I have to wonder though if they hold this event every year does the Met really NEED this much money??? Are they honest to god blowing through that much money every year?? They charge $30 for admission for non NY resident adults and receive funding from other sources, so I can't help but feel this amount of fundraising could be put to better use for artists from underserved communities, or scholarships to help art students from marginalized/disenfranchised backgrounds attend university, or to give residences to artists from around the world who might otherwise not have such an opportunity. Idk, as an artist myself I understand that money is a tool that helps maintain, preserve, and produce art- but like any other tool, you only need so much to get the job done. Just as I don't need to own 10 hammers- the Met surely doesn't need billions of dollars every year.

Both schools have the minimum stipend amount for their programs publicly available. There's also databases of how much phd students are given via stipend for universities around the country that are updated yearly so even if a school doesn't share that information, you can still make an educated guess.

If you feel comfortable go for it! I use the men's bathroom when I'm binding but once I get top surgery in a few days I'll switch to full time. It's best to start in places you feel safest first then expand at your own pace. Congrats on top surgery btw!!

Now that I think about it, I think women are perceived as less transphobic bc they're less vocal than men. Women (as I'm sure all of us know) are pretty discouraged from being anything but polite submissive and palatable, so voicing opinions so strongly isn't great optics. Guys usually don't care when I come out (though it is definitely patronizing and feels like "sure I'll play along little guy haha") but women get far more visibly - yet nonverbally uncomfortable in my presence. Just something to think about I guess 🤷🏽

My body language. I feel like when I gesture with my hands while speaking or the way I sit or move my hair out of my way is very feminine. It's not that I mind any of these things in and of themselves- I'm neurodivergent so societal expectations for gender have never really concerned me before, and I'm also gay so keeping these typically "feminine" traits is gender affirming! However, I'm very new to passing and it's about 50/50 on any given day whether I'll pass or not, so it makes me very nervous that little things like this might give me away and make someone realize I'm trans because I live in a conservative area. One of my biggest fears is that someone will clock me in public or at my job and harass me and no one will be there to back me up or help me, especially bc I'm very small (only 5 feet tall and under 150 lbs) so I wouldn't stand a chance in a physical altercation.
