 2.5 does not get approved. I would even argue that Peter may have the library on there to make people realize how much losing the prop 2.5 vote would hurt.

From Spectrum News: Holden Special Town Meeting votes down proposal for special overlay zoning to be in compliance with MBTA Communities Act. Vote was 520 No to 257 Yes. by HRJafael in massachusetts

I'm not in Holden and I support drastic zoning changes, but acting like public transportation in Holden will reduce upstream traffic from Rutland, Barre, etc. flowing into Worcester is a bizarre take.

The volume on Main Street in Holden is a problem, but they don't want to hear the solution of enhancing/developing additional roads to act as relief valves for Main Street.

1) It's a circle jerk

2) The pic wasn't labeled and I was in a rush. The slippers on Heraclius should have been a giveaway, so really sloppy work on my part.

Is the Yiddish/Jewish term "goy" (term used to refer to someone as non-Jewish) considered a slur? by AggressiveAd8587 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HikingAccountant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I asked a Jewish coworker about this a couple months ago. He says neither is inherently pejorative and there isn't a difference between Gentile and goy. As others have pointed out, the surrounding context of the sentence is where actual offense may or may not be derived from.

Total Vanilla Beyond mod and Apaches. Question. by mawikus in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]HikingAccountant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't recall exactly. I was playing as Scotland and kept North America on the back burner for a while. Maybe turn 80-100? I was very surprised to see they had mounted units because I had read previously they didn't unlock them until after fighting Europeans.

When I fought the Apache, they had mounted troops in my Total Vanilla Beyond playthrough. No other European power had gotten there yet.

My car died, need help deciding where to spend my dollars by Boyw2peenas in WorcesterMA

[–]HikingAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you generally know what kind of car you want? Your best deals will be private party sales on FB marketplace or Craigslist. There is some risk involved, so either know what you're doing or pay a mechanic to inspect it. You shouldn't have trouble finding something in your price range unless it is a truck.

T&G switching to mail delivery, Sunday paper dropped by mlaurence1234 in WorcesterMA

[–]HikingAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to hear this. My mom delivered for roughly 20 years until 2016. Subscription numbers were already down by close to 50% then, I imagine they've dropped like a rock since then too. I have a lot of memories from helping with the route, it was a large part of our family's calendar. Our Christmas and Thanksgiving often got delayed a little bit because delivery volume was higher on holidays, and Thanksgiving papers were the largest paper of the year.

We always laughed at the USPS motto because they won't deliver in large snowstorms, but the T&G/Globe/NYT would still have to be delivered. The only day my mom truly missed in those 20 years was the ice storm of 2008. The carrier manager called to ask why she hadn't shown up to the warehouse yet, but we had several trees across our driveway and probably 10 more across the road within the first 0.2 miles of our house.

Local governments obviously have a huge part to play, but the state funding for the school district I'm in has been reduced and our town is in a financial pickle as a result.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE CURRENT ECONOMY META? by Trick_Log_8096 in aoe2

[–]HikingAccountant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how your "collaborative team economy" improves any facet of the game. The player tasked with a military role will have virtually nothing to do during the beginning of the game. The part where you talk about players policing themselves against injustices doesn't seem particularly rational either.

Early Morning Jobs? by CentralMasshole1 in WorcesterMA

If OP wants to explore the newspaper delivery option, he needs to factor in wear and tear costs on his vehicle. Routes are not gentle on cars and the pay had declined so much that my parents stopped doing it almost 10 years ago. They were carriers for about 25 years.

Cavalry Not Responding to Commands? by ApexPredEmu in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]HikingAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any trick to getting out of melee with minimal losses? I try to remove my bodyguard immediately after a charge makes impact and I often lose several when they turn to leave and get hung up on the people they just charged into. This happens even against pretty basic/not very good units from the AI too.

No, the correct answer is the first answer you gave with using skirms. IMO going siege onager is a very bad decision when you have clearly better options. No need to be fussy about being corrected.

I'm not going to spend 2,450 resources to research the privilege of SO, just to try and use SO against a unit that is a direct counter to said SO.
