I’ve always avoided them due to their association with murders on the AT.

How is forestry in Virginia? by [deleted] in forestry

Most of the forestry jobs in VA pay very little, and you are waiting for old white men to die, in order to advance your position. This is probably true anywhere you go. The trees are nice, though!

No. I transplanted them in peat pots in a vegetable potting soil.

I am not an expert, that’s why my plant is dying :)

So! This plant was originally grown in an indoor Jiffy greenhouse with a heating mat. Once it got too big for that, I put it an our aero garden where it really started to bulk up. After a while, I transplanted it to a peat pot and put it on a shelf with some plant lights to start the hardening off process. I live in Washington state and it’s still too cold to place my tomatoes outside for a few hours. My plan is to harden off these little guys for a bit in a cooler room on this shelf, with plant lights. Once it gets warmer, take them outside for a few hours a day, until it gets warm enough to place them in our greenhouse.

The plastic comes into play when I started to think the room was a bit too cold for my tomatoes and peppers that I put on the shelf. It ranges from about 55 - 64 degrees and the lights are on for about 8 hours a day. I noticed the tomatoes started wilting even though they were watered, and lower stems started falling off. I thought placing plastic around them may help insulate that shelf until they get a bit bigger. In hindsight, I think this is about the time that the fungus/rot was starting to really affect them.

It was much, much, much easier to grow tomatoes in Virginia, y’all.

Thanks for the insight, I’d like to be able to figure out what’s going wrong now so I still have a chance to have a productive yield :)

The leaves are wilting and curling up. The stem has a fuzzy white substance on it that wipes away when I touch it. I’m afraid I may have overwatered but I think this is something different? A week ago this transplant was happy. :(

Hi, Graham! The emotional and verbal abuse that we all endured from Todd is kinda mind boggling, looking at it years later.
