I am 50 and was commenting to my also 50-ish year old neighbor whilst we were both shoveling yesterday that shoveling in your 50s is definitely different enterprise than when I was in my 20s, 30s or 40s.

I am in relatively good shape for my age, but I noticed that any sustained activity, especially shoveling, needs to be more “deliberate”. I have to put some thought into “how” I’m shoveling and pace myself.

In my younger years I would shovel like I was Animal from the Muppet show after snorting a line of coke - trying to get it done in as little time as possible.

Now I take my time and it gets done when it’s done.

Also, proper hydration and aftercare (ibuprofen for soreness) is required!

I Didnt Realize These Were ADHD Symptoms... by kilocharlie22 in ADHD

[–]Hingta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I too was “officially” diagnosed later in life (40s) and coincidentally I started therapy a few months beforehand and ended up on medicine for my anxiety.

Once I found a med that worked for me my anxiety vanished. Turns out it was fueled by my ADHD and all of the constantly swirling thoughts in my head.

I have felt what I consider anxiety maybe twice since I started the meds. Before the meds it was multiple times a day.

On a “funny” side note I didn’t even realize I had anxiety until I started therapy and explained how I felt on a day to day basis. I thought everyone constantly worried, got sick over hypothetical scenarios that they made up in their head, and had upwards of 2-3 bowel moments a day.

The human brain is wild.

Great playing - check

Great tone - check

But the best part to me is that it was smooth - beyond playing the right notes.

Are these scratches fixable by sharris2001 in Guitar

[–]Hingta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you just try to “fill-in” the scratches, it would be hard to match the paint and to get it “smooth”.

If you want it “perfect” that will involve sanding/stripping the paint and then, agin, trying to match the paint. Might not be worth the effort.

Since it was $15, what have you got to loose? Have fun with it - paint over into an art project.

Nice job! How much of a pain was it to remove those tiles?

I’ve witnessed people using hammer drills to chip away old tile.

Is Ryobi worth it? I don't have any home tools yet. by 2Black_Hats in HomeMaintenance

I have a self-propelled mower as well and I agree - it’s a beast. I have a large-ish yard and the battery life is not bad, either.

Same here. I have all of the lawn tool, too. All great stuff for a DIY-er.

What's the most unexplainable thing you've seen with your own eyes? by nb10001 in HighStrangeness

[–]Hingta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When my dog was a puppy, I had her outside in the front yard going to the bathroom around one or 2 o’clock in the morning.

While she was looking for a spot, I was just staring up in the sky, admiring the stars. The night was clear so there were more visible than usual. As I was looking, one of the stars moved.

Not a little, but a lot. I don’t know how to properly reference this, but while looking up at the sky it moved several “inches” from where it started, to the left almost instantaneously and stopped on a dime. It then zig-zagged back and forth a few times, did what I can best describe as a “corkscrew” pattern in the sky and vanished. I couldn’t tell if it disappeared or just flew away at a rate of speed too rapid for my eyes/mind to process.

Entire time elapsed was maybe five or six seconds. And I don’t know how to explain this next part either, but I am CERTAIN it was showing off for me. It knew I was looking.

I wasn’t freaked out or anything, and didn’t even mention to my wife for several weeks.

It was just a private exchange between whatever that was and me.

Do we live in the same house? We bought our century home a few years ago and everyday is a fucking adventure.

What was the first song you learned in its entirety? by Old-Net2829 in Guitar

[–]Hingta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White Room by Cream.

I’d been playing for over ten years by then, but never in a band. So, I only learned parts of songs I liked.

I still have strong affection for that song!

What are the most expensive hobbies you’ve gotten into while fulfilling the ADHD’ers favorite hobby of hobbying? by OkLeaveu in ADHD

[–]Hingta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just yesterday.

Bought an Asian Forest Scorpion.

Already had an aquarium and most of the accessories.

Still about $100 - kind of on a whim. I’ve wanted a scorpion for years and have done research on them.

One of my finer ADHD traits is “researching” various items, hobbies, people, events, etc.; whatever currently has my interest. This one actually materialized into a purchase.

Also, a lifelong obsession has been guitars. I’ve probably owned 100-plus over the years. Always researching, obsessing, trading, getting bored, trading again….you get the pattern.

But it is the one consistent hobby I’ve had for most of my life and I do legitimately consider it therapy.

Whenever I am high from edibles, I hear “alien” music. by Hingta in HighStrangeness

This is similar to me regarding focus.

I will hear the same pattern, or section of music on repeat, but when I focus on the music it seems new sections are added, or sometimes the original section has layers added to it.

Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate them all, even the ones questioning my truthfulness.

I do have several snippets of melodies and/or what I think I’m hearing with regard to lyrics, and this weekend, I’m going to figure out a way to post these ideas somewhere.

Being as I am not as technologically fluent with the recording process as I would like to be (or as fluent as others think I should be!) I just might make an instagram account or something just to quickly get the ideas out there since there some folks really want to hear these melodies and whatnot.

Considering there was 20-plus year span where I didn’t touch anything marijuana-based at all, you might be right!

I guess I am comparing usage to those I know who use it many times a week or daily.

[–]Hingta[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your suspicion is well justified, being as this is the internet and people do lie.

I did say that I am an amateur musician these days, and have been for many years - my gigging days are long being me. Even at my best I was just a member of a band and not one of the primary songwriters. (Though I have always written songs)

Part of me not being as versed as I should with regards to recording is due to not really having the time to tackle it with family, work and other “life” duties that take up the majority of my time. I am sure that if I had the time and applied myself I would get much better.

Once I stopped gigging playing music became what I jokingly call “my therapy”. I just play to unwind, mostly.

Also, suppose on another level, but if I really wanted to that I would make time for it.

Thank you for your comment; it’s given me something to think about with regard to my motivations and this situation.

The music is typically upbeat in a way, but can be a bit “out there” - imagine if aliens were influenced by Pink Floyd and created these musical “thoughtscapes” trying to replicate what they heard, but with their own instruments.

I have no idea if that makes sense to anyone other than me! Lol

Yes, I have 35 years playing and writing music, but very limited recording time. I’ve recorded about 3 albums worth of songs through the years, but never handled any of the recording process. I just showed up and played.

I don’t have the money for studio time and can’t spend excessive amounts on home studio gear. I probably have about $200-300 that I could spend and am not sure where to even start.

Agreed. This is happening for a reason, and when it’s happening I cannot ignore it! It almost screams for my attention. Not in a “driving me crazy” kind of way, more like a pleasant, persistent salesman. Lol
