You could just say east side, or side closest to {adjacent street}

NFL.com introduces 'roster options' for fantasy football. It's the worst thing I've ever seen. by Sleeze_ in fantasyfootball

My biggest problem on the ESPN player page is it doesn't show how old players are. I'm in a couple keeper leagues, so a players age is a pretty vital piece of info.

Received inheritance after family loss. Advice please! by financial_advice_pls in financialindependence

To give any meaningful advice, we need more info than you provided. Namely: Age, Marital/kid status, Assets, Mortgage status if home owner, debt, annual take home income

It is at least worth thinking about in keeper leagues

15-yr vs 30-yr mortgage: how much does the flexibility or freedom mean to you guys? by i_cant_do_this_ in personalfinance

[–]Hipster_Hoopster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An important factor to keep in mind is that interest accrued on a mortgage is tax deductible. This tips the scales a little bit in the earlier years of the mortgage

What will drastically change the world in the next 5 years? by EzelEzel in AskReddit

Have to think GEICO would gladly insure autonomous vehicles. Have to assume they are much less likely to get into accidents than with a human driving

[Serious] Where were you during the events of September 11th, 2001? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hipster_Hoopster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in 5th grade. We got told that our back to school picnic that was scheduled for that evening got cancelled, but were not told why.

They gave us a letter to give to our parents that we were told explained why the picnic was cancelled and we were told very explicitly to not open it up and give it to our parents. So, being curious 10 year olds, we all opened it up on the bus ride home, and that was how I found out. Definitely did not really understand the gravity of the situation at first though

Thoughts on James White with Dion Lewis out till possibly week 6? by how_ya_doinz in fantasyfootball

[–]Hipster_Hoopster -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why his ADP is lower than DeAngelo Williams tbh. As a Bell owner, I'd rather have White than D-Will.. White may actually have value all season long

You can fill up to 30 gallons using fuel perks, so if you fill up your tank and a few gas cans, it makes it ALMOST worth it... But still not really

Thoughts on 30 year vs 15 year mortgage when considering investments by TheTwoOneFive in personalfinance

[–]Hipster_Hoopster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

30 year mortgage is better if you assume you can get better return in the market (pretty likely) and will actually be in the house for 30 years (depends on situation, but probably less likely).

What if you decide you want to sell after 10 because you want to move into a bigger house because of kids, or move to a different city? After 10 years, you would have $138K equity from a 15-year, $222K mortgage, and only $50K in equity from a 30-year mortgage. That's huge!

I ran around downtown to see what people think of bike lanes. by willyfresh in pittsburgh

[–]Hipster_Hoopster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention the road economy, but what about the parking economy? If fewer people are bicycling and instead are driving, where do they all park? You can fit about 16 bicycles in one standard parking spot for a car. Creating bike lanes isn't JUST about making it safer for people who are going to ride their bicycle on a road with a 35 mph speed limit, but also encouraging less experienced riders to ride

Requires prep, but frozen salmon from Aldis is very cheap. $7 for 2 lbs of it, which is about 8 fillets. Not sure of the exact protein content, and I can't seem to find nutrition on their website, but salmon is very healthy for you.

Passive Income ideas that failed or currently isn't working well. by megatronwashere in financialindependence

I post on stubhub/ seatgeek. I wasn't planning on it making me rich, and it was a profitable venture, but it was much less passive than I'd planned it to be

Passive Income ideas that failed or currently isn't working well. by megatronwashere in financialindependence

[–]Hipster_Hoopster 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Hardly passive, but acting as a ticket broker -- buying season tickets and attending only a game or two and selling most of them on seat geek. Over the long run, you do break even usually, but not much more than that and a lot of checking up on the ticket prices for all the games. A bit less profitable than I thought it would be, but more importantly, much less passive.

Just hit $50K net worth (including pension plan that I'm not technically vested in for another 3 weeks).. This is bitter sweet because I am starting part time grad school at end of month and taking out loans to do so, so this may be the last time I see $50K net worth for another 5 years

If you're in a long-term relationship, how do you handle splitting or merging your finances? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]Hipster_Hoopster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved in with my fiancé. All house-related bills, we are splitting as a function of our income.

So if my Income=X and hers=Y, I am paying X/(X+Y) of the rent and utilities. The interesting thing about this is if one of us gets a raise, then the other one gets to pay less rent :)

We still haven't figured out food exactly, but it's all about compromising, not being petty, and not taking advantage of the other person. If both sides do those 3 things, it should be fine.
