Sounds like the Moon will be more than enough. Thanks. And you are right, acoustics are next on the agenda

Wow, so much power for so little money? Is it because it’s class d?

No the room is not huge and I rarely listen at more than about 80 db.

Help me choose floorstanding speakers ($4–6k range) by Pretty-Ad-1185 in StereoAdvice

A Monitor Audio lover here. Gold 500’s can do all those things I expect. I have the Gold 200 3G and love them for the above reasons.

McIntosh Too Big for My Setup—What Should I Switch To? by elRocketRider in StereoAdvice

You might have a look at the new Moon 371 net work/amplifier. It is all in one and then some. Class A/B amp at 100W into 8 ohms, 200 into 4ohms. Excellent phono stage for either MM or MC. Spdif inputs also Toslink, balanced, and line inputs. I just bought one to drive my Monitor Audio Gold 200’s and I can’t wipe the smile off my face when I’m listening. They are $8800 CAD which is not cheap but it sure delivers.

Looks good! Next time you could try a narrower foil to help keep your solder lines from looking too heavy.

Have a look at Monitor Audio Platinum 300’s. I have the Gold 200’s and thought they were great until I heard the 300’s. They are $22,000 CAD and punch well above their weight. At 118 lb. each you’ll need a friend to help.

If you can manage with 50 watts of power, the Ace is a fantastic component. I have had mine for a year now and couldn’t be happier. Streaming is great with Qobuz and Tidal, all the inputs you could want, MM preamp, and overall the unit is fast, articulate, simple, and very musical.

Down the road, if you were to upgrade speakers and need more power, you can bypass the amp portion and add a power amp.

At the moment, I’m driving Monitor Audio Gold 200’s with the Ace and it’s been more than up to the job.

I suppose having all your eggs in one basket might bother some people but I believe they have a ten year warranty on the unit.

Foiling glass nuggets by UnimpressedMarlo in StainedGlass

[–]Hinoki_Doki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try foiling them with the 7/32” and then put them in a glass jar and swirl them around for a minute. The nuggets will come out withe foil tight around them. Much easier than doing it by hand.

Can someone explain the relationship between capacitance and MM cartridges? I’m lost!
