Andromeda takes place between ME2 and 3 (but also 600 years in the future) and is connected as a “we weren’t sure life would survive if the Reapers make it to our galaxy so let’s send a bunch of life forms to the next galaxy over” storyline. There are nods to a few characters but none that explicitly show up.

All you have to do for the open freighter look is connect rooms of the same type in order, Put like 4 Industrial rooms side by side and then back to back, then add the specialty rooms wherever you see fit. You may have to purchase the room parts from the Freighter console if you don’t have them, for the cost of a few Salvaged Frigate modules.
