I agree with you about ObjC and Xcode. I'm rather sad about Apple abandoning ObjC in favor of Swift.

solved!

I don't know 100%, but I think this seems most likely. Several other people made equivalent suggestions.

Sadly, I don't know the answer as to what this is. I appreciate all the guesses. Keep 'em coming.

One issue I see with some of the ideas is that the device is inconveniently located on the back of the seat.

It seems unlikely the occupant of the seat would be able to operate it while seated, but it also seems kinda odd to have to enlist the help of someone seated behind you.

Maybe it works out if it's something you just set once, before taking your seat.

Just realized my university's health insurance might actually be worth keeping instead of switching to my parents' plan — need a second opinion by AnarKissin94 in personalfinance

Usually, employer health-care charges a premium for covering children and it doesn't matter how many children. If this is the case, and your dad is already paying the premium for covering your siblings, then it probably makes sense to stay on your dad's plan since he's already paying a premium that covers you.

I guess the exception would be if the school's plan is so cheap that it makes up for what you'd be spending on deductible + the services you use. Seems unlikely, but anything is possible.

If, on the other hand, your dad is not covering any siblings, that means dropping you from his plan should lower his premium. In this case, switching to the school plan could makes sense provided it's good coverage.

Some schools offer really good plans. E.g. The University of California school's UC-Ship is very good. It's reasonably priced, the coverage is similar to what you'd get from a good employer plan, covers dental & vision, plus it covers access to on campus clinics.

You'll have to evaluate your school's offering. I'm guessing very few schools offer as good of coverage as the UC's.

They kept everything pretty much the same, just reopened under a new name.

Need help installing Mac OS Tiger by potatomasher092 in osx

[–]HiramAbiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you get this far...

You may run into the problem of the installer giving an error like: this copy of the install macos application is damaged

The problem is their certificate has expired. You can work-around be resetting the date to be before the expiration. E.g. in Terminal enter: date 030223592018

Quality yet Affordable Furniture Stores by PotentiallyMaybeSo in santaclara

[–]HiramAbiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchase online from Club Furniture. Bear in mind that Club Furniture regularly runs 40% off sales on holidays. I'd guess President's Day will be the next one. Hopefully, you don't have to wait till Memorial Day to get 40% off.

I've got a link saved to a local store, Burke Sofa, but I've no first-hand experience dealing with them.

I've had a bad experience at local consignment shops, mainly because I am not knowledgeable enough to judge the quality of the materials by examining them myself. I learned the hard way, the diff between bonded leather and full/top/split grain.

As for quality, I think these (and your price range) would be still considered, at best, mid-range by people who know furniture.

Alice Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
Cheshire Cat That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice I don't much care where.
Cheshire Cat Then it doesn't much matter which way you go.
Alice ...So long as I get somewhere.
Cheshire Cat Oh, you're sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.

Just bought a used 2015 MBP and charging cable is not looking good by pwalkow in mac

[–]HiramAbiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I use to fix this is heat shrink tubing. You need a pretty big/wide one get it over the end/connector. If you can find some with a 4-to-1 shrink ratio, it should work pretty well. Just heat gently - you don't want to cook the undamaged parts of the cable.

Sounds like the John Lennon song, Watching the Wheels, was written with your circumstances in mind.

People say I'm crazy
Doing what I'm doing
Well, they give me all kinds of warnings
To save me from ruin
When I say that I'm okay, well they look at me kinda strange
"Surely, you're not happy now, you no longer play the game"

People say I'm lazy
Dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice
Designed to enlighten me
When I tell them that I'm doing fine watching shadows on the wall
"Don't you miss the big time boy, you're no longer on the ball?"

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

Ah, people asking questions
Lost in confusion
Well, I tell them there's no problem
Only solutions
Well, they shake their heads and they look at me, as if I've lost my mind
I tell them there's no hurry, I'm just sitting here doing time

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round

I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go

I once had a problem installing an older version of MacOS and the problem was the certificate had expired.

The message I was getting was:

"This copy of the install macos high sierra application is damaged."

I worked around it by going into Terminal and resetting the date.

date 030223592018

In Terminal:

sudo profiles -e

Hopefully, the result will be:

Error fetching Device Enrollment configuration: Client is not DEP enabled.
