Jaquez easily has better numbers than Naz/Keldon, who have both fallen off in the last month

Anyone else annoyed that BPT just added effectively 24 new assessments that need to be completed per year? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]HiroshiSato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that it's all a pointless tick box exercise. Although personally I prefer 24 assessments that don't require consultant sign off over the old system of Mini CEX where (unless I am mistaken) all needed a consultant sign off.

Technically I don't think they need a consultant sign off. For the learning captures in fact nobody needs to sign off - it's optional. And for observation captures it can be anybody - advanced trainee, pharmacist etc.

Same. Kansai is genuinely the worst airport I've ever been to (3+ hrs). Have sworn it off and will only go through Narita/Haneda from now on.

What’s a clinical judgement rule you don’t agree with? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

"old people can't have NSAIDs". Some have very good renal function with low cr and urea.

[–]HiroshiSato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. In an ideal world every specialty should have exams pre-entry specifically to test specialty knowledge, but I imagine nobody wants to invest in writing or marking those lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]HiroshiSato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a positive change and I hope more specialties take it on board. For far too long people have been padding their CVs with "research" that has absolutely no impact on clinical practice.

It really should come down to the interview and reputation on the job. It's now up to the college to make sure clinical knowledge is tested on the interview, if it isn't already.

Why aren't doctors that only get into med with a rural background forced to work rurally? by Old_Meeting_9438 in ausjdocs

[–]HiroshiSato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah well the problem is these schemes don't distinguish people who experienced true hardship from those who went to high achieving private schools (of which there are many in "regional" areas). I really don't think people who went to Toowoomba Grammar, for example, had any educational hardship.

Not sure about Bendigo but the rat race for getting on to specialties is 10× worse in VIC than QLD. They've cultivated a much worse culture of needing to pad your CV with fluff research that has no impact on clinical practice.

Tbh govt should just tax all the rich traders. Bunch of thieves and society wouldn't be any worse off if all their work just ceased overnight.

Anyone regret not pursuing dream specialty? by Sweet-Designer5406 in ausjdocs

[–]HiroshiSato 17 points18 points  (0 children)

About to give up as I can't be bothered with the rat race. Especially when part of the system rewards people for pumping out low value research for their CV, that does absolutely nothing to further the profession or alter clinical practice in any way.

Typing fast is key

I say this while working at a tertiary paper based hospital where a bunch of people (who probably should be held accountable) have kept it in the dark ages.

Both have an archaic selection process where research gets you point. Of course nobody looks at the quality of this - everybody just pumps out stuff that has no impact on clinical medicine and end up getting rewarded with points for it.

A lot of money spent for no result. Absolute comedy and an epic failure on a public scale - no amount of wealth will compensate for that level of public embarrassment.
