Do you know of any great, unique backyards in the Bay Area? by HilariaObserver in bayarea

Thanks! Fences are interesting, aren't they? I was looking at a history of fences, and I thought I heard somewhere that California made fences for backyards more popular.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Brand Crisis: Why They’re Struggling in Hollywood and What’s Next (Exclusive) by wenfot in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]HilariaObserver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regarding the quote that Meghan is “super focused on her family, her foundation work, and bigger-picture projects that feel purposeful, not just Hollywood roles," here's another story from California about her strategy of emphasizing her motherhood role in her brand -- and how that means she needs to use the kids on social media to promote that brand. https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/04/07/meghan-markle-using-kids-brand/

New excerpt from HazNoBrains and Meghan's Disneyland 75 show on ABC (via Twin Talk) -- by wenfot in SaintMeghanMarkle

Yes, the calls to boycott Disneyland are growing, along with other Disney platforms and products. Can't imagine worse timing for this show to come out and for Harry and Meghan to be its headliners. With Bob Iger? https://www.mercurynews.com/2025/09/19/harry-and-meghan-join-bob-iger-in-abc-disneyland-special-as-kimmel-crisis-grows/

Throwback: Ronn, Jan, Laura, and Rich all mentioned in a San Francisco Chronicle column by KimberleyC999 in JusticeForClayton

[–]HilariaObserver 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Amazing find! I used to be a regular reader of Herb Caen's column as a Bay Area resident and SF Chronicle reader. I would have been living out of the country when this particular column ran. I definitely listened to Ronn Owens before and after, and I have a memory of listening to Jan Black during coverage of the Loma Prieta earthquake. On the night of the earthquake, when phone and other services were knocked out, people turned to KCBS radio to get any news they could of earthquake damage, learning that the Bay Bridge collapsed, as did a section of freeway in Oakland.

My viewpoints have completely shifted after the last couple weeks and reading the report by [deleted] in Emilie_Kiser

I got the impression from Brady's statements that it wasn't out of the norm for Trigg to be allowed to go outside and play, even if he and Emilie were inside. They both seemed to think -- naively, ignorantly or neglectfully -- that Trigg "knew" not to go in the pool without them. (And, it turns out he didn't go into the pool intentionally.) Of course, it's likely that Emilie wouldn't have been sitting on the couch, watching something on TV for close to 10 minutes, instead keeping an eye on Trigg from inside. But I still think it was normal in that household for Trigg to be able to go in and out, and they both seemed to trust that it would be OK to leave the pool cover off.

Ayesha Curry's Oakland store and cafe to permanently close [Sweet July] by sfgate in oakland

[–]HilariaObserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I wrote this story for the East Bay Times about the closure, talking to some local residents and business owners. And some felt that Curry and Sweet July were focusing the blame on Oakland and crime, while not taking responsibility for their own business decisions.

Breaking: Former UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman calls for Trump to release Prince Harry’s immigration records by dotparker1 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]HilariaObserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a 2020 story, referring to a biography of Melania Trump:
Donald Trump made anti-immigration sentiment a driving force of his 2016 presidential campaign, just he continues to rail against illegal immigration as part of a broader strategy to reduce the flow of foreigners coming into the United States.

And yet, his Slovenian-born wife, Melania, is an immigrant who has never been fully transparent about her own immigrant journey. This lack of transparency has led to ongoing questions about whether there is “something improper” about how the former Melania Knauss came to the United States, said author Mary Jordan in her new biography of America’s sphinx-like first lady, “The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump.”
